Anti-football forces the opposition to play like cavemen, this is exactly how weak teams like Greece gets somewhere. And this is exaclty the reason why an incompetent manager like Guus Hiddink can never manage a team like Barcelona(he was sacked by Madrid board like 10 something years ago). Heck, a "Diego" in his 60's with 2 children wouldn't even employ him as a waiter to serve tea in a small cafe in Catalonia.

If Chelsea was a top tier team with some decent prestige(other than what you get from russian/arab sugar daddies), Roman Abramovich would grab his Blackberry, punch in the numbers of British Airways on the beautiful night of 28 April, and buy a one-way first class ticket back to Russia(he still manages Russian national side) for Guus Hiddink.

FC Barcelona, (Més que un club) will show what positive football is to Manchester United(since ferguson would never play anti-football) on 27th of May.
Wrong. Not once did they try to go from the sides, nor not once did they try through balls, which even with Chelsea's defense would've been a better option than what was displayed. Even in their goddamn counterattacks (when Chelsea went all the way up) they were so fucking slow that by the time the ball got to 3/4ths they were back. Learn to play faster, learn to play skillfully. Seriously, not to sound offensive but you're starting to sound American, maybe you should stick to watching American Football or Basketball..

Sorry it just pisses me off when people defend shitty playing. Granted, both sides played shitty, but Barca was by far the shittiest.

lol. Np. I know what you mean though. I played for 14yrs here. It still never ceases to amaze me the amount of disdain Americans show for football. The vast majority of them know absolutely nothing about it, yet feel the need to criticize it.

I always thought it was amusing given how slow paced baseball is (which is always their argument as to why football "sucks"). Not to mention how complicated baseball is too. Never realized it until one of my buddies from England watched a game with me and I had to try to explain the rules to him. It was hopeless.

I never said Barca played well, I'm just against anti-football overall(once again, not talking about defensive play).

    Top teams, and supporters in modern football hate anti-football as well(i.e the Capello case). In Fabregas' words;

Teams just defend, defend and defend, they try to waste time. I call it 'anti-football' - but we have to accept this happens and break teams down.
This is basically what makes La Liga(not american) more enjoyable than any other league in the world(again, in my opinion). But if Terry hard-tackling Messi is your favourite moment in a CL semi-final game, then nothing I, or anyone says can change your mind.

However, calling positive football supporters in the world "american" won't definitely get you anywhere.

Positive Football Supporters: Anti-football sucks because of this, this and this.

    Anti-Footballers: Nah.

Positive Football Supporters: But, this this this! Look at "this"!.

    Anti-Footballers: NNNnnnnnnnaaaahhhh.

Pot, kettle, shitty football, etc. Say what you want about positive football, I enjoy "positive football". I don't give a crap about shitty football though.

The exact response I happen to hear from anti-football supporters everytime, thanks for proving my point and good luck to Chelsea in their mom's league(EPL).

Couldn't care less about Chelsea, however this anti-football shit is starting to piss me off. Of course I don't like it when a team sets a fortress and doesn't even leave their zone, but what I dislike even more is when people that apparently have no clue what they're talking about try to discuss and analyze their views. So, how long did it take you to find the term anti-football on the internet? Yeah.

As I've said, learn to analyze playstyles, or don't even bother defending a statement with ridiculous quotes and theories. Barca fan much?

Yes, I'm a Barca fan but this has nothing to do with me being against anti-football.

I'll answer this as well. No I didn't find the term over the internet. I think it was 2001 or 2002, when Mircea Lucescu became the manager of my favourite team, Galatasaray. We won the UEFA Cup with an extremely positive, fun-to-watch football back in 2000 and I simply didn't enjoy the radical change from Terim style positive football to Lucescu style anti-football. Before that I was familiar with Italian-style defense, but that was when I first heard of the term anti-football. I also prefer La Liga style football to EPL.

    learn to analyze playstyles
Morinho style and to a certain degree, Capello style defensive play is acceptable. But Hiddink against Barca?

They score a goal, and then defend with 10-men. If they score another goal from a dead ball or a counter attack, oooo awesome! if they can't, no worries. Hard tackle messi, man mark attackers and wait "patiently" for your opponent to push up make a mistake. Not a bad strategy for Southampton, but Chelsea in a CL Semi-final?

Look, if you don't mind your team playing anti-football, employ strategies towards how to make opponent "not-play" then fine, its not my problem. This discussion is taking longer than it should.

