Basically, there would be more censorship, we would get yelled at for doing some of the cool things we do, yelled at for talking about shit we got early, our hax to get the patch faster, etc.

Also, Matt I know you are reading this, why dont you make a post and say hi to the people, wouldnt at all hurt to be a part of the endgame community too, even if we arent the cool kids with the PS badges.

They didn't explain what happened. They didn't say it was a bug or an unexplained and largely unwanted feature.

They didn't promise shit. They said they're "working hard to ensure this lack of communication does not repeat itself in the future." That's no promise, that's just fishing for sympathy and people saying they're trying so hard.

It doesn't matter if the message is on POL or Alla; it's still just a PR post. It's not a two way communication. It wasn't an extra mile, it was an extra foot.

They have owned up to things before. They usually just make it a small statement, rather than a large ambiguous one.

They didn't publicly give any details as to what went wrong. They said they had to coordinate what to do. That is what every MMO company in the history of MMOs has had to do. They didn't say what made it hard to coordinate. They didn't say why this happened. They said nothing more than they usually say: they just said it in paragraph form.

When I said they explained what happened, I was talking more about the failure in communication, not the extent of the workings of the bug because it's irrelevant. We already know the update broke enfeebling, what else needs to be known?

The enfeebling bug was due to line:693492 of the game code in which an extra integer was accidentally added to the equation that calculates how elemental resists are calculated

If you want an explanation like that keep dreaming cause it isn't going to happen. Maybe I should not have said "promise" but these recent events have shown SE that we will not tolerate a lack of communication when it comes to things that they break and obviously need to be addressed. So what they said was not a promise, but more of the fact that they will pay more attention to how they handle things. They said that the delay came from taking "time to coordinate exactly how to best address the issue with the development team". Now I can understand what that possibly means...

I work for the US branch of an international company that makes ISP/Networking equipment whos headquarters are in Taiwan. When there is an issue that is being reported by customers, we test in our lab and then we send the information to our Headquarters for the R&D team to handle it. However, if the issue is one that is inconsistent; a bug that cannot be replicated on queue, it is harder to build a strong enough case and can delay the actual problem being addressed by Headquarters. The fact that some people said they were able to sleep mobs without issue and others who tried to sleep the same mobs and had terrible resists to me made it seem like the bug itself wasn't 100% consistent.

They didn't have to post on alla, they didn't have to post anything but they did. PR or not, we got a response. You may not like their response, but at least we got something...

This has to be completely untrue. All of those things are done on the wiki forums and from the little I've been to Alla they've all been discussed there too. No one has ever been "censored" for criticizing SE on the wiki forums, people regularly ask about the patching hax on update days, etc..

I like BG being the real man behind the curtain. What legitimate bonus have the premier sites gained besides getting listed in some shitty SE website links, and getting to ask crappy questions at interviews? There is no real interaction except very controlled stages Q/A and 'Oops we fucked up' cookie cutter responses. I don't see Sundi posting in discussion threads...

Agreed 100% with Sonomaa. Say hello, we don't bite. Careful about asking about the man behind the curtain, the last time someone did that Ragns let loose with the wrath of 1,000 wolverines.

All kidding aside it would be nice to see those guys post and share their thoughts on matters of the game. Even if this isn't a "premiere" site it would still be awesome nonetheless.

I guess I'm in the minority if I said that I'd love to see BG move to become a premier site. I think there's so much that we as a community could do for FFXI as a whole if we had a stronger voice directly toward those involved with development. Just having Sonomaa and/or others having the direct capability to attend the Premier Site Summits or special interviews would be amazing. And as Baelorn said, it doesn't seem that SE is really as strict as they might seem - a lot of random stuff gets posted on FFXIclopedia too, and I'm sure some of it is "breaking the rules".

But I guess most people aren't happy with the idea of holding their tongues.

This. This site got to where it is today because it was the place that didn't have any of the people KI/Alla (and now otherwiki) are disliked for. As we get more popular these groups of people mesh with ours, and being a premiere site would open the flood gates.

People like Buttons are awesome though. I wish all new players could be like him.
