Whatever you do, avoid comcast. In many places they are the only provider and they constantly have service interruptions or just provide slow speeds and technical support. If you have the option to choose another cable provider, I'd say go for that over the DSL.

Geez, I live in Illinois. I can get in touch with tech support within 2-5 minutes of calling them. They've been able to come next day to fix any trouble with cable outside, like a tree falling on the cable, or rewiring all the coaxial cable in my house for free. In addition to that, they started offering HDMI cable for their HD/HDDVR boxes, and they gave me 4 free cables.

Again, I'll have to recommend D-Link for your router. I had trouble with Linksys routers going bad. I've had the same D-Link router for the last six years, no troubles so far!

Why are you buying a modem and router? Doesn't the ISP at least provide you a router?

Cox doesn't provide routers. TWC will provide a modem(decent one) and a router if you go wireless. Most provide them though.

Most ISPs these days give you a combination modem+router, which is what I assumed they'd give you. Making you buy a modem is pretty shitty :/

Personally I'd just take the modem, as long as it doesn't randomly reboot or is a complete POS it should be fine. All the modem should be doing is authenticating with your ISP and receiving an external IP address. Get that nice router and let it handle DHCP and all the traffic routing.

Well we got the modem I posted for 50 bucks. The one Cox was offering was 40 I think, and idk what the specs were etc, but I had heard the ones they provide are not reliable, so yeah.

Holy fucking shit this is awesome. It got installed today, and my download speed through MU/RS etc went from 80ish kbps to 1200kbps.
