Windows 7 Release Canidate This Week!

Was wondering if i could install the x64 version and not experience slowdowns?

-4 gigs ddr2 ram
-E6850 @3.0ghz core 2 duo

Installed this on my MSI Wind. Startup is now 23 seconds longer but the fact that it had drivers for everything is pretty epic/awesome. Wifi-N connection set-up was incredibly easy, very user friendly. My mom loves it, my grandparents can use it. This looks like a winner.

So who is a wonderful person who can help me figure out why this thing has blue screened 3x since Friday? Once in Aion, once in FFXI, and then once when I was just randomly poking around in Windows. 64bit Ventrilo was running in each case. I have a sneaky suspicion it's probably sound driver related but not really sure how to see what caused the crashes. Any thoughts?

Currently running right now, I am pretty impressed. The only thing it couldn't find was my sound drivers but even then I wasn't disappointed. Does anyone know which version of Direct X to use? My graphics card isn't compatible to run 10 so just go with 9? I ask because I was also wondering if they automatically installed it.

Took the plunge and did the install tonight, running good so far. Also put up a quick guide for those upgrading from XP and wanting to get FFXI back up and running asap (wasn't as painful as I thought).

Read what the blue screen says. Sounds silly but some blue screens actually try to help you pinpoint the problem. It won't be exact but sometimes it'll tell you the .dll or program that caused the error or an error code. Google the codes for more info.

There hasn't been a new version of dx since vista came out, so 7 should have the latest. It also doesn't matter what version your card supports; it will only matter within your games and newer ones probably auto-detect for you or will give you some error and say your card doesn't support dx10. Should always install the latest version supported by your os, like XP only "officially" supports up to dx9, 98/me up to dx8 I think, etc.


Been considering using 7 in a future build... I might just try it out sooner then later.

I've also been using W7 on my other PC and it has been great. I'll ride out the RC until it expires in March of next year, but I'll definitely transfer over then.

I'll probably keep rocking build 7100 until launch. It hasn't given me any problems to date on my laptop or desktop.

I love Windows 7 so much.
But I was wondering.
Has anyone else experienced any "odd" issues with wireless internet? I have a dual-boot vista on my 7 machine right now because for some reason every ~10-40 minutes my internet shits out and the network disappears from my connectivity. I can enable/disable the adapter about 3 times and everything works once it's back up, but after the 3rd or if I'm lucky fourth time I have to unplug it and plug it back in.
Honestly I'm thinking it's the adapter dieing, but I'm not sure.
Anyone else have any similar issues?
