The reaction was way over the top. To ban people that weren't even involved is ridiculous. And it is relevant. My issue is, like SE, they are punishing the players for using the means that were provided by their respective companies. SE programmers gave us the salvage dupe. A WoW GM gave the player the weapon. While I would have thought it was common sense to maybe just hold onto that weapon and not use it yet, but apparently not. Idiots.

Only connection I could see is that both companies ban people that cheat, which you would expect any company to do.

A direct action from a game employee that broke rules and allowed a handfull of players god mode in a new event and thus resulting in a ban of a slightly larger handfull of employees is NOT the same or comparable to a coding glitch that was used by thousands of players for almost 2 years, resulting in the permanant ban of full accounts. Not to mention the time difference in FFXI vs WoW accounts.

It's not at all. Both companies banned a lot of people for being directly or indirectly involved with cheating. Wasn't that part of the complaint about the Salvage bannings? To us they seemed at the time to be arbitrary and capricious?

I was more posting it to show the similarity between the companies than any difference.

If people can't see that, and just turn it into a WoW vs. FFXI fight then they should just save us all the trouble and eat cyanide.

Discussing similarities between the companies in an FFXI forum on how they handle cheaters is irrelevant when neither will ever have an influence on the other. All this boils down to is comparison which will ultimately lead to FFXI vs WoW, a notion that's further cemented with the fact there's a WoW subforum to post their own headlines. This thread is nothing but flamebait.

Actually... looking up the guy and all, it appears that he still got to keep all his "extremely hard end game achievements". So.. I guess they didn't ban him too long for their mistake and only took the item, leaving him with all his other stuff he got from using the GM item. Probably a temporary ban/investigation and then let him play again.
