Unable to turn in unlocked WSNM weapon to receive "Map to the Annals of Truth".

Pretty much following the title of the topic. About 2-3 months ago I received the Pick-axe from Brutus (Quest: Axe the Competition - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki). But never got serious to the point of completing 300 ws points to unlock the weapon, then return to Brutus.

Anyways, last night I decided to unlock the weapon (and I did).

Then headed back to Brutus to turn in the weapon to receive the "Annals". Upon trying, nothing. Tried talking to him and I got the cutscene... For the WSNM quest, at the end of the CS he wants to give me a second Pick-axe to unlock... I've tried zoning, everything you could possibly think of, no cigar.

One thing I did notice, after reading the wiki throughly. I don't have a key item on my character called "Weapon Training Guide". Which I'm guessing this may be the culprit =/.

Currently waiting for a GM response but I'm not expecting much other than a canned response from them. Anyone that might have had a similar problem like this before with a possible fix? I can't believe I'm having such a headache over such a shitty weaponskill -.-.

Sounds like you canceled the quest to do another and forgot to throw away your pick.

100% never canceled it. I haven't had another WSNM/weapon to unlock since SAM which was almost 1-2 years ago lol. I just don't understand why I never received the key item?

Try throwing away your pick and getting a new one anyway. 300 WS points is like 90 minutes, dealing with GMs is a lot longer.. I'm going with what Niiro said though.

GM couldn't tell me why, and that everything was working as intended. So I'm going with the latter that I'm just screwed and have to do it all over again.

Brutus is a pain in the arse cos he's got about five quests he tries to start any time you speak to him anyway - I ended up going and finding the lost fucking chocobo (and selling it to KFC) just so I could get my AF done without hearing about the fucker.

Yup.

And to the OP, you have the quest "Axe the competition" show up in your quest log under Jeuno? Since you don't have weapon training guide key item it's possible the quest didn't start correctly when you spoke to Brutus in the first place OR you have cancelled it without realizing.

Problem is brutus i think.. Talk to him plenty of time before you get to the axe part. He wont accept it when he is talking about other quest.

You might need to finish other quest first too.

Based on what you've posted, it's obviously glitched. If the GM can't/won't help, your best bet is to reset the quest and start over.

Just finished the Choco "Hot & Cold" quest just to make sure. Still no cigar.

End result: fuck decimation, not even going to waste another 90mins on that.

I've had a similar issue recently with the Savage Blade quest. I counted, very carefully, how many ws points I had obtained, and it was still not unlocked. Then I went to the NPC to trade the weapon in, and she kept telling me that I had not yet unlocked it. So, I decided to give it some more time, which I did, over 100 points more, still nothing.

So I contacted a GM, and they told me, "Perhaps you are not fulfilling part of the quest's requirements in some way?"

I proceeded to tell them that you can only obtain the item once you have the appropriate sword skill, and that I obviously had that, because I had the item, and the quest, active.

I decided to cancel it, and work on Blade: Ku, since I wanted that more, but I haven't had a chance to really try for the unlock yet.

All I know is, I was unable to get the weapon to unlock, and this was all post-update.

This is the conclusion I came to a long time ago, as far as I can tell Decimation just isn't that good. Primal Rend is worth unlocking but it's BST-onry.

Check latent on the weapon, don't rely on your own counting of weapon skill points. Equip the weapon and see if you get the change in elemental resistance specific to your trial weapon.

i've nearly unlocked every weapon and never had an issue when I just verified finishing via elemental resistance stats. My guess is its something you have done or forgotten to do, or miscalculated how many points you did have. Perhaps a mob you fought wasn't EP like you thought, but rather TW even though it was the same mob? I used to have beef with GM's and their "everything is working correctly" answer, culminating in a 8 hour wait in Ro Maeve waiting on that stupid pool of water and a clear sky - Finally when there was no weather, and full moon (93%) the pool didn't change, so I contacted a GM and asked why - he said everything was working normally. So, I deduced that it has to be a 95% full moon or higher, and next full moon I got my pentasphere.

Alot of times we think its something the game screwed up, but usually if I sit back and think about it, its usually something I just thought I took care of, and I didn't.

In short, verify with the latent elemental resists.
