Holy shit, I had been following news on this game some years ago when they were still thinking of calling it Grandia Zero. They kept saying they'd release it in closed beta over and over again but never met the deadlines and news just eventually seemed to stop so I gave up on it ever coming out. I'm really surprised this didn't die out and I'll be looking forward to trying it seeing as I really enjoyed Grandia I and II.

This is yet another reason why Grandia is awesome: practically all of its fans highly appreciate the series simply because of how lovingly crafted it is. Even if the total storylines aren't the most amazing, they're character-driven, and the characterization is always well-done (even when it's at its most stereotypical).

I've only played Grandia 1, never got the chance to play 2 or 3 but I might look into it when I need some RPGs to play. I loved Grandia 1 so much, it's great when you play a game 5-10 years later and realize that you're playing a truly great game and not just something sweetened by nostalgia.

I didn't mind the voices in Grandia, even if they were bad. Actually, it's one of the first RPGs I played with voice acting, so at the start I was pretty enchanted by it and wanted to hear more.

Grandia2 for PC has to be one of the better console ports I've played. It actually runs without requirements that dwarf the original system it ran on.

At any rate, I really can't seen an MMO of the series working well, without cutting out a lot of what makes Grandia, Grandia. MMOs are not known for their stories (nor character development), and I can't see their battle system carrying over at all.

The most I'm expecting is just an MMO placed in the Grandia universe with its style and music (loved the music in 1 & 2, never got around to playing 3 though) that people would be able to throw the 'lolWoW clone' tag at. Hope I'm proved wrong.

I can see it working as an MMO. The Magic + Weapons system of fusing together 2 types to create a new elemental spell along with weapons effecting stats and abilities can easily be tweaked for customization in an MMO setting.

I am interested in how the combat will work as well as what the classes would be (if there are any) I'll be looking forward to May 20th when more information is released regarding the game.

Edit: Damn, I feel like playing Part III now, never got to the end of it and I'm feeling Nostalgic...

Awhile back I had heard that the combat system was being planned to be something like PSO's battle system (action based) with more strategy in it. But, I read that years ago so I highly doubt they didn't change things in that time. Still, I like the sound of that battle system and it would be the closest thing to what the Grandia series has been using.

Can't find any information on what was presented at the Expo today about Grandia Online, but the website was updated today with additional information like Races, Screenshots, a Video and what not. I can't read Japanese so I have no idea what it says, anyone able to translate?

I think I'm going to replay Grandia 2 in honor of this amazing news. It was one of my favorite RPGs of all time for so many reasons. Plus I've gone way too long without Millenia's sexiness.

Figured I would drop this in for anyone who might be able to find out whether or not the beta in Japan is really going to happen and if there is any way to be a part of it if it's JP only. According to wiki info there is supposed to be a beta some time this month.
