I would definitely notice this. It wouldn't be a deal breaker, but it wouldn't help, either.

It comes down to attention to detail. At the end of the day, I want staff who notice the little things.

    I go in counter clockwise.

The belt, imo, shouldn't be too long. More than 6 inches of extra belt I personally don't like

I think Tech people get away with dressing however they want, hell some wear their PJs to work.

My brother in law wears these to work

I always thought the direction of the belt was up to your handed-ness, left vs. right.

The belt: start from the right side. Also, the watch on the left (men).

I work in a clean lab, so really what I'm wearing is obscured by labcoat and other protective junk.

I like playing dress up and sometimes will, but usually I get made fun of in the lab.

Another tip, try to make your suits last you longer by not taking them to the dry cleaner so often...

Having a SteamBuddy (or something similar) to take out wrinkles can be a big help, too.

Don't really think it's that important which hand the watch is on, depends more on if you're left or right handed I think.

No joke you should see the people at my work. I work in a large corporate environment with a lot of employees and it is a very tech based environment. I am in cube city as I call it. However I rarely see anyone in button down shirts and ties or slacks or dress shoes or anything like that. Most people wear jeans and t-shirts and athletic shoes or regular walkin around shoes. I personally stick to skate shoes as they are comfortable for me. It is a strange environment indeed.

I do like to wear hawaiian shirts a lot and have quite a few at home so i will wear them to work and I get compliments all day when I do.

I guess my main point is that it is really important to be observant of everyone around you and use your co-workers as a gauge for how to dress on a day to day basis.

This has no bearing on how you dress if you are new to a job or going to an interview.

I'm a righty, watch is on my left. Every lefty I know has it on their right. It feels uncomfortable to write with a watch on that same hand

I simply CANNOT believe I forgot to mention this earlier:

Burn every single pair of pleated pants you own.

Ladies, back me up on this?

Yeah, exactly, I'm left-handed... people usually comment on why I have my watch on the wrong hand.

I'm a chemistry student, most of my work days I'm stuck in a rutty lab with a (not so) white lab coat and goggles on...

I guess I am weird because when I wear a watch (which is rare lately) I wear it on the right hand even though I am right handed. Often times I will take it off if I have to write a lot and then put it back on. It just feels weird on my left hand though.

Edit: yeah FUCK pleated pants. I hate pleats they are uncomfortable and retarded looking.

The explanation I got for the handed-ness of watch placement is so you could see it while you wrote. I'm right-handed and have worn watches on either hand over the years, when I did, but now with a cell phone as my watch, meh, last time I wore a watch it was on the right hand, dunno.

If you're taking some kinda test where cell phones are not allowed, it would make sense to wear one. Sometimes cell phones aren't allowed in certain work environments like call centers. A good looking watch can add moar visual appeal :<

    I still disagree.
What's important for the watch though is that the watch face should be worn facing out.
