    Death Blossom

    I had a sky run on Saturday, wherein we fought Byakko. Just playing around since I was the melee party Haste whore, I equipped my Joyeuse to get some TP with my party before going up to fight him. As soon as he was popped, I ran in to unleash a 300% TP Death Blossom on him, then retreated to the back line and proceeded with my usual Red Mage duties for the rest of the battle. It took almost no effort or coordination to ask our Bard to cast Elegy after, and he was able to land it for full duration. As easy as sky gods already are, this obviously isn't anything earth-shattering, but considering how easy it is to do, I can see how this could have some serious potential as a useful tool. I hadn't had time to pick up the new Enspells yet, so considering magic resistance could be lowered even more makes this even more appealing. Has anyone else tried this on anything?

    My LS was actually joking about using Death Blossom on our next Byakko because 2 red mages and 2 bards couldn't get Slow or Elegy to land at all over the entire duration of the fight. If you are serious that Death Blossom made Elegy stick for full duration we may actually do it.

    We also wondered if it had something to do with SE's retarded elemental resistance fuckup. Our red mages even tried full skill gear Slow and it didn't stick. I guess it's time to Darkness with Death Blossom...

    Death Blossom could be used well in this fashion. It could be used to open a relatively short fight. However, if you do plan on fighting a mob for more than 10 minutes (ie. Cerb/Khim/Wyrms/Etc.) this is probably going to be more trouble than what it's worth unless you want to have a RDM that sits with an Opo Necklace on and spams sleep pots the entire fight.

    Generally if the fight is quick enough for you to finish it before the Death Blossom effect to wear off, it's not worth putting the effect on in the first place lol.

    Seems like a nice cute potential fight opener. You have to weigh the risk of the RDM getting owned by some retarded AoE when he runs in for the possible benefit of the WS proc. It was my understanding that the Magic Evasion Down effect wasn't a 100% proc, or is it just the duration that varies with TP?

    I've never seen Magic Evasion Down not land. However, it only lasted about 10-15 seconds on gods.

    I finally got around to unlocking it last night. No mob ever lasted long enough to display the 'wears off' message. I wasn't enfeebling or nuking so I had no idea if it was 100% or not.

    Unfortunately most Gravitation Weapon Skills really suck. If you can find a Blue Mage/Thief with a decent Vertical Cleave setup it would rock though.

    Hah, I actually realized Death Blossom was Distortion after I posted this and went back to thinking SAM solo Darkness with a RDM to just use it.

    Since this really was a joke on my LS, our LS red mage said Death Blossom would miss on Byakko. I told him RDM/THF.

    First hit should be 95% accurate on anything though right? Or is that just Square-Enix' love of Samurai?

    I'm pretty sure this same guy has had Death Blossom miss entirely on weaker things before. Also I know single-hit WS have large accuracy bonuses, but my SAM missed 2 in a row on Suzaku that same fateful no-slow Byakko night. =(

    Is he WSing in his usual mage set? Pop on some cheap Acc gear and make sure Composure is up when you WS. I'd think hitting for 0 would be far more likely than missing a three hit WS multiple times.

    I hit Death Blossom for 0 damage, returned 0 TP, and still landed Magic Evasion Down. I believe that was on Seiryu.

    Right. For this to work all people would need is a few cheap pieces of ACC gear. Nothing worse than being a 10 second melee RDM (now with an actual potential purpose) and whiffing on the WS.

    interesting, did you try it in a melee accuracy/damage build or just yer normal casting setup.
    i know rdm can buff up pretty good with the gear selection available, and can get somewhat decent sword skill through gear/merits. almost A rating just from gear. and i guess with composure we can sacrifice a couple accuracy+ pieces with more attack/str
