Drakesbane definitely doesn't parse much higher than Penta. It's still an awesome WS.

    My top list of WSs:

    - Catastrophe
    - Namas Arrow/Coronach
    - Slug Shot/Sidewinder
    - Tachi: Gekko
    - Penta Thrust

Penta there on account of being usable to get fast exp, and WAR/SAM availability.

    Someone update for 2009?

Fun Note: My MNK out parsed an E.Body WAR the other day.

This isn't really a replacement for the old one (because it isn't right!). I was just bored.

    http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...comparison.jpg

I'd probably put PUP a bit higher than that but I'm biased.. so I decided to leave it as it is. SAM could be too high, and I'm not sure if NIN is that bad. I haven't partied with enough COR's to know how their damage is in merits so I didn't include it.

SAM is the most foolproof DD because of Gekko, then come DRG and WAR (ACC trait, Aggressor, good WSs) and then DRK. MNK is the most foolproof of the 1H-DD, and then comes RNG before NIN and THF (easily fucked up). Even more easily fucked up are BLU and PUP. That's as low as the lines can dip. As for as high as they can go... situational. Going to say DRK is the highest on account of Apoc, and RNG WAR DRG SAM MNK only a bit under that (RNG perhaps a bit higher than the others). THF and NIN are a fair bit below that together with BLU I guess. PUP is even lower.

RNG is not a super DD with really fantastic DOT due to the fact of the shooting delay
It is more a job that is able to deal good damage, at a range, being mage friendly (dont even need haste!)

snapshot is != haste due to some damn stupid fixed preparation and reload animation

however rng is very useful and is very safe if you can control the enmity right :D
Granted some rng out there can easily beat the shit out of some wars and sam, but thats the minority

and some thf and nin can deal much more than you expect

I left out Cata/Namas/Mercy type shit.

As for DB (note, I basically am never referring to Death Blossom, for future notice) not doing much better than Penta in parses... to date I think I've seen 1 Drg actually gear for DB the way I would. Bearing in mind that it is 50% Str mod, I still don't think a Str +60/Dex +19 WS set is the best way to get the most from this ws. Not by far.

2H's crit mod is kinda different from 1H

and its really hard to boost DB's crit it seems :\

I'd assume DB is similar to RR, which crits happily in my 68 +40~ Dex WS set.

The difficulty lies in being able to hit 100+ Dex on Drg REALLY being a steep hurdle compared to most jobs with crit TP wses, except perhaps Blu.

I wouldn't call it a steep hurdle at all in reaching those DEX values on DRG during WS--they can use hecatomb too, you know. Hecatomb Subligar offers 8 DEX--7 less than Byakko's Haidate, but in nearly every other slot you can get the same amount of DEX: Zahak's Mail over Ebody, Heca for heca in head/hands/legs. Factor in that 1 DEX you get from Black Tathlum and you're only 6 DEX off from what you'd use on WAR during RR perhaps.

Granted this is Mithra and not everyone would be able to get gear like this, but it does seem harder to boost Drakesbanes' crits though like Arthars said, at least compared to Rampage/RR. Maybe I'm just imagining things since I don't play DRG that often, but it sure feels harder to boost crit on Drakesbane!

Drg has low base Dex for one, Nlegs aren't super easy to get, and 7 Dex is a lot.
Nhead, Zahaks mail, and the bad luck I know some have at having nhands or nfeet and 0/20 type luck on the other.

DB may in fact have a negative crit rate penalty, but I doubt it personally.

On birds, nothing at all can even compete with a good KC rng. WSes twice as often as the best DRGs, and WSes for 2x as much on average.

Also, Apoc is the most overrated thing in this game, second only to the DRK jon without an apoc.

Anyone who is defending drk - it's fine, there's nothing wrong with playing a job you like, there are even a few situations where having a drk is preferable (I'm talking outside zergs...if you know you want stuns, or an extra person that can sleep/etc), but honestly, for pure damage, it doesn't matter who you outparse; pretend -you- were on sam or war and had the gear; if you can do good damage as a drk, you would do better damage on a real DD job.

    Drk is great for Nyzul!

    So is Blu though >.>.

That's what I'm saying about parsing btw.

I don't give a fuck if you're sure you can outparse every war out there, if YOU were playing their toon, and they were on yours, would it still end up the same way?

If not, congratulations, you understand that there actually is A LITTLE more than just autoattacking and randomly mashing macros to being good at shit.

Yea, DRK isn't an awful job. And they are still without a doubt even worth bringing to merit parties/etc. They even shine in some events like Nyzul/etc where you want someone that can reliably stun things that need stunning, be an extra person to sleep, or generate enmity without meleeing (I really like drk/nin as a tank on the SSR chariot, personally).

But it shouldn't really ever outparse an equally skilled and geared player on a "real" DD job.

Also, Apoc still looks insanely overrated, both on paper, and from the ~3 I've seen in action. Someone mentioned a cure4 WS/etc...I guess there may be some times that's nice...definitely doesn't mean shit for parsing well in merits though.

    Yeah it does when abused.

Let's you ride Hasso, hit equip haste cap without giving up all those slots (letting you use yummy toys like Are's legs), and never deal with MP issues really due to healing yourself every time you re-engage your turbo WS.

Would a War or Sam be much more broken with a Cata type WS?

Obviously, but it definitely kicks Drk's up a few notches when abused properly.

This is how I currently Gear for DB:

    FFXIGEAR.com

it rips apart most mobs i fight. The only Major upgrade I can get is Heca Legs or Ares Legs at the moment (HQ Heca aside).... Unfortunatly, neither will likely happen soon.

Yeah I need to work on getting Zahak's Mail and Cuchulain's Mantle sometime...in the far future. But Love Torque, should it perform better than Flame Gorget for Drakesbane? I've generally been using elemental gorgets for every corresponding WS except on THF, but I'm still a bit hazy on what's considered better.

0.1 fTP versus 7 Attack and 5 Dexterity, the Accuracy comes out about the same for both.

5 Dex towards crits though, I'd go love torque myself, and I'm a diehard gorget supporter.

Forgot about Askar legs, but yeah... I see a lot of Ares body/Aurum legs/Alky~Pallas type stuff posted for DB sets... it hurts my soul.
