I would say that this might also be caused more by the fact that puberity is hitting children a lot earlier. Some 12 year olds are having sex because their hormones started raging at 9. That's way more wrong, imo, than Viagra adds that actually depict happy (presumably) married couples. The ads should probably be kept to later hours of the day or channels that are more adult oriented that kids shouldn't be watching.

One thing I feel ads for prescription drugs and/or medical procedures/devices has done is cause more dialog between patients and healthcare providers. That can only be a good thing even if it's someone asking for a drug they don't need. They are becoming less afraid of talking about these things and opening a pathway of communication which hopefully leads to better health.

I think the hours that are proposed aren't that bad really. I am sure ED medicine sellers would probably take no loss in sales.

Some kids stay up watching TV while their parents are sleeping and it still wouldn't matter if these commercials weren't aired. People are bombarded with messages of and about sex (depending on the show/magazine/etc.) It's disheartening when parents don't talk to their children early the moment those children are even close to (or starting to go through) puberty. If you don't talk to your kids about sex, someone else will.

Ya know, they say the problem is that they shouldn't be on when children are watching TV. The same case used against violence, drugs, and sex on TV alike.

Where oh where is the good old argument that the TV != Babysitter? Responsible parenting. I mean, its not like these commercials are in between Blue's clues and Dora the Explorer, they're usually making me want to hit the mute button during commercial breaks on my shows. TBH, there should be a bigger push back to "a la carte" TV programming that I was hearing a lot of noise over that seems to have dissapated away that way parents can pick channels that don't have these kinds of things.

Now, I only defend these commercials on a practical standpoint .... in terms of my biased opinion, I find those commercials annoyingly stupid (tbh this applys to pretty much all drug ads) and won't shed a tear if some go away.

On an unrelated note the network TV stations are REEEEEAALLLY getting on my nerves lately with this "volume alteration" bullcrap (I'm looking at you NBC and FOX). I'm always turning down my TV at night so I don't disrespect my neighbors (apartment) but it drives me insanse that the TV shows have to be set at volume level 45 when TV commercial volume needs to be at 18-24. FOX was so bad I had to put it at max of 100 for House this week (and it still sounded quiet) ... but when the commercials came on it was like a 747 crashed into my living room.

Is there a way to program a TV for automatically muting fox news?

They'll need to take off tampon and douche commercials too. Oh and underwear ads, beer commercials, everyone knows that plastic food containers cause cancer so they go.

I'm all for reducing ads on tv, means moar "Everyday Italian" with Giada.

Think of the upside here, if they start targeting people in the late night timeframe, those commercials might get "interesting".

The biggest problem I see with these commercials is the setting of false expectations:
If your experience lasts for more than 3 hours, call a doctor immediately.

Imagine having to explain that line to your particularly perceptive Little Johnny...

Well, you can't have the kind of sex where you don't know if you're gonna live through the next nut if you gotta stop after 3 hours.

The ultra-prudish, save-it-for-marriage types talk about how the first time is supposed to be some beautiful thing. I call bullshit. If both people are virgins, this is how it will go down.

It's the end of a long ass day of over-hyped wedding crap. The woman is especially drained and tired, the guy, despite himself, has been thinking all day about how he'd finally get laid that night. There may or may not be a little protest from the wife. Ultimately she'll probably want the lights out because she's been trained to be ashamed of her body.

They will disrobe. The guy will prod around a little, finally find the hole and in his excitement probably won't be wise enough to take it slow. I'll hurt like hell when he rams it all full speed into her virgin hole. She'll yelp. He'll be done in about 30 seconds and roll over to fall asleep. Meanwhile, she's over there, unsatisfied, thinking sex sucks, curled into fetal position crying in the corner.

Yeah... your first time is a beautiful thing made only more beautiful by the shared lack of any clue about what the fuck you're about to be doing.

They're raising an upcry about this, but just ignored those 'Bob' commercials for years? I found those more disturbing and wasn't surprised at the fact they were sued for scamming at all.

I think it's retarded to stop broadcasting these ads to "protect the children," but if this doesn't get thrown out or overturned at some point, I certainly won't miss them. Same goes for ads pertaining to douche, tampons, pads, toilet paper, pregnancy tests, birth control (especially those fucking Yaz commercials, jesus christ could you be any more annoying?), condoms, KY products, and probably a handful more products I just haven't thought of right now.

To be honest, it's just the content of the commercials -- the way that they have to be presented due to current censorship standards always makes them awkward bordering on gross, especially as it pertains to feminine hygiene products. Not to mention that whoever they are hiring to pitch this shit to women is about a thousand miles off base. The last thing on earth I want to see when I'm considering what ovulation monitor to buy is some fucking creepy-eyed woman who looks like she should be hanging out in Damien's nursery. If you've seen this commercial, you know what I mean.

Some of these commercials for women-specific products are just straight-up fucking offensive to me, like the birth control commercial where some bitch's "logical" side is consulting with her "emotional" side about selecting a birth control. What retard did they hire to make that masterpiece? What kind of emotional decision is there to make about the brand of birth control you take? I'll give you a hint: none. I can't decide what's worse, that commercial or the one for the "flexible ring" birth control that implies I'm too stupid or too irresponsible to remember to take a pill every day. It's a pill, I take this shit with my vitamins. In this day and age, just about everyone I know is on some daily medication, whether it's a vitamin or other supplement, antidepressant, or other health condition-related medication. Putting it out there that it's difficult for women to remember a fucking pill is as insulting as the Barbie that used to say "Math is hard" when you pulled the string. Shit's not hard; stop promoting laziness and irresponsibility.
