    Car Audio

I haven't seen any topic about this, I'm not even sure if it falls into this category, but here it goes.

I know zero about car audio (the console, speakers, etc). Right now I have a simple Kenwood radio with CD/Aux in my Subaru Forester. I have stock speakers (at the front and back, I don't even know the size).

So here goes my question... I have $750US and I'm looking for good audio quality. I hate the boom boxes on the trunk (I think they are called the base?), so thats a no no.

    Anyone has any suggestions?

They're called sub woofers technically. Most people just call them subs.

Anyways though since you don't want those.

Best advice with that budget would be to focus on the quality of your mids and highs and get a decent amp for them.

Uh. Gimme a few minutes and I'll toss up some links. What year is your Forester? I'll find the specs on that too.

Edit: Mids and Highs are your component speakers.

Pretty sure you'd need 6 1/2" and 4" speakers for a Forester, but without the year I'm not 100% positive.

Check out the Infinity Perfect series though. Should be just about right for your budget.

As far as an amp I'd go with something along 100Wx4. You can find some Rockford Fosgate and JL Audio amps that'll fit into your budget with the component speakers.

That's enough info to get you going. Just google it up and maybe call a couple of car audio shops in your area to see what installation might cost and what they would recommend as well. They might have some sales going on that would save you some money on shipping etc.

I have a Subaru Forester 2007, the XS version.

I'm gonna order them from the interWEBZ, since it's mad expensive in Peru to get any electronic stuff here (example: the basic alpine radio = $400US). I'll check those,

    Thanks for the help!

    6 1/2" and 5 1/4' component speakers then.

Shouldn't need to do anything as far as your CD player. Changing the component speakers and juicing them up with an amp should give you the best results.

From personal experience I highly recommend Infinity for the components.

As far as the amp, just check out reviews on them and go with the best you can for your budget. Like I said, 100Wx4 should be about right for your price range to get a quality amp.

Thanks for all the helps guys, I'll check it all out this weekend. They are charging me about 90US dollars for the installation of 4 speakers and an amp (they are supplying the wires), that sounds about right?

I started with a basic head unit (Pioneer DEHP 4000UB) / concept 6" two ways, and a concept 90x2 amp. Was borrowing a 10" kicker from a friend at the time.

Recently upgraded to Orion HP Series dual 12's in a ported box and got a free pair of Alpine Type S 6" for my fronts. Running it off of a Pioneer GM-7300M at 4 ohms (125 watts each to 500w rms subs = sad ; ; ) Got my first ticket last week . Not willing to dynamat / upgrade battery and alternator in my 95 saturn so I'm guna wait till I get a new car to upgrade my amp.

Common misconception I think a lot of people have is that subwoofers are only for rap. Subs are for everything! I mainly listen to rock/metal/country and the subs are what bring the music to a whole new level. My door speakers sound amazing to since they are on an amp and have crossovers ect but with out the bass it just isn't the same.

Also always make sure you're using the right size box. With the wrong box Rockford T1s are going to sound like the kid with the duals in the bandpass box.

Anyways, you don't want subs so none of the above really matters to you, just thought it might be useful to someone else.

Actually good full range speakers should reproduce the frequencies in the genres that you listed quite well. Unless country these days is dropping 30Hz basslines and I just didn't know about it.

I'm going to this annual car audio show thing tomorrow, hopefully I'll get some good insight into what some good sets are. If I find anything noteworthy I'll post it back here.

I have 2 ways in the doors so not good for bass. There's nothing like listening to Hallowed be thy name cover by Cradle that is going to even come close from full range speakers compared to 2 T1s!

I'd have T2s but Rangers seem to lack the room to build a big enough box

Yeah I drive a ranger too, so far I have not done anything to the sound, I don't really spend enough time driving to justify building a custom box to add subs and keep a usable cargo space. If my work was more than 5 minutes away I'd definitely be running some JLs in it though.

Well, just came back from the car audio show. Ending up buying a full system:

    Sub: JL CP110G-W1v2
    Rear Speakers: JL VR690-CXi
    Front Speakers: JL VR650-CSi
    Amp: JL G1300
    Deck: Pioneer DEH-P510UB

About CDN$1350. Still need to buy a 4-gauge amp wiring kit and pay for install.
