HP Regen is crap unless you play Hardcore.
Get Intelligence, Agility, Strength (for gun handling), Perception (affects your accuracy, iirc), Endurance and DMG threshold.

No it's great that you can't get 100 in everything like FO3, I just wish they had really made it so you don't have to get lockpick, speech, and science as high as possible as the only way to accomplish most things
I wonder how much you CAN get starting with 10 int and getting tag/educated/comprehension (or at least I think that's the one that gives extra points from skill books, might be retention... can't remember)
It's Comprehension (level 4, requires 4 int), gives you 4 pts from skill books, of which there are 4 for almost every book (i think 1 is in the Abandoned BoS Bunker, which is currently glitched shut on consoles), so +16 to each skill from books. You also get Educated (2 extra skill pts per level) at level 4, so you'd have to take Educated at 4 to maximize it and Comprehension at level 6 or so. Tag! is level 16.
Ideally you'd want to make sure your END is at least 7 (or 4/5, and then bump it up 2 or 3 points with Intense Training) so you can get extra SPECIAL points with Implants since those increase your skills too. You can actually take 10 ranks in Intense training, so if the goal is to max skills you could probably do it via SPECIAL increases at the expense of other perks.
ok so, there's 13 skills with 100 points each, so you need 1300 skill points total.
With 10 INT you get 10+(0.5 * INT) = 15 per level, plus another 2 points per level from Educated starting at level 4, which would give you 504. 4 tag skills gives you another 60 points, and 16 points per set of skill books would give you another 208. That's 766, so the rest have to come from the base values (determine via SPECIAL and Luck bonuses) and SPECIAL bonuses from Intense Training and Implants but I don't think that's going to add up to the difference of 534 (average of 41 per skill). So I don't think it's possible.
Oh well, it's not like you'd need 100 in all weapon types anyway. You can get everything that matters to 100 though.
yeah, you don't really need to get over 70 or 75 medicine for challenges unless you have trouble staying alive, and for Repair you only need to get up to 60 and you get plenty of magazines to make up the difference for the few challenges you need that for. Oh, well I guess Repair/Survival are used for crafting stuff but I don't really craft much.
Speaking of crafting I wonder if they plan on adding any of the crafted weapons later. I miss my dart gun and railway rifle![]()
Eh... depending on your style, I guess (since it'd fit right into mine) since I honestly don't think most of the perks in the game are all that useful.
I agree the perks aren't particularly useful, aside from the one that gives you 20 AP when you kill something and adds 5% to your crit rate. most of the perks I ended up choosing were related to skill points/SPECIAL, or radiation resistance/auto-lowering
I, too, have thoroughly enjoyed hearing the different voice actors. The voice acting is one department where New Vegas definitely blows Fallout 3 out of the water. I mean, Fallout 3's voice acting was ok, but it seemed like it was quite literally the same 6-8 people doing the voices for everyone in the game, where as New Vegas seems to really have a diverse cast. I noticed the manual did not have a list of voice actors, but from what I have played I have narrowed down the following:
Mr. New Vegas = Wayne Newton
Doc Mitchell = Michael Hogan
Mr. House = Rene Auberjonis (aka motherfuckin ODO!)
Marcus = Michael Dorn
Chief Hanlon = Kris Kristofferson
Raul = Danny Trejo
Benny = Matthew Perry (yes, Chandler from Friends)
Yes Man = Dave Foley
Also, apparently Rob Cordry and Felicia Day voice characters, but either I haven't found them or I never noticed. Also, I have a suspicion that Boone is voiced by Will Friedle, the guy that was in Boy Meets World and voiced Batman in Batman Beyond.
EDIT: Well I actually checked IMDB instead, turns out Boone was voiced by James Marsden of Cyclops fame, oh well.
If anything, I thought it was done way better than Fallout 3. The only 2 weapons locked behind a very hard lock iirc are the Gobi sniper and Pulse gun, and you only need 72 skill to pick a very hard lock (magazine + absinthe + mentats + head gear). There's only a handful of terminals in the game, and none of them are required for a special item as far as I know. Most of the terminals are used to unlock a door, in which case you can almost always use lockpick instead. Speech is even easier to jack up than lockpick, you can get +40 speech alone from naughty nightwear, party time mentats, and a magazine. The only 100 speech challenges I've seen are the endgame ones, and you only need 80 skill for a massive majority of speech challenges, so you only need to bring it up to 40 to pass most challenges.
To get his quest you have to talk to three NPC's while Raul is with you. After talking to each one he will talk to you and reveal a little about his past. The NPC's are Corporal Sterling in Camp McCarran or Camp Forlone Hope, Loyal in Nellis Air Force Base, and Ranger Andy in Novac. Apparently the only time you can get the correct dialogue with Ranger Andy is the very first time you speak to him. So if you recruited Raul after you've talked to Andy, like I did, you're fucked. I've gone over all dialogue tree's with Andy and nothing seems to get Raul to speak up.
I also found another glitch where NCR NPC's will fire at ED-E unprovoked. I've had it happen twice to me, once in the NCR HQ on the Strip and once in the Hoover Dam. ED-E won't fire back, but the other NPC with me will which kills my rep. with them. At least if I reload it doesn't seem happen again in that area.
Or... having to use guides to know about all the gear and magazines and shit you CAN farm up to pass all these checks. Tedious shit.
Personally, I like to play games without a guide strapped to me so I end up putting in somewhere near the required point values, especially playing on hardcore with low str, etc etc
eh, I know what you mean but when I play games like this I like to do/get everything which is nearly impossible in a game this big without a guide. I will say that just like FO3 and Oblivion, the in-game quest guide is pretty great about telling you where to go, although it's not always clear where and how to trigger most quests.
finally done, sided with the NCR, that was an EPIC fucking final fight. All in all took me 100 hours and I did just about every quest my alignment would allow, saved 680 times too lol
besides the glitches this was definitely an amazing game
edit: oh yeah I still have a shitloads of achievements left too, maybe some day
ok never mind I take that back, fucking game froze during the epilogue
