MAG (Massive Action Game) Trailer

Didn't see anyone make a thread in regards to it, but theres a trailer up for the game at:

A massive new war is coming...

It looks like a really interesting concept, 256 players, but really is all dependent on the execution of game. Either way looking forward to a Beta.

For those who dont know what MAG short for Massive Action Game is about, heres some info from Wiki:

MAG: Massive Action Game is the tentative name for an upcoming MMO shooter exclusively for the PlayStation 3[2] in development by Zipper Interactive. The game was announced at Sony's E3 2008 press conference, and will be released in Q3 2009. Various subtitles are being considered for the game, including MAG: Shadow War, MAG: Zero, MAG: Global Assault and MAG: Final Hour.[3][4]

Gameplay

The game will utilize a new server architecture[5] to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads.[6][7] Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system.[6] Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay.[8] The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.[3]

Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play,[6][9] with three factions S.V.E.R (pronounced Sever) a group from war torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Raven, a futuristc group who wear black armor and sport high-tech weaponry. And Valor, a Military like force with gear like the US army. The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes.[9][6] The game will boast complete ground up class creating with weapon attachments and perks such as explosives. Also, players will be able to customize their characters including face, voice, and armor .[10] The game will be a first-person shooter.

It will take 3 Supermodel virgins ready to fuck the weekend away to get me interested in this game, I really think they are WAY over their heads with this game to be completely honest. I could probably have more interest if it was on PC, but not on a Console.

Hopefully it would be decent to playable but nothing groundbreaking

I love games like this..massive areas with more than 16 players is better for me to play than worrying about someone behind me while I snipe or try to sneak up on someone. I heard this was supposed to have a sub fee? I hope not it'll turn me off completely if it has one but beta give please now.

I just want to know if the game capable of holding its frame-rate when there are 255 buddies onscreen (ignoring the fact your PSN friend list maxes at 50), or whether the developers are making the maps so bloody large and 'separated' that the most you'd see is the average 24'ish you get on consoles?

It looks like they just stole BF2's squad system, but added another tier of 'squads' within squads.

I'm sure they'll do something to make it run well, I used to think Resistance 2 was going to be a lagfest and they proved me wrong. I'm also pretty sure they bumped the max up to 100 a long time ago for your friends list.

I really hope it's as good as I am thinking it will be. I was a little disappointed to see that it is 1st person, but ah well.

I agree with Insane as well. Most of the FPSs I've played favor one type of combat. Hopefully this will allow for different styles of play to work effectively.

I prefer smaller-scale FPSs anyway, where you won't get omgraped in 5secs and can actually hold your own against some others.

there wont be 100 ppl on screen per se, the battlefield will be split into "zones" of around 16 or 32 ppl and i believe you can move into and out of these "zoned" areas. at least thats how it was described at e3. kinda crappy that they play it up as being able to fight with 100 other ppl at once.

I thought it looked amazing. Though this will be somewhat a pain playing with casuals, but get in to a good clan and do clan matches and you'll have some awesome game play. Very similar to Socom in that aspect (Well, it is Zipper making the game.)

I'll definately be giving it a shot.
