maybe i'm just bitter but petasos+1 irks me because it implies you have enough diabolic silk to throw away on -1 int.

I use a very general macroset for rdm, four gearsets that on average have ~314 skill ~110 MND. For spell macros I simply swap on the corridponding staff and cast the spell. I really don't see the need to add gearswaps to a macro when I'm already wearing said gear. If I need acc or potentcy I'm already going to be wearing the gear needed before I cast.

Your macros might be different, and that's ok. Different playstyles doesn't make either of us better or worse if the end result is the same.

If you only have 4 gearsets, I will bet my left testicle I'm better. Unless you play on X-Box or Playstation primarily, there's no reason to not have gear swaps in each macro.. or just do what the cool kids do and use spellcast.

I'm glad we've been able to straighten out the importance of 1 INT and the proper way to go about enfeebling mobs that live for 30 seconds.

I feel...complete now. A sea of tranquility overwhelms me. The world is made of particles of light of 1000 colors. I see...a tunnel of light. Ronald Reagan is inviting me to enter into White Heaven. He beckons me...

That said, I will take 30mp solo any day over that 1 int. The pudding is going to die in 3 nukes either way
Oh I know it does provide more benefits, but before the upgrade to 80 (which I still havnt done due to me having 400k), I couldnt justify 1 inventory spot when I was already sitting at 67/70 as an endgame player.

When I get to 80 ill prolly grab a demon, but 67/70, no its not worth it. Or maybe soon since i quit endgame.
Uh? 10 MAB two percent of the time and 0 MAB ninety-eight percent of the time is effectively 0.2 MAB.
But shit is random! by saying its effectively .2 mab does make the damage look quite useless, but if I got proc 3x in a row, do you consider that crap?

Ugg Pendant isnt a 100% effect, but we still buy/kill nm for it (yeah yeah it is 'proced' alot more). 10 mab when it does proc is pretty damn hot, saying .2 just degrades what an item can really do for you.

I had gil so I got the better waist

Sadly giving out over 1.3mil to people as donations and spending like 1.6mil on fish for ebisu has left me quite low on gil now. But bout to start fixing that if i actually start logging in and fishing which i havnt done lately due to busier RL/coding.
What's the point of killing puddings and the fixation on puddings? BLM is a horrible merit job, and aerns are better for buffer. Should be using demon+1 on anything under IT level unless you have full morri.
Care to give examples of under IT mobs that you kill on BLM regularly besides puddings? I sure as hell cant think of anything besides destroying some rarab outside windurst when bored. Plus this topic was about puddings in the first place.

And I dunno bout some aerns being better than puddings... maybe if puddings was horribly overcrowded then or you cant manage mp to maintain good chain then yeah.

If it doesn't proc 580x in a row, do you consider that good? Just so you know, that's more likely than 3 procs in a row statistically.

You don't wear ugga pendant when it's not active, so that's a bad comparison. When comparing ugga to the alternatives, you lose nothing if it's not active. You lose several enmity comparing witch to p.rope.

Also, I love you for spellcast, just giving my opinions on the discussion :X

I like Thorny, he's one of the brightest guys here, and for 99.9% he is correct about everything and I share most of his opinions. Just sucks he always get to post before I do get a chance to comment!

About BLM hat+1 / Demon +1, for ME: Hat+1, I used to own a Demon+1 til I ran out of space and the - Enmity does more for me for most stuff I use BLM for then the +1 extra INT, and no I dont have shitty tanks etc etc before anyone comment on that as usual

Enfeeble skill, mnd, nuke, curing, fast cast, resting. Sorry, 6.

As I said I have a very general macroset for rdm, as I don't use it outside of merits and the occasional Dynamis run. Are there any gamebreaking sets that I'm missing for those uses of my rdm? I think not. But you're right, I'm terrible for not having the same gear or macros as you; my bad.

    Gamebreaking? Probably not.
Lacking large amounts of efficiency while trying to prove an inane point about the tiniest bit of efficiency? Yes.
The point isn't that you can't function with minimalistic macro swaps, it's that you're trying to argue you're right over the tiniest difference you'll ever see while missing out on a ton of efficiency elsewhere.

