Call up the hospital, and ask for a director on duty. Explain to him/her the situation.... inform them you went to a sister hospital, and got better service, less wait time, and a less expensive bill. See if they wave it...

If not, PRESS. New stations do alot of "undercover investigations" now..... inform them that you actually got to see a doctor, for far less than the other hospital wanted. Let them find out how 2 hospitals operating under the same mother company can charge 2 completely different prices, and the more expensive one not even rendering any services.

Complain to the hospital directly and get the bill waived, if not, threaten to contact the local news. The news channels LOVE news stories like this, and if you're a college student, just say how you're a poor college student and you can't afford this. Audiences will lap that shit up.

I went to the local ER one day for some antibiotics to clear up an infected cut on my leg, after 4hrs of not seeing the doctor I told them I had to go and get to work and would just come back later, they told me that since I haven't seen the Doc yet I didn't have to pay anything, even though I was already in a room.
I don't know if that's just the hospital being cool, because they cover the full bill every time I go there, or if that's what they are supposed to do, either way, fuck them fuck that

edit: Also, if the hopsital wants to be dicks, they can just alert the credit bureau's you are unwilling to pay and your credit score may take a hit.

But don't screw up your credit over it, because every time you see that "Delinquent Account" thing on your credit report you're going to get pissed off all over again. I tried this with a bullshit parking ticket, and it only made things worse. The man always wins.

Long story short a few weeks ago I was extremely sick. Turns out I had viral bronchitis. So I went to the local hospital and filled out the paperwork and got my patient ID bracelet. I then waited three hours for them to see me. After I had been there the three hours, without being seen I asked them to check to see when I could be seen. They spoke to the head nurse and she said at least another two to three hours. Bear in mind the entire time they were sending in patients with physical injuries(sprained ankles etc) that were treated and released within an hour. Which is fine, I understand those are simple injuries that require simply fixes.

So I left and went to a different hospital that was able to get me into the ER in about an hour. They proceeded to give me a chest x-ray and a breathing treatment. And I'm out within two hours.

Fast forward to this week I get a bill from the hospital that helped me for a total of 25.00 dollars. I then get a bill from the hospital that was too busy to help me for a total of 100.00 dollars. I have no fucking intention of paying this bill because they didn't help me at all. So should I be calling their accounting department or administration? Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Brill, the hospital you went to first, was it a state or city owned?

The man always wins if you don't play his game. This is why you make formal complaints and go through the beauracratic hoops involved in contesting unjust charges. Simply folding your arms and shaking your head is only going to get you a call from a collection agency.

I am currently taking a class on Medical Billing and the suggestion I have for you is this;

Call the hospital and asked to be sent to the billing department. Some have billers on site and some have them off-site. If they use an off-site biller ask for the number to them. Speaking to someone to try and figure out what you were charged for is the best thing you can do. Going directly to the people who make the bill is also a good way to go. It could have simply been a data entry error.
