    For PS1 games, go here.

PSX on PSP Compatibility List - TheGamersPress

There are a fair number of games that have compatibility issues with the emulation on the PSP, Xenogears is unfortunately one of them.

In your case it's because you need to change pops versions on your PSP, there's only a few versions of POPs that won't lock up the first battle screen

It has to do with the popsloader, you need to emulate the proper version of the OS for PS games to work properly.

I got an e-mail from PSPslimhacks.com the other day, I don't know if it will be any help to anyone.

Big PSP Hack news of the week:

This weeks been a huge week for TA88v3 owners and PSP-3000 owners with previously unhackable PSP's. As Davee and Team Typhoon have released their ChickHEN homebrew loader. So now even PSP-3000 users or PSP-2000 TA88v3 users can enjoy homebrew games, applications and emulators.

Read more about ChickHEN: ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler R2 for Frimware 5.03 | HEN for PSP-3000, PSP Hacks - PSP Slim Hacks

The ChickHEN release also opened up the possiblity to install Custom Firmware on PSP's without the need of a Panodra Battery (Service mode battery). Which in itself is another big break through.

Question is, is it gimped? What can't it do that a PSP fat or slim can?

Edit: Sucks about the PS1 games, but better than nothing.

Gimped? You mean the ChickHEN -> M33 thing? I hacked my roommates PSP with it and it works 100% PS1 eboots, ISOs, etc.

I wonder if this ChickHEN thing will make it easier to break the IPL thing that's preventing CFW on the ta-088v3 boards. I hope so, because I have a whole mess of playstation games I've been meaning to (re)play.

Did you read the quote about it above? Here, I pulled that part out of the 3 short paragraphs of the article, in fact it was in the first paragraph:

Perhaps I'm not as well read on the subject matter as I thought, but I was under the impression that no CFW (which ChickHEN still doesn't allow on the ta-088v3 board, from what I'm reading) means no ability to take an .iso, place it on the mem stick, and play directly from it. If I'm mistaken, hooray. I never really looked into the homebrew games and whatnot because I was only interested in playing real games that I no longer had.

Question! Im still rocking the 1.50 firmware and running an snes emulator. I never once purchased an actual game for my psp and don't really plan on it. Now if I upgraded my firmware from 1.50 what actual firmware version should I get if I wanna install a PSX emulator on it ? Or can I even stay with 1.50 if I wanted to ?

If you have a Phat PSP AND a proper pandora battery, the version of your firmware shouldn't matter in the slightest. You just need to hunt down the files to make a "magic" memory stick. You should be able to find what you need on sites like psp-hacks.com or other similar websites