Having general sets is just bad, you should have at least 3 varying levels of MND/skill for enfeebling and at least 3 varying levels of damage/accuracy for nuking depending what you're doing. More is better. You also didn't mention an idle set..

This argument (small INT bonus vs. some other benefit) is older than these forums, and I know Kerberoz and I have had some variation on this dispute more than once in the past. But put me in the AF1+1 camp as well (with the obligatory "assuming no full morrigans," although I personally own all 3, just so it's clear this is not a opinion dictated by finances or luck).

I'm from the school that says the goal of a BLM DD in HNMs (and I mean only with respect to DD, ignoring any other responsibilities a BLM may have) is to do the most damage over the course of the entire fight without pulling hate. Now you can say, "who uses BLM for DD anymore?" which is a reasonable complaint, but you can still use them for a lot of older content and some newer content, and if you're not assuming at least that that's the scenario, then this debate is pointless (with the exception of buffer exp or exp-type events, which I'll touch on at the end). You can also make the argument that it's okay at times to pull hate for 1-2 swings on some mobs, since you'll still survive without any considerable issues. How often this is the case might vary, but in any case you can change the above to "without pulling so much hate that you die" or "without constantly running the mob around" depending, and I think it's still a fairly good guiding principle. If you don't agree at least with some sort of view like that then just ignore what follows, because this just resolves into a difference in philosophy.

That being said, on the fights where BLM can pull off reasonable damage with reasonable resist rates, if you are a good BLM and well-supported, you are likely going to approach the hate cap before it's over. This isn't a "shitty tank" issue, but more an issue of how quickly enmity is built by doing damage. At this point, let's assume someone who is still reading this post is going to back off so they don't pull hate. That's great, but the only way to improve your overall damage is by increasing the total damage you can do before reaching that point. At this stage, any amount of additional INT or MAB is pointless, and the only thing that is going to improve your damage output is the amount you can do before reaching that point in the first place.

This is why -enmity gear I think is often underrated for BLM. I think a good thought experiment for this is to pretend that any spell that would put you above 19,999 total enmity does 0 damage. If this were the case, adding just -10 enmity (on fights that BLM cap hate) is going to improve your overall damage 11%. -20 is a 25% increase. If it was reasonable to get -50, it'd double your total damage. This is just for an extreme example though, it's not reasonable to get that much enmity, and I'm not suggesting people wear Novia earring and full Hydra gear (in theory maybe, but you would reach a point where you don't have the damage or accuracy to reach that point before being limited by something else, like MP recovery), but BLM do get a lot of pieces that are minor damage downgrades for reasonable -enmity upgrades, and AF1+1 hat is a perfect example.

So basically, you can always just slow down and back off if you risk pulling hate on HNM (and you should, in my view), but if you are interested in keeping to that strategy while still improving your effectiveness, -enmity is the only way to go.

As for Puddings--or whatever your buffer mob of choice is--someone (I think Kaylia said it already). If some gear set affords you more max MP or Conserve MP without changing the number or kind of spells needed to kill a mob in the shortest time with the least amount of MP, then that's going to be preferable to your epeen damage gear. But that's just common sense. And of course how effective you are at getting buffer doesn't really matter in the same way that HNM DD does, I think most people agree. But if you're like me you find it fucking torturous, and anything that gets you out of there faster and more efficiently, the better.

Its funny to see you comment so much about how terrible my gear/macros are, when you haven't seen either. All I've given is a breif outline of both, and I'm berated by more of your "unfair assumptions."

Do you know how much skill/mnd/int/emnity is on any of my gearsets? If not, how can you even begin to criticize my efficency, or lack therof? Seriously, you know very little about me, yet are extremely quick to criticize.

Your own description of your setups makes you look terrible, and your name annoys me. You straight out said one gearset per thing, which means that you do not have adequate variation in your skill/mnd/int/enmity. I don't care how perfect that one gearset is, it's not going to be ideal on a good 2/3 of the things you're using it on.

This thread appears to be one big pissing match (and sort of one sided) for the last page or so. How about we stop, take a few breaths and come back with some sort of rational discourse.
