ITT: a whole bunch of people need to do some learning about germs. Urine is sanitary, and as such the necessity to wash hands after simply peeing is low. Feces contains all sorts of unfortunate, harmful bacteria. Washing hands after a shit should be a top priority. However, being a nutbag about hand-washing and sanitation in general can lead to a diminished capacity to fight off the various bugs floating around out there. Bitches need to learn to happy medium.

    NORMAL urine is sanitary.

Maybe bitches need to learn about disease and how it's spread before they open their mouth.

I battled MRSA for almost a year a couple years ago. I'm not sure how I got it, it may have been at the gym, or at work since at the time I was in cell phone repair. MRSA is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, its like a staph infection on steriods. It caused a pimplelike sore that got the size of a dime. It started in my nose, which exploded, and caused a very high fever and I had to go to the hospital. Every so often, it would reappear on different place on my body and I would go to the doctor and they would try many different medicines and cures. The sores left scars on my body that look like I was stabbed or shot. The virus literally ate my flesh. People have died from this.

Before I used to only wash my hands every so often, but now I wash my hands at least 10 times a day, and use hand sanitizer all the time at work. I have a huge bottle on my desk.

To the people that dont practice good hygenine, I leave you this.

That right there is staph for you. I get to work with all kinds of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.

Hand sanitizers (ethyl alcohol), bleach, UV light (not that you'd use that to sanitize your skin) and other things can curb spreading staph from environment.

I carry a pocket hand sanitizer in my backpack at all times, and i use it once very couple hours. At $2 a week, its well worth it.

Yuppers. Also, the instant urine leaves the body it is highly susceptible to bacterial growth. People can be asymptomatic for UTIs and still give them to people.

Also to the dude above with the staph infection, glad you recovered, saw a friend of a friend go through that and it looked like he got hit with a fucking hatchet on his back. Really scary stuff that.

washing your hands before you use the bathroom, as well as after, really comes down to common sense. If you feel like your wang is a disease ridden bacteria carrier (much like the rest of your body) then wash your hands accordingly.

I'm very healthy personally. When you're in a lab that does clinical biochemistry, and someone next to you (or even yourself) is working with urine/blood/plasma/feces/processed muscle/processed organs you tend to get past these things. I also play disc golf at a course that A TON of canadian geese live at. If I was worried about my hands being sanitary, I'd never be able to play because I'd be too worried about the germs. Personally, I can't live being worried about germs all the time.

edit: read up on that staph infection here. It's really not as uncommon as you might think.

I guess I fall into the group of people that rarely washes their hands. Except after dropping a deuce. That's pretty standard and terrible if you don't.

However, I typically always have my hands around my mouth/nose/eyes. I don't chew on my nails but I typically have something in my mouth, it's weird, I have the strange desire to always chew on something or have something in my mouth. If it isn't one of my pencils thats probably been on the floor and never washed, then it's my finger next.

And to fit myself further into the group, I never get sick, I have allergies which makes me congested if i spend too much time around my cat, but I haven't actually been super sick in almost 4 years. I got pink eye a couple years ago, but that was it. The only time I really get sick is if something really strong hits my immune system.

(also, if I get a cold or something, I won't take medicine for it, I let my body handle it. The only exception is if I can't breath because my nose is so congested, I'll take something to clear my nose out.)

As for my routine in the bathroom, I don't touch anything with my hands, my school has motion detecting paper towel dispensers, so you don't have to touch it.

And when I had pink eye was the only time I actively used hand sanitizer and washed my hands frequently, only because I didn't want to pass it on to anyone i knew.

    Rookie.

When you're ready to join the big leagues, you can join my terrorist organization that markets urine disguised as hand sanitizer.

    S. aureus is part of your normal flora, as is S. epidermidis. When people are talking about the bacteria on feces, it's mainly the Enterobacteriaceae family. Most of the enteric bacteria are Gram-negative and require different antibiotics to treat.

Whoever said you have bacteria "IN" your skin? Not really sure where you trained or got your info. You have a resident population of flora ON your skin, but not IN your skin. The skin/mucous membranes are actually the primary barrier to infection and honestly most of your normal flora do not cause disease. Take E. coli for example. The "bad" strain is the O157:H7, which is enterohemorrhagic. Plain ol' resident E. coli does not cause disease, but can cause you to go into septic shock if it somehow gets out of your intestines.

How many people here have a foreskin? How many of you take the time to pull it back and wash under it every time you shower? If you can remember to do that, then you should be able to wash your hands after you pee (or take a poo poo)...NO PENISES HANDS OR BUTTS!

    Spoiler: show
(no ifs ands or buts, get it, wakka wakka wakka)

I was talking in the epidermis, not any other dermal layers. Hence why you need the mechanical action of WASHING to do anything. Dr's don't scrub in forever just to eliminate the bugs on the most exterior part of their limbs.

You know, a lot of hand sanitizers dont even work against the harmful viruses and bacteria. Gotta read the back and make sure it contains > 60% alcohol or it doesnt do shit.

    Here is a question -

How many people's hand washing habits change based on whether or not they are at home or in public? I am sure there are people who don't wash their hands at home for whatever reason, but do it in public to either A) Keep clean or B) To show people they aren't nasty.

I wash my hands at home too. I would hate to give my kid something cause I was too lazy to wash my hands.
