i think the abortion episode was one of the top reasons that people who hated the show did to the degree they did. she was really one of the best female comedians of the time, and really probably up until tina fey in terms of sardonic delivery and sarcastic wit. even then, tina fey doesn't really do a whole lot that's risky or awareness-raising. it seems like most women have gone safe with physical comedy (shelly long, goldie hawn), gone for money roles with romantic comedy (kirstie alley, kate hudson, anne hathaway, the list goes on) or even went too blue, like lisa lampinelli and sometimes sara silverman. they go too far or don't go far enough, rarely really hitting close to the mark. i'm hoping we'll get another woman in comedy who does it well, because at this point i have very little faith in the gender.
