Oral exam for directions (Japanese; again!)

Wasn't sure if to post in the other topic but this one is a bit harder I think... If mods want to merge I guess they can heh

I have an oral exam on Wednesday (along with final, meh heh) on directions based on this map. She'll ask directions to four areas on the map provided below. I am curious to see if I got it down right (this is really basic Japanese year 1 btw hence repetition of similar phrases too)

    http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...apOralSnip.jpg

    Starting from bottom up...

    *Kooban (police box)
--Asoko ni tosykoan arimasu nee. Tosyokan no mae desu.

    *Tosyokan (library)
--Asoko ni kooban arimasu nee. Kooban no mae desu.

    *Honya (bookstore)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, koosaten de hidari e magatte, hidari no deepato ni arimasu yo.

    *Deepato (department store)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, asoko ni kado sugu desu yo (unsure about this)

    *Kissaten (coffee shop)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, asoko ni kado sugu desu yo (unsure about this one also)

    *Eegakan (movie theatre)

    *Byooin (hospital)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, tukaitari de hidari e magatte sugu desu yo.

    *Gakkoo (school)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, tukaitari sugu desu yo (feels off for some reason)

    *Amerika-taisikan (American embassy)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, tukaitari de usiro no gakkoo sugu desu yo.

    *Yuubinkyoku (post-office)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, tukaitari de migi e magatte sugu desu yo.

On the Vista PC so I am unsure how to turn on katakana/hiragana on it so had to type in romanji here (my other pcs can do it fine)

Really appericate any input ! =)

"hidari no deepato" is reversed, it's object - particle - relationship when you want to place things in relation to each other. "hidari no deepato" means something entirely different than what you want.

And instead of torturing yourself with where things are in relationship to the intersection just keep using 'in front of' and 'to the left of.' It'll make your constructions easier to write in general.

And I suspect your teacher has oversold you slightly on the use of 'nee' and 'yo' to end sentences but whatever.

Oh was trying a little variety with the intersection but I can understand since it did give me the most trouble XD

Thanks for pointing that out the mistake I made there that was rather silly of me XD You're also prolly right about the -yo portion just something I tended to do out of habit when not entirely necessary.

Friend of mine pointed out something else here:

kono miti o massugu itte, asoko ni kado sugu des yo
    BECOMES
kono miti o massugu itte, asoko no kado ni arimasu

Kono miti o massugu itte, tukaitari sugu desu yo
    BECOMES
kono miti o massugu itte, should be tukiatari ni arimasu

Other than these and yours I am unsure if it is good enough XD

With a title about Japanese Oral Exams, I'm highly disappointed.

Because no one over the age of 12 cares (or should care) about gamefaqs polls?

Your teacher actually gave you the exercise they were going to use for your exam? o_O
I have my Oral exam on the 7th May, got Aural & Reading/Writing exams on 1st May. Then hopefully I will be spending my 3rd year at Nagasaki university! =D

    *Honya (bookstore)
--Kono miti o massugu itte, koosaten de hidari e magatte, hidari no deepato ni arimasu yo.

I presume miti = michi 道? My teachers were really fussy about the romanised way of writing things. -_- I have to admit, I had to look up Kōsaten in my dictionary. We just learnt the word Kado for corner when we did directions, teachers never even mentioned this kōsaten.

You could say - kono michi o massugu itte, kado ni hidari e magatte, honya wa biyōin to depa-to no aida desu.

So you're saying Go straight down the road, turn left at the corner, the book shop is inbetween the beauty parlour and the department store.

It all looks pretty good, it brings back memories of my 1st year at University! Good luck with your exam, it looks like you'll do well. =)

lol mine was similar as well
however its blowing my mind how every person I've spoken to that has taken a japanese lang. class is learning a different way of speaking/writing it

my professor is one of those that really emphasize politeness
every sentence will end in です or ます
    ahhhh

gonna have to make some JP friends to learn the more casual JP

    edit: curse that yamada san
    he does it all

Yeah my teachers are funny about this also. The Japanese teacher Natsuko sensei (She's like your grandma! =D) always pushes polite polite polite! However we did learn the plain forms when we did diary writing practice.
However our other Japanese teacher, who's from Poland is awesome! He always takes the time to make us aware of the more casual forms we will hear in conversation but I think he started this, this year because he has been preparing us for our year abroad in September.

Yea we're using a rather old book that has accompanying old videos XD I think all of it was done in the late 80's so they show it as "zi" instead of "ji" and same with "ti" over "chi". I normally stressed politeness too but then I was told by someone to use "yo" in directions so they feel assured.

The picture of the girl is just a girl Yamadasan I think. She wasn't really used as a landmark. She will just be used for certain questions like if she is next to this building etc. Basically it wasn't a beauty parlor especially since we never learned that word XD

Thanks for the encouragement too^^ The actual written portion will be a bit tougher but should be well. I can't stand oral exams of any kind since I get a "stage frightness" of some sort when it is one person looking at me like that.

Ahh yes I see it now, Yamada san's house is written right next to it! xD When we learned these the teachers had to throw in Byōin and Biyōin which is hospital and beauty parlour as if we weren't confused enough at the time!

I know how you feel about the oral practice, I know what to say etc, but I just freeze up when it comes to speaking. This year I've had more practice with the Japanese students who came over to our university. They've told me that we're doing well for 2 years intensive Japanese and it took them a long time to be confident when speaking English. So I guess someday something will just click and that sorta stagefright will go away then. =)
