Hey guys,
I mainly did the BCNM out of boredom, and curiosity -- this was more of a "How to" so to speak, rather than anything else. Though most of the questions have been answered, I'll explain the fight in a little more detail.
I have the puppet equipped in such a way that I can switch between RDM, BLM, and WHM frames freely (The attachments are noted in the SS's from the OP), and start out the fight with the WHM frame, putting Dia II on Diabolos, and immediately depopping the puppet.
After that, I switch to BLM immediately, and just have it cast 3 spells on Diabolos, which brings the Deactivate timer to 0. For some reason or another (I don't quite know why myself) Diabolos will not Draw In you or your puppet as long as it does not go down and melee him. So you can just leave it out, casting spells.
The key to the fight is not Magic Attack, it's Magic Frequency. You need to have 3 Ice Maneuvers to keep up with his Idle Regen if he's not Dia'ed.
Without equipping the Scanner, the puppet will Aspir after two nukes due to a shitty AI. But you can avoid this by equipping it, which tells it to not cast Dark Based spells on him.
After the initial 3 nukes go off, I switch to the RDM frame, and hit a Light Maneuver to put Dia II back on, and then some Ice Maneuvers to get some Thunder III and Blizzard III jabs in while the Deactivate timer cools down.
Once Deactivate is back up, switch back to BLM, and repeat the process to 50%.
After 50%, the puppet will not cast DoT's on Diabolos anymore (yay SE...), so it's more or less an uphill battle against the Idle Regen. I just kept recalling the BLM frame when it ran out of MP. The only way you can keep up with the Idle Regen is with 3 Ice Maneuvers, so I 2HRed after 30% to make sure I can get 3 Ice up, and maintain it without worry.
I'm sure this can be done the same way for the CoP mission; perhaps it can be done easier, due to the lower tier nukes having a quicker cast time.
Again, this was more or less just posting that it could be done, not really so much to impress people lol.
Also, nice Armor Piercer siyual. I take it you did 3 Fire Maneuvers with TS and FH then forced the AP with the Inhibitor for that?
Precisely lol, didn't even realize the AP was on the first page.
Well, Siyual and I duo'd this earlier this evening as PUP x 2 and it was cake.
My observations....
As long as the puppet stays at your side, it will continue to blast away. Make 100% you have a Scanner equipped, otherwise the puppet will cast Aspir after a couple of nukes. I also had Mana Conserver equipped, which enabled my puppet to cast about 8-9 nukes before I had to DAD. I don't have as many merits on PUP as Siyual does sadly, the highest nuke my puppet could use is Water IV, but it was landing for about 800-900 dmg with 2 Ice Maneuvers up. I did have a couple of resists due to a couple of Overloads that occurred during the fight, but Siyual's puppet made up for my puppet's overload.
It was so strange seeing Diabolos just sitting there eating the nukes, it was almost surreal. I had personally gone 0/alot on this fight with various setups including a bunch of SAMs with RDM/DRK, BLM manaburn, etc. all wipes. I get win with 2 PUPs....lol
No it's an exploit/glitch because it's obvious this fight is not intended to be fought in the way that is described. Try casting a spell on Diabolos with a character, instantly the whole group (not just the caster) gets drawn-in. SE specifically patched this fight to do so. Fighting it on the ledge is identical to using terrain to block a monster from attacking you.
There is no way that killing a monster in a fashion without it being able to retaliate is not a glitch. Whether or not something has been an exploit for 5 years doesn't change the fact it's a faulty game mechanic and if anyone really cared to bitch about it odds are it would be patched. The only reason I think that SE might not care about it is that this glitch is incredibly limited in use and not really negatively effecting game balance.
P.S. Again I'm not saying I care either way but reality this is a glitch/exploit and people should be warned as much.
All i ever do is lolPUP but this is actually worth a damn. Good job
I find it funny how some of you are actually all crying FOUL. Why is this?
Is it because PUP now has something to be proud of that's worth a damn and you don't like it? You don't want to figure out another job to attach "lol" to?
I guess if you never even took the time to give PUP a try and level it, if anything for lulz, you'd understand. But some of you are so closed minded, and I find that incredibly sad.
It's not like we're duping Salvage drops or anything (yes, I just went there). The only thing I got out of this: I can now summon Diabolos. WHEE!!!
Besides, Siyual actually checked with a GM after he completed his solo on Saturday and there are screenshots of it. The GM said it was cool, and totally within in-game mechanics. If any of you cruise the KI forums, check the Puppetmaster forums there. You'll find the thread and the screenshots. GM was Ramzig IIRC
We're calling foul because ... the mob doesn't hit back. Do people use wall of justice to kill jailers? Yea. Do they brag about it like they're uber and it makes their job that much better? No. See the difference?
I like Puppetmaster, I think it's a very unique and versatile job. But this is obvious exploitation, and you should consider yourself lucky you don't get jailed or banned for doing it. The wall of justice trick has gotten people banned before.
Screenshots of Siyual clearing this with a GM. Now tell us it's an exploit.....

News Flash: Nobody cares what the GM said. You won't get banned for it either.
The guy who did it seems pretty cool and not too arrogant, Yeager on the other hand is fucking obnoxious. It's a neat trick, but it's still an exploit and a single solo does not take the LOL out of a job with next to no use in most endgame situations. The fact that it's an obvious exploit takes the bragging rights out of any individual player as well, so the only reason this thread should exist is to inform others they can get an easy diabolos for a bit.
Well, forgive me for trying to defend a job I like, and the actions of one of my LS mates.
I had originally made the thread just to show it could be done. But the people coming in crying foul saying it's an exploit.....it's annoying to me, maybe I shouldn't take such offense to it I guess.
Again, my apologies, I don't want this to become a drama thread.
More of a glitch or oversight than exploit imo. Whatever let Pups have this, no need to be upset over it, it will either get fixed soon or not, who really cares? In the meantime, kinda cool imo.
I find this pretty cool and fun. As for regarding exploits, weather it is or not, GM or no GM, I don't really care...
What I care is how people have to poke at this, like its their business, just like the Salvage crap. Salvage was more an impact but this, come on seriously, mind your own fucking business, leave them to do whatever, if they get banned then so be it, but don't bitch because your precious RDM BLM or whatever job you have that isn't PUP, can't solo this despite glitches. Go level PUP, no one's stopping you, but until then STFU?
PS. I don't have PUP either, it's level 11 or something? I do have RDM and BLM though.
That's really my view of it. It doesn't hurt anyone else, game play wise. I just wouldn't be surprised if there might be some people who are butt hurt because they think FFXI has to be pure "cheat" free. Look at the idiots who tried to stop Smn burn by killing people's exp mobs.
It's cool in the sense, "hey check it out Pup can glitch out Diabolos and win solo." The thing is though it's a glitch not testament to Pup's ability to solo really.
Not that I'm trying to defend this as not being a glitch or anything, but I've kited mobs on COR solo and killed them with QD before. It is no where near as difficult to do as this. Just because Diabolos doesn't attack doesn't mean its easy. Macro misfires can screw up the entire day, if ADD goes off wrong Diabolos will probably recover 50% of his HP. It takes some good merits and good gear, as well as a deep understanding of PUP to pull this off solo, timing things wrong can cause him to regen and waste 30 minutes of your life.
Diabolos may not attack, but people get praised for exploiting the fact that if you switch gear during Quick Draw it stops the animation and lets you keep running. This is similar, its just exploiting that puppets won't get drawn in. Just because he doesn't attack doesn't mean this is "easy."
That said, I do still recognize it is a bug and will probably be fixed.