I have my answer now, not even gonna bother with this thread anymore. Congratulations, I don't know whether you've been trolling or truly know nothing about football, but you got me. Once again, enjoy Barca getting screwed by ManU like a rapist that just got out of 10-year prison with fresh bait.

Again, its very easy to ignore every point I make and pull a "I won't bother with this anymore"(after a 2-page long argument) right after I post "this discussion is taking longer than it should". I completely understand that, however because this isn't going anywhere with cheap ass "nnnaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh u kno nothing" replies.

I could get into the possible tactics both teams could employ, and how Barca are the favorites and will win the cup but seeing the statement above, I don't think I'll waste my time with that.

I hate defensive football, that's why I avoid the EPL like the plague. I'd rather watch my ice cream slowly melt. Damn, this ice cream is so fucking good.

I dont see how you can go around saying barca are gonna win for certain maya.
Both teams are very balanced, and football is never just about skill, luck and unfortunately dumbass referees play a big part in the turn out of any match.

As for the EPL chelsea is literally the only team ive seen use constant defensive tatics, i love watching Man Utd play when there on form, same goes for Liverpool, gerrard and torres are a joy to watch. Watching chelsea isnt so easy on the eyes, there forwards have little to no style or finese, it just always seem to be a question of physical strength. I also hate Lampard, most overrated pos in english football, he had a couple of good seasons, but whenever he plays for england now Gerrard just over shadows him, id play Carrick in Lampards place tbh.

AS for Man Utd vs. Barcelona, i cant wait, Messi and Ronaldo on the same pitch /jizzinmypants, gonna be an exciting and well balanced match if both teams are on form.
Lets just hope for a consistent ref and im sure it will be a memorable night!.

    This weekend: Chelsea 4 - Arsenal 1

Chelsea did not "sit" on their lead at all, scoring 3 goals before Arsenal was able to hit the back of the net. We kept attacking throughout despite leading big.

So much for the "Chelsea scores one and plays ultra-defensive" theory....

hi, how many midfrielders have scored over 100 league goals?
20 goals a season from a midfielder is something special, and whenever he does it 3-4 seasons in a row? sitting on 19 goals this season also i think.

as for constantly defensive, 63 goals in the league this season, thats what... 2 short of united?

said it before, if you go all attack against barca, you'll get thrashed

As a barca fan, I am just adding some flavor to the match. And I agree, God vs. Ronaldo will certainly add another dimension to the game.

Manchester United will definitely have some character on the field which will make this a really interesting final.

What i mean about chelsea is, they pass it around at the back, and straight back so cech, cech proceeds to kick it has far as he can, and hopes that one of the attackers get it.

Thats standard chelsea play, which they did alot of in the first leg against barca and they got raped down to it, luckily for chelsea they learned alot for the second leg, and barca were clearly not bringing there A-game throughout.

As for the whole lampard stuff and throwing out statistics, i dont really care about that stuff, lampard is greedy, he can do some nice stuff against the majority of the premierships defense, but lacks pace to be good against any defender worth his wage packet.
Whenever chelsea play a match against a top flight team, with world class defenders you rarely hear his name mentioned, im pretty sure the only time i saw him in the first leg vs barca was when he was subbed. How many goals you score, and this and that, mean nothing when you are mainly playing against clubs that have half ass defenders.
And arsenal's defense counts nothing towards this, because they just straight up suck currently.

All that said im upset chelsea arent in the final, they were honestly robbed, and thats coming from someone who hates chelsea, best of luck to them in the FA final though.

Lampard only scores off deflections. This is a fact.

Chelsea did not take their chances and that's why they're not through. They sat back on in the Nou Camp and tried to rely only on their counter. By putting 9-10 men behind the ball and only taking minimal chances, they opened themselves up for the possibility that Barca would score at the Bridge. Who here honestly thought that the most prolific team in Europe this year would be shut out over 2 legs. Hiddink got it wrong. He left it open for Barca and Abramovich's billions still can't buy European glory. Sell half the team in the transfer window and buy more players that won't win.

    Plastic flags. Check.
    Plastic fans. Check.
    Plastic atmosphere. Check.
    Plastic head. Cech.

This is officially the "retardedly false over-generalization" thread.

Lampard definitely gets a lot of "right place, right time" goals, some of which are luck, but others are skill for positioning himself in smart goal scoring positions. I like to compare him to a good rebounder in basketball; there's a reason why the tallest guys don't lead the league in rebounds every year... some players just KNOW how the ball is going to move and where to position themselves to get the ball. Lampard does this exceptionally well.

He also takes the majority of free kicks / penalties for CFC which certainly adds to his goal total.
