that doesn't change the fact that ninjas are far more popular than spartans, additionally ninjas are in everything, and have been for a while. Spartans not so much.
you know what a great match-up would be. Mayan vs. Egyptian
Ninjas are still more prevalent in culture as a whole.
Green Beret vs spetsnaz is all i care about
Seeing mention of zerg has me wanting to see stupid stuff like Samus Aran vs. Lara Croft.
So what if something has been around longer, just because something was popular throughout the entirety 70's - 90's doesn't make it more popular than something that just came out this year.
That aside, I do agree this TV show has a popularity bias.
Also, the shit talking and recap every five minutes needs to go. There is about 12 minutes of interesting topics stretched out into an hour.. Thank you, DVR.
Lasting popularity is a greater measure of popularity than a 4 year old movie
The spike website has an aftermath video of the spartan v ninja ep where they address some complaints.
university filter blocks the site lol, whats the gist?
It's a 15 min video so I can't really remember but they talked about how ninjas would sneak up more and that they would attack at night and how they tested some other weapons, caltrop's was one, that didn't make it on the show because they didn't think they made much of an impact. They also reiterated how all the complaints of 'a real ninja would have 1 shot him with a blow dart' and said that this kind of case did happen out of the 1000 runs of the program but obviously that would make a boring ending video.
Watched what I could find of the Samurai vs Viking one and the Archery demonstration was very impressive.
Overall, this is a pretty entertaining show. Best part is talking shit to your buddy who thinks the gimpy truck driver is gunna win vs the french maid. No fucking way that feather duster is gunna pierce his trucker hat with mustard stains. The science and simulation is very very flawed, but there is no way youre going to get anything even close to accurate when comparing fighters from eras long gone with different styles. Pirate vs ninja vs apache would be epic. or spartan vs gladiator vs knight vs viking vs samurai. If dwims up and coming episode list is true, i cant wait for it. All of is has been great so far.
edit: Also, i think a sweet format to this would be a bracketed march madness style tournament. And the Apache goes on to face the winner of pirate vs knight!
what is the up and coming list?
back on page 1, about 8ish posts down
Anyone see tonight's show?
not yet no but wiki says winner was
Spoiler: show
Halfway thru episode... Anyone think its ridiculously stupid to compare a Sawed Off Shotgun to a Pistol?
Or even comparing a Bat to a Nunchaku. These tests never take into account defense or how practical weapons are. If you have two experienced fighters using a Bat and Nunchaku, I'm gonna side with Nunchaku..
I agree. The simulated fight alone was a joke. They made the Yakuza look like idiots. Yakuza starts shooting first yet didn't kill any (unless I missed it). Then later with the guy using the pistol missing all the shots then putting the gun to the guy's head but out of ammo.
Watching the weapon tests/examples are the most interesting parts of the show, but the results for them are stupid. They seem to put way too much emphasis on one-hit kills over ones that will incapacitate your opponent which sets up a killing blow (Nunchaku vs bat test for example). Also, if/when you miss with the Bat swing, you're not going to have a quick recovery time which leaves you open to attacks.
Preview of the Green Beret episode (unless it's already been aired, idk):
Green Beret
Edit: I lol'd at the video description:
Description: Things get bloody when the Green Beret tests his shit gun.
