How many T4 nukes can an automaton dish out before running out of MP? I think 4-5 can kill one of those marids.

Automatons have around 900 MP, and Tier IV nukes are around 150 MP. Should be able to get around 6 nukes off before resting. Also I have a lame little guide I wrote to help me collect my thoughts, but its mostly gear and merit related, not so much strategy related. Its also a few months old and probably worthless. I don't know of any good in-depth PUP guides. I learned most of it on my own.

I guess that is what is being done?

There is about a 20 second gap in between nukes assuming you don't deactivate your automaton. What some PUP/SCH soloists do, when they're soloing Marids is use Ice x 3, or Ice x 2 and Water x 1 Maneuvers, then use "Deploy". Puppet starts casting a nuke. Before the nuke goes off, Puppetmaster uses "Retrieve". Even though the puppet walks back to it's master, the nuke will still go off. Once the nuke goes off, the PUP will sleep the Marid. The time while the Marid is asleep covers the amount of time needed between puppet nukes. This time is used to use more maneuvers prior to deploying again.

I think a puppet can cast 6 or 7 Tier 4 nukes before running out of MP (depends on if the master is using the Mana Conserver attachment, which gives the puppet "Conserve MP" trait)

A fully merited BLM frame with 5/5 Optimization merits and 5/5 Magic Skill merits can land Blizzard IVs for over 1.7k dmg unresisted.

Well done! I doubt this will hit SE's radar for quite a while. Diabolos isn't a mob that yields anything terribly worthwhile for them to rush to patch it. Still, gotta try this before they do fix it!

Seems to be a few pups doing this then. There was a pup on Bahamut who's now shifted to Midgardsormir who said he could solo Diabolos too. Whether he does it this way I don't know since when I went with him, he used two of us to dia II Diabolos (we were disbanded inside so only the person who cast got drawn in, letting the automaton nuke)

    Congratulations!

I wonder if something similar could be done for the CoP fight? You don't have to drop down before receiving the cutscene or anything, right?

Interesting, but not really any skill involved so I don't see why it'd take the lol mentality out of pup. It's like a RDM bragging about wall of justicing something to death >_>

I was wondering the same thing actually. The main problem I see is that the level restriction puts the best spell you can use at Water II. Its a big difference from Blizzard IV, might not be able to do enough damage fast enough.

Neither do many of the RDM solos where you DoT something to death. In fact, not much of anything has skill involved.

The fact remains that very few can solo Diabolos (I didn't know anyone had until I saw this thread), so it's still pretty pimp. This thread doesn't read like a "brag" to me either.

It's doable by BLM and RDM, I don't want to get into a debate about the skill of ffxi because I agree that it's 99% what gear you use. My point was that it's nothing more than using a glitch, not really a solo..

Going to post this in the Fapworthy thread as well. The same PUP that solo'd Diabolos also did this on Friday night.

I find this pretty cool, RDMs and BLMs have soloed Diablos before, always fun to see new jobs to do it.

    Wow very nice! Congrats!

I was just wondering though, why did you have so much mage gear, such as the Loq. Earring and the Ice Staff? Just curious, I'm a low level Pup myself (lv31!), so I still have a lot of learning to do!

From what I understand, having more INT+ gear helps prevent overloads when using Ice Maneuvers.

Higher stats than your automaton makes the matching manuever overload less.

But what's the explanation for the loquacious earring then?

Or is it just part of his pup/sch sleep set (external to this pup solo being discussed)?

At first I thought the Automation and Diabolos were going to slug it out, so I was slightly disappointed at the screenshots. With that said, this still impressive, but obviously a glitch.

Well, its not really a glitch, just more of an oversight by SE relating to this specific fight. Pup is designed so that there is no initial hate given to the master when the puppet does an action that does not claim the mob, and this applies to every mob. One fight my ls did against PW we used a pup mule to cast dia on it while we recovered so that it would not regen with the same effect. Fight and assault both give initial hate to the master, but deploy does not until claim, and of course pup was added quite a while after this fight was already in the game. I don't think its something they found necessary to check. If Blm and Rdm can solo him, I don't see any problem with pup being able to do it easier. Nobody is going to get rich from avatar fight drops anyway.

Having the puppet and Diabolos duke it out definitely would have been more fun though. I need to go do this and grab that earring which i've wanted for a while. People on caitsith hardly ever fight diabolos, and when they do they just ask for blms, so it's nice to be able to just go and do it without anyone's help or asking me to change to a mage job (ugh).

    P.S. I miss the old pre-nerf magic mortar ;_;

I don't see a problem with them being able to do it, I just don't see it as nearly as impressive as people are making it out to be. It's not particularly creative, doesn't require particularly good gear, and has nothing that can go wrong really.
