I like this thread, having never levelled MNK but understanding what works I have always known and said that Dune Boots couldn't beat Usu/3% feet only to be argued against by 75 MNKs but here's the proof I couldn't be bothered to do or believe I needed to.

Like everything else, it is situational.

Assuming Destroyers, your delay at 75 will be 348. Add 22% haste (ignoring haste spells), and that becomes 272~. you swing every 4.524 seconds, for 13.26 attack rounds per minute.

Add 3% haste from fumas and your new delay is 261. You swing every 4.35 seconds, for 13.79 attack rounds per minute. A 4% increase.

However, if you have Melee Hose and kick attack merits over 100 attack rounds (again ignoring haste spells and making it very simple):
No dunes
punches:200*(floor(292*.11+3) + 18 + 8 ) = 12,200
kicks: 20*(floor(292*.11+3) + 8 ) = 860
total: 13,060

Add dune boots:
punches:200*(floor(292*.11+3) + 18 + 8 ) = 12,200
kicks: 20*(floor(292*.11+3) + 30 + 8 ) = 1,460
total: 13,660

for a 4.6% increase.

The Mnk mentality of Fumas=gimp is going away, but you have to gear accordingly. At 8% haste you won't be using fumas to their full potential but you will only parse slightly lower than someone with the same gear and dune boots. Once you achieve Walmart Turban, Byakkos, Black Belt (even Brown belt) then Fumas pull ahead. Add haste/march, then it's a no brainer.

I'd still keep Dunes around for the random footwork/FW+DK though. Just for shits and giggles.

Sure, when people develop a maturity to reealize that people are alowed to be diffrent, i know full fucking well fumas are better, hell i USED to use them, but i rarely get to use mnk outside salvage, soi im not wasting an invetory space, and i do plenty of damage, it's just spike tho beause that's how i choose to use, havnt met another mnk that can really even keep hate off me, even with - enimity merits, so the "less damage" part is gone, footwork is like most things in this game..a situaional ability, if i have to explain that, then seems to be your problem.

Seriosuly, wtf is up with this "you're not allowed to be diffrent bullshit"? is it not possible for somone to know there job but can still fuck around with it? feels like i steped into a pre-school.

Long story short. don't care, still don't care, won't plan on caring, when i get to use mnk more, i'll maybe get them. stop with the orochi bashing shit, if you know or even seen me play, youd understand that i know my choices, i'v never had any complaints, book, cover judge, etc.

because 99% of the time different == gimp. there is in fact a reason why everyone uses (or wishes they had it, if they don't) identical gear as everyone else that plays the job: because it's the best.

intentionally using something that you know to be inferior is stupid to begin with, but when you start advocating the item's use, that is not OK. comparing yourself to someone else, who could have been half naked for all we know, and then saying dune boots aren't worse is not OK. if you want to gimp yourself a little, because you get more enjoyment out of it, then that is OK (of course it still hurts anyone you play with, but not enough to really be worth making it less fun/entertaining/etc for you). as long as you don't encourage anyone else to gimp themselves whether by misleading them into thinking dune's are better, or otherwise, and aren't hurting your party/alliance/linkshell in any significant way, feel free to do whatever the hell you want.

I still carry my dune boots with me, but 95% of the time I'm on mnk I use fumas.

I've been on the Dunes > Fuma boat for years. It's hard to believe all this time i've been following blindly. C'est la vie. I've gotten use to my Dune Boots/Relic Pants, Kick Merits. But, I have no Haidate; once I do though, will certainly switch to Fuma. Thanks for the math guys, great stuff ^^
