Mainly because some people want the 2x on-character inventory space that is supposed to be an incentive to increase your account security, but don't want the increased security they get with it.
However, not using the token with an SE ID leaves you more open to keylogging, since you have to input the password manually every time, and now you end up using it with a web site a bit more often.
Useless Post is Useless.
Most people buy token for the satchel, and most people have friends. So why not save your friends $10 and double their inventory for free by use of the token's satchel? You can't seriously tell me you think more people bought it for the security.
And bungiefan why do you keep posting negatively in EVERY single token thread when someone mentions canceling? You hate people wanting more inventory, we get it, you can shut-up now.
After the scare of so many players losing their accounts to Keyloggers and having all their hard work taken from them in an instant only to have to wait weeks at a time to not only get their characters back but also to deal with the hassle and lost time, I'm pretty certain a lot of us were going to buy it regardless.
The extra inventory was a nice bonus but I'd have bought the damn thing if it means I have to almost not worry about my 6+ years of work being taken and used to farm A-Mantles.
Suppose I am basing my sample size on only the dozen people who I know bought tokens in game. I would be interested to see an official poll though on how many people bought it because of the satchel.
I understand you wanting more inventory, but the whole point of this mechanism is to increase account security. I'm trained in the IT field as a system and network admin. It irks me to see people making themselves more vulnerable with tools that should be making them less vulnerable. The satchel is the incentive, not the purpose.
POL IDs are supposed to be one person per ID, not shared. SE IDs and tokens are supposed to be the same way. You make it harder on yourself if you have a problem by doing that because the company providing the accounts forbids such use. Yes, it saves money to the individuals, but it's against the rules, partly because they then aren't just trusting your use of the account, but everyone that shares the login. The fewer people that are trusted with the information, the less vulnerable the account is.
Trust doesn't mean you know they won't harm you through use of the information. Trust means they have the information and can possibly do something harmful with it, or can lose control of that information, whether or not they actually will. Trust is extended to the machines they play on, since those can be breached and let the data go against your will or the user's will.
About 1000 extra inventory?
It seems even if one of the people I share token with gets key logged the worse that will happen is the attacker will delete the SE account, make us all unable to log in for 1-3 days until I call SE and get it undone anyway. So in theory we aren't losing any security on losing account, just a possible minor inconvenience.
I too have degrees and cert's in computer IT field (networks specifically) and though what you say is true, the ultimate security is user intelligence. If a person is smart enough to not get a virus, set up effective firewalls and what not, than they are even more secure than an idiot who has the token (and yes a smart user with the token is even more secure than one without, but the inventory increase is worth the minor risk I have of getting hacked).Originally Posted by bungiefan
You've also tied all of those accounts together, so if something like the salvage dupe bans happen again, if one of the accounts gets banned, they can all get banned.
Do a poll on how many people bought it for the satchel and are fucking annoyed at Security Evangelists preaching in every thread.
Well the point is, if you want a satchel, you'll have to enter the SE password from now on, regardless of token or not.
So what's bothering you people is either:
1. Using token adds another 5sec to enter the second password
2. Sharing your account with others because of token password.
I used to use my friend's accounts but I don't see the benefit of it really, if he wants some gear or something, let them login, why should you help them while they leech off you? If it's because you want to duobox something, find more real people to play.
