Interesting. Looks like New Vegas has a real, active, "modern" civilization going on, and the inclusion of a NCR ranger (I assume it's a ranger, NCR flag plus military looks) onlooker makes me think major Enclave operation, or somthing of the sort.

@Atreides: I hope Alpha Protocol isn't destroyed. It looked like it was a fantastic game as-is, but all the things Sega said they'd change worries the hell out of me. I already got a refund on steam. >_>

Alpha protocol is still coming out in the summer, they've been working on both titles side by side.

    Development history

Fallout: New Vegas was announced on April 20, 2009 at Bethesda's London showcase. As of December 2009, no official information about the project has been released, aside from the development team, which includes J.E. Sawyer as project director and lead designer and Chris Avellone as senior designer. The first official information will be released in the February 2010 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine. A cinematic trailer has also been released.

    Setting

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic, retro-futurist Las Vegas following the Great War between the US, China and other countries, a conventional and nuclear war that occurred on October 23, 2077 and lasted less than two hours despite causing immense damage and destruction. Before the Great War were the Resource Wars, during which the United Nations disbanded, a plague rendered the United States paranoid, and Canada was annexed.

    Story

The game will take place in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, which was previously only mentioned in the first Fallout (Tycho talked about it). The New California Republic will play a major part in the story. The story will not be related in any way to the one in Fallout 3.

    Gameplay

The gameplay system will likely be similar to the Fallout 3 gameplay, although some changes are likely to be made (e.g. Damage Threshold might make a return).

    Fallout: New Vegas developers

Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, a company founded by Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone, two of the makers of Fallout 2 (originally at Black Isle Studios). The project is led by J.E. Sawyer, one of the lead designers of Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 project by Black Isle Studios. John R. Gonzalez is the lead creative designer, while Obsidian founder Chris Avellone, who worked on Fallout 2 and Van Buren is a senior designer. Joe Sanabria is the lead artist.

Very much want! Game is going to be amazing if it is anywhere near as good as Fallout 3. Hopefully they can actually port the game properly to the ps3 this time, as the staggering amount of crashes once the DLC was added was astounding.

It's not exactly like the PC version was error free, heh. I got lucky with my first "persistent" playthrough, but subsequent games were crash-prone and made the game damn near unplayable.

Was the GOTY version of Fallout 3 any better as far as bugs go? I started playing on the PC, was thinking about picking up the GOTY version for the PS3 and starting over.

Fallout 3 for PS3 is by far the buggiest and crash-prone of the three platforms, and it just gets worse once you enter DLC territory on it. It also has the most sporadic frame-rate.

I honestly think most of the lockups were due to the fact by the time I got the GOTY, my save files were like 12 MB each....

I knew the original version was massively bugged, but I I was hoping that they cleaned it up for the GOTY version. Guess not.

For the PS3, GOTY version is essentially Fallout 3 vanilla, but the disc includes the 5 DLC packs which automatically get dumped to your hard drive along with the rest of the disc during the first boot up.

Least you were allowed to play the game as it streamed the 6.7gb of data to your hard drive, although it meant for some extended loading periods during that one-time affair.

That's what I meant by crashes. I can't go two hours of gameplay without a lock-up.

All my lock-ups have been pretty steady (outside of DLC zones where I can barely play 30min without a crash) when my save file was 2mb, right up to its current state, which is 11mb.

I don't know how Sony let the game slide through a second time for a retail release (the GOTY edition) knowing it's been virtually untouched from the original release as far as bugs go.
