Aside from only carrying 2 weapons and having regenerating health... oh, and obscenely long load times, it's a typical Duke Nukem game.
The only reason to hate it is not being a fan of Duke Nukem in the first place.

I was already enjoying myself 2 seconds in when I started pissing. Good ol' Duke.

I downloaded it off demonoid to give it a try. It's not anywhere near worth 60bucks, but it's a fun game, and it's a Duke game. I don't see any major load times on the PC, and people who are bitching about this not being the next CoD or Halo, swallow a railroad spike, its mother fucking Duke Nukem..what did you expect? Even the first ones werent some pinnacle of gaming technology and innovation.

As said Duke Nukem is comprised of three things :Killing Aliens, Cheesy one-liners, and nude vidya game chicks. This game has all three. I mean, people who were expecting Halo, or Mass Effect type story-line, then you were not waiting for a Duke game... >.>

I don't think anyone was expecting that. They were just expecting a game that didn't suck.

I think it's about a 6/10 tbh. I think its worth picking up for around $40~. PS3 version did not seem so bad, load times were a little excessive, but I think they are better than the xbox versions (which is weird as xbox gets direct pc ports better normally). The game was everything I expected, don't know why people/sites are slamming it so hard. Honestly think everyone decided to bandwagon, and somehow thought a game in development for 12 years was going to revolutionize the genre.

It's not just personal taste though, there are things about DNF that are unmistakably bad. The reviews savaged it perhaps purely out of spite but almost all the defense of the game so far has been 'well your expectations were just too high.' This game doesn't exist in a vacuum. Within the span of a week, gamers are asked to vote with their dollars between DNF, Alice: Madness Returns (the correct answer for those keeping score), Child of Eden (tightly in 2nd place) and in a few days, the OoT remake for folks looking for a refreshing injection of nostalgia. DNF just shrinks in the face of what good games really look like.

Yeah I get it, it's Duke. I don't completely hate the game. But I understand why folks are out there telling others not to spend time or money on it. If you have to buy every FPS out there Duke will do, but if you like good video games...bleh.

PS3 version installs game to HD which is why the load times are a tiny bit shorter. On a side note, 360 port was botched. Rare instance where a game looks like crap on both consoles, but the PS3 one maintains a more consistant framerate.


Does anyone know if the retail Duke box for PC uses Steam or not? I'll be getting the game when it's cheap, but for something with as large a story behind it such as this, I'm considering getting a box copy instead, preferably if it ties in to my Steam account like some other titles.

Yes, the PC version does use steam. As soon as I put the disc in, it locked into my steam account.

the cracked version is just the directory downloaded, it runs from there
game doesnt run terribly well on the PC, and really shows that while it could have been a lot of fun, limiting you to 2 weapons isnt what duke is all about
