One may, with luck, also be found in Brewer's Beer Bootlegging, west of the Sunset Sarsasparilla Headquarters. It is behind a locked door, inside a locked gun cabinet, though there is a key in the same area. Keep in mind though that the loot in the gun cabinet is randomly generated, so there are no guarantees.

Or you'll have to follow the Brotherhood of Steel storyline and they'll get you one eventually along with Power Armor training.

Edit: I haven't tried this but if you have the Mister Sandman perk and can catch a brotherhood member sleeping in hidden valley you could probably kill them without getting everyone against you and loot a rifle off their body.

Well, if you're good with the NCR you should be able to ride the monorail from Camp McCarran, I know that's not the answer you're looking for but it is at least an option

I don't know if riding the monorail will unlock anything... I just meant that's a way to get onto the strip

apparently entering gomorrah is what locked the strip for me, maybe because I kept my silenced pistol on me? In any event opening the gate from the Lucky 38/Gomorrah side unlocked it so I'll try the monorail trick on my save so I don't lose as much progress, hopefully.

I like how I'm encountering literally every bug in the game so far

Aside from the normal random crashing, I've only encountered one random quest glitch, re: the Ft. McCaran Monorail quest.

I listened to the conversation in the radio tower, killed the traitor, and went to the monorail station immediately to defuse the bomb. Everytime I approach the monorail it departs and then blows up. I reloaded several times and it kept departing and blowing up everytime I approached it. Somehow I was able to jump on the guard rails on the outside, and walk inside the tram. I disarmed the bomb, got the message the bomb has been disarmed, exited the monorail, and then it *still* blew up.

Soooo I'm about 85 hours into this game, done with most of the sidequests but I still have a lot of exploring to find everything on the map and quite a few of the main missions left. Even though the random glitches/bugs are pretty bad and I've encountered a lot of them, I definitely really like this game a lot. I would definitely say that if Obsidian/Bethesda gets everything patched this game is almost (like 90%) as good as Fallout 3, if not just as good. But that's kinda a big if...

Quick question also, I can't tell if this is due to shitty programming or just figuring out strategy: I started a melee character and at level 5 I have 50 melee and 60 sneak. I know how to sneak properly by creeping slowly and not having my light on. I get better kills with assault rifles when I have all of 9 points in guns than I do with my knife or cleaver. What the fuck? It takes me forever to get kills with fully repaired melee weapons but I can kill something far quicker with a gun.

Am I missing something here or did they just do a shitty job of designing melee unless I have a badass unique weapon?

I really don't know about that, for quite some time I was rocking faces with a rebar club on my first character... I like unarmed a lot more than melee in New Vegas though.

oh yeah, I just raped the hell out of Dead Wind Cave with the Gobi, now I'm tracking down all the named weapons in the game. Vance's 9mm SMG is fucking awesome, although I think my favorite is probably the named Laser Rifle or Gauss Rifle. Too bad there isn't a named plasma pistol, i have like fucking 2k energy cells

Edit: Nevermind, for whatever reason it won't even let me have the option to accept Caesar's first task. Guess I have to see benny/Mr house first or something. I've mostly just neglected the main quest for a while.

There isn't a plasma pistol, but it's still a good idea to stockpile energy cells since there is unique laser pistol that uses 15 energy cells per shot.

yea the Pew Pew, I got it a while ago. It has nice DPS but as far as SEC energy weapons go I much prefer the Plasma Defender since the 2 shot clip is annoying unless you always reload in VATS or have Rapid Reload (which I don't). Still, none of the energy pistols really hold a candle to the AER14 and Q-35, although I'd probably change my tune if I had an alien blaster.

Speaking of Rapid Reload, somehow I missed out on a lot of the good perks from not having the proper pre-req skills/SPECIAL, so in the end I just pumped my END up by 2 so I could get 2 extra implants. Maybe they'll add in a way to get extra perks in DLC or something

Playing for several hours, doing companion quests and other random shit. "Hey, that was fun, but I should go to the strip and get on with the story quest."
Zone into the area I need to go to, NCR MP's attack me for no reason. I knew that I was at max rep for them, since a lot of the random shit I just did were NCR quests.
Told my companions to wait, no dice. Switched from power armour to standard shit on myself and companion, didn't work either. Finally decide to check my rep tab, half of the factions have dissappeared from it, and show as neutral on the world map. Only have Primm, Freeside, Novac and all those shitty random towns left. BoS, legion, NCR, Khans and powder gangers all gone. Tried consolecommands, didn't seem to work, so raged about the loss of 45hrs of playtime and went to beat the shit out of Camp McCarran with some brass knuckles. After that, I remembered you had to target yourself for certain consolecommands, and that did the trick.
Phew.

Really thought people were exaggerating about the bugs up until this. So glad I'm playing on PC so I can actually fix some things with console.
