I don't care whether you support gay marriage or not, or how you stand. I thought that they should be judged based on how they answer the question and what their reasoning is etc. Sure she sounded dumb, but she has the right to an opinion, and she should've at least gotten a 4 or 5(/10?im assuming) because she answered the question with her own opinion. There shouldnt be a right or wrong answer, that's why it said "do YOU THINK..., why or why not"

Dude, what? Whether something is legal or not shouldn't have anything to do with an individual's morals. If someone find same-sex marriage morally objectionable, they will find it objectionable whether it is legal or not. I'm trying to imagine the circumstance where making it legal creates a family-separating dilemma...

Are you talking about...like...parents who have gay kids having their families "separated" because their gay kid gets married, that being the breaking point?

What kind of families are we talking about here? There are plenty of things that people find morally objectionable that are legal...I'm crazy confused right now.

Also, in case it wasn't clear, I meant it had "No Effect Whatsoever" on the -rights- of straight people (which was Dezzimal's assertion), and is an incontrovertible fact.

I agree with you completely. Morals shouldn't dictate laws, especially out-dated, discriminatory morals. I'm not religious, however, I understand that mindset. They've been born and raised in a culture that placates to those views, and turning around a particular culture is very difficult to do.

As far as the splitting families apart, yes, exactly to your 2nd paragraph. I can't speak for anyone or experience, but I have no doubt the idea of actually having a son "married" to another man would be deal breaking for a devout christian, where as having an openly gay son would be bearable. Remember, it isn't the "gay" part that offends the christian community so much, it's the marriage.

Yeah exactly, its pretty underhanded of him to go berserk on her for stating her beliefs in a tasteful, tactful manner.

I think it was stupid of him to ask that question if he was only looking for one answer. I gotta give her credit for the answer she gave (even if it was considered "bad") simply because she decided to tell her thoughts on it instead of lying and saying what they wanted to hear like most probably do.

I agree it was underhanded of him to ask the question which was loaded in the first place and retarded of him to go off. Though I completely disagree that she stated her beliefs in a tasteful and tactful manner. I think she said it in a completely unintelligent, rude way and could have easily risen above by stating her personal opinion on the matter but sticking with her initial statement that each person should be able to decide on their own. That would allow her to have her beliefs without alienating people.

Even Perez in his youtube video said he would have given her a score if she had worded the same opinion differently.

Honestly, I think that's only because being anti-gay has become so distasteful in mainstream society, they are just clinging to the type of discrimination that still catches the ear of the current generation.

There was no good answer to the question. He may as well have asked "So, why do you hate the gays so much?" When you're ambushed like that it's near impossible to come off as composed and respectful.

That's ridiculous. He asked his question in a formal manner, and was, I'm sure, completely unaware of her upbringing or beliefs until she answered.

She wasn't ambushed at all, she even stated that "of all the topics she researched," that was the one she was dreading the most; implying that she had given it forethought and practiced her answer.

Rubbish. Perez would have found anything in her answer to attack. Do you understand he's not doing any of this out of a sense of pride in his homosexuality but rather as a stunt to promote himself?

My views on this are as follows:

    1) I think our country needs to wise up, drop the "this is what the bible says" crap, and get with the times. People will never be equal if you keep drawing lines as to what is and what isn't equal.

    2) Christians (most of them who are bigoted, that is) dislike homosexuality AND gay marriage. Look, God didn't make marriage between Adam and Eve, he 'created' Adam and Eve, who had two sons, and mysteriously spawned the rest of mankind from those two sons. Since Abel is dead, where did Cain's heirs come from?

    3) Her answer was bigoted because she acted like she represented the views of the entire country. I stated something in GameFAQs to a similar effect: If she had produced a more tasteful, intelligent answer, then there would have been nothing wrong with what she said.

    4) I respect her view entirely. I think it's admirable and ballsy that someone can express their views that freely on television in front of everyone when you know the entire competition may be riding on your answer. Unfortunately, her answer was lackluster at best. She thinks she believes? In her country? She could have easily stated something like "Well, that is a very good question. I was raised in a Christian family and personally I don't agree with the idea of same-sex marriages - but I respect the views of those that do agree with it and I think that one of the greatest things about our country is that we have the freedom to make such difficult choices in life."

In short, she didn't answer the question.

    5) Hilton's comments after the fact were deplorable and he gets negative respect from me (like it matters). I may not agree with her answer, as it could have been worded better, but I also think he should have acted more maturely about the entire thing. He's even more of a joke now than he ever was (not like VH1 hasn't turned into total-gossip-network anyway).

I really think she should have chosen her words better.

Even if it was a stunt doesn't make her comments less bigoted. Kuro pretty much summed up my feelings on the subject.

I thought it was fairly obvious that this was a girl who was simply a blind follower of religion and not a card carrying member of the bigots against gays club

guess I was wrong. Those are 2 completely separate things.

For you to come to the conclusion that she's a bigot requires a lot of reading into her words as more than a clumsy mistake. Which is what Perez wants you do to. He simply didn't see many headlines with his name in them anymore. Grats to him on his successful troll of the world.

You're right. Calling her a bigot is like calling a dog racist. She is just stupid and doesn't really know any better.

Last I check bigoted comments doesn't necessarily come just from bigots. A person can make a bigoted comment yet they not be a bigot themselves.

Well, you just called her stupid because of her religious beliefs. Unless I missed something in this thread, but I think it was made pretty clear that she felt that way because she was christian.

    Edit: I wooshed the sarcasm.
