I know this is old hat but, Do they use any system like the NA for their dynamis planning? If so, it would be nice to join up with said sites with ours so JP's who go in during NA times can plan with us instead of the war we sometimes have with them over zones. If No, Why wouldn't you want to plan ahead with others shells to show respect and keeping the peace (Not just with LS's in general, but between JP and NA overall)

If you really want to have an interesting survey, the first question should be, "Are you too lazy to learn English, or too stupid?", perhaps followed by some sort of vague implication that English is number 1.

Many other Asian MMORPGs have Cash Shops or other sections on their website to buy items to get in game fashionable equipment. With the Tidal Talisman and, to an extent, the Mini-expansions, are JP looking forward to, or perhaps even pushing for, more items(fashionable or not) that can be bought from Square Enix directly just like in other asian MMOs.

You're actually required to take at least basic English to pass high school in Japan. Also it's a lot more likely that younger (school age) Japanese kids/teens will understand some English and speak at least a little compared to older generation (60+ age) Japanese adults and also depending on where they're from, because since Japan is an island nation there will be some..so to say "closed off" areas compared to areas like Tokyo and Osaka which is the 'business world' part of Japan.

Hmm, in Hong Kong, and most likely other developed Eastern areas the academic pressures to do well are extremely heavy compared to the west. If they want to learn English on top of doing well on whatever subject the students are doing, assuming the players are 12-18, it is not too big of a surprise to find that they don't know English.

I have relatives in Hong Kong that cannot truely speak fluent English, who are 25+. And from the chinese TV I watch, on the news if they do interviews for school or talk about schools, the English they learn is extremely basic.

Consider that these people will most likely not live in a county outside their own, I don't think it is too lazy of them not to learn English, it's just either too late for them or they see no need. I understand of course English is more or less spoken everywhere, but however put ourselves in their shoes, assuming no English translation of X product exists, would you be willing to learn Japanese or any other language just to do X activity?

I'm bilingual myself but French/Spanish/German classes and there are lots of (optional) classes for picking up the language here. Yet, hardly anyone does it, and those that do have to take it as part of the curricalum only know very very basic phrases, enough to "pass" a school exam, but not enough for anything other than smalltalk. After it's done and you're off to college/university to do whatever you like, it's mostly forgotten about.

Just based on this, I would say they don't understand English, in response to Hyan's question, although I would love to see a response as well from the JP players on that. Given how some players completely butcher the language in terms of short-typing out stuff or horrid spelling (I didn't spellcheck my post so I'm waiting for someone to point out an error on my part =p ) I'd be surprised if they understand much of what we say at all.

A recent experience was during a Nyzul pick up run, a JP WAR aggroed a NM wyvern (forgot which one) on a lamp floor and consequently died twice in a row. The leader told him to "GTFO!" ... I'm quite sure even if we spelt it out for the poor guy he wouldn't have understood much of it :/



EDIT: Norcellicus's "Xenophobic" term is quite useful here, I had to look it up to see what it means. Back in university (last year) you rarely see any of the asians hang out with any whites. They all stay within their little group(s) and social clubs.

Honestly, more often than not the COR's that I see subbing NIN or RNG are the moral equivalent of melee RDMs. Can't do their fucking job and fuck it up for everyone else.

COR are support first, then about a million other things, then a DD.

Funny they think NA are 'ferocious' when in reality we just speak up about what we want since this is a service we're paying for. Seems like JP are just shy,quiet and passive while NA are aggressive,dominant and we speak our mind. Out of the two i'm sure we all know which is more effective in getting shit done.

Yes it is and this is another excellent question. Usually when I get to merit my Corsair it is late in the night or early, early morning and I am always asked to /whm instead of /rng or any other sub. I just don't bother fighting it anymore...

It just works better with Corsair/Mage and Bard/Ninja. Bard's are naturally better at pulling since they can sing any time they want while Corsairs must be at camp when Phantom Roll is ready and must stay there until they finish Double Ups. Also the Corsair can provide extra damage to the party with ranged attacks and Quick Draw when they're not busy. Bard can provide extra damage too, but most are too lazy to bother.

Golden Week starts very soon in Japan, which is a bunch of holidays morphed together in order to give people a full week off from work and school. With all the time off, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to open up communications again between the EN and JP players.

To begin, I'm going to start this thread in several forums and take questions. The questions will then be posted on JP-based forums to be read and answered, and their new questions will be brought back. The results of compiled questions and answers will be presented on JP Button, but to participate you need only reply in your forum of choice. The JP Button Community Team will be monitoring all the threads involved in the Q&A project. Your feedback is important to us.

In addition to the discussion itself, Corinth is constructing a survey that will be posted along with the results pages on the site. If you find the Q&A project interesting, we would really appreciate it if you filled out the survey, so we could present more data about each side of the player base. With the Q&A and survey results together, I think there is real potential here to help English and Japanese players understand each other much better. I hope you agree and help us out with this project. We're even figuring out how to throw a prize in there for a lucky survey participant (art book, manga, etc.)
