I can't believe no one has mentioned this:
Metal Gear Solid
Spoiler: show
Depends on the style of games you enjoy. I've had everyone since the game came out hammer me on how great this game was and how I needed to play. I think I've start and stopped the first one about 20 times because I just can't get into it. For me, it's garbage and wouldn't recommend at all, but if you started playing it and enjoyed it but never finished it, go ahead and finish; it's a pretty stale period for games anyway.
Gamecube one has updated gameplay but the ps1 version feels good and is epic. It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy a good story (and it is a story, so epic long cut scenes and conversation) then I recommend playing. MGS2 onwards have much better gameplay and the story is still as good, so play MGS1. Or at the very least, try it.
Final Fantasy VI:
Spoiler: show
Edit: 4 isn't 6. Both are fantastic games though. >_>
I guess i should stop bullshitting and finish that game already, I'm on the final act since the month the game came out and never touched it after.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Spoiler: show
Yea i got confused too, but still made me ;_;
also
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Spoiler: show
FFVII
Spoiler: show
Grand theft auto san andreas, when you're riding your bike quietly on a desert road and an airplane crashes meters in front of you.
One of the best plot twists ever was in Persona 3 if only because it takes so many things and ties them all together at once:

I mean, that was the spoiler to end all spoilers.
Only other game that comes to mind right away is Xenogears. What I loved about that game's story was that so many things seemed so unbelievably random throughout the game and yet nearly every single one, no matter how weird or how out of place it seemed when it occured, is eventually explained. The game really needs to be played at least twice, if not more, to thoroughly grasp the plot.
Spoiler: show
Edit: Ohhhh shit, how could I forget Mother 3? It occurs very early in the game, but it's still one of my top 3 shocking videogame moments of all-time, maybe number one.
Spoiler: show
you know what I mean if you've played it. that scene made me nearly cry and you barely even got to know the character. they did an absolutely perfect job with the emotional pull on that one. just perfect.
I need to pick that back up, I got sidetracked by Fire Emblem around the time that Salsa joins you. so please don't spoil it any further for me without using tags![]()
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (PS)
Spoiler: show
I bought the Essentials Collection so I have the PS1 version and I bought the LE of MGS4 and haven't played it yet lol. I was stuck at Sniper Wolf before someone told me how to get back to the heliport (hiding in the box, have yet to do it though)
I play games for story first, graphics don't make the game anything special if I don't remember it.
