(On birds anyway) I *feel* that I already outdo my own DRG (Valkyrie's Fork, Black Tathlum, Aurum Cuirass, Homam Manopolas/Cosciales/Gambieras, Ace's Helm, Love Torque, Swift Belt) as is on polearm SAM. I don't have polearm merits but that'd only end up helping both jobs, SAM more so... But I do plan to parse both setups again when I have more time.

veyronn has a parse with 2 diff amanos at birds with him leading. but honestly parses at birds are about as accurate as a circle lol.

DRK is fine. WAR is a better raw melee. DRK has some stuff that makes it warrant an alliance spot just the same.

Regarding the OP: Yes, if you level DRK as your xth melee job just for zerging (I myself will do that sometime soon, I have WAR MNK and to a way lesser extent DRG; working on DRG gear). No, if your DRK is your first melee (or even second melee). Grab a Fort axe for zerging now, work on a kris or ridill.

Oh and guys: you're degrading Standard with this stuff. Don't.

Edit: @ Rikura, yes Polearm will outdo Amano on birds with 2 brds or brd + cor by a decent margin, although if you only have 1 camp you might end up fighting too many wirves for it to be worth it.

while both magic damage taken and physical damage taken both cap at 50%, any magic -% over 25% is negated by your WHMs capped Shell V. That is, if your WHMs have Shell V capped.

Yeah, just forgot to add in Resentment for signet areas. Once you reach 25% cap, don't you start stacking MDB as well? If so, DRK has access to Iron Ram gear, Lamian Kaman and Mantle.

Edit: I realize SAM has access to Kaman and Mantle as well, was mentioning IR due to it being one of the three jobs able to use the gear.

I have outparsed a few Apocalypses on birds but polearm's kinda good. DRK still added more exp/hour by having a Cure IV WS. Fulltime hasso hurrah.

I remember when I cared about doing the most damage evar all the time.

Then I chilled out and took comfort in the knowledge that a few simple rules hold true.

Sam does it more often then anyone.
War does it harder than anyone.
Drk does it and cries afterwards.
Drg does it in midair, hard, with a blue rat.

Had someone make a comment during Dyna that they were outdamaging me, tossing in a "obviously, you're a taru" line.

Me, I've been there, done that, hit it for 2400 Dmg and died shortly afterwards.

I do Dyna lately as War/Drg when I can, because Jump is the most fun JA ever, and High Jump actually does a little to help me stay alive... where meditate just makes me go retard mode.

I took my super-anal, ultra-tweaked WS macros, my formerly tricked out WS gear, and made simple quick fun to play 5~6 swap macros for my various WSes/JA's and shit to preserve my sanity during otherwise mindless events.

Ultimately, I feel most comfortable these days on War/Nin, because then I don't have to rely on anyone else to try and get hate off me if Seigan/TE fails... and I can be useful for a wide variety of things... kinda why I leveled Pld too.

Epeens are fun, but DDing as a tank is more fun, and more useful.

Hasso and Berserk are the two most broken DD abilities out there, most jobs have to pick one or the other, Sam/War and War/Sam do not. Mathematically they enjoy an unfair advantage in the vast majority of situations, that's just the way shit is.
