According to GSC myth, the three hounds were revived by Ho-oh after the fire in the Brass/Burned Tower. They weren't quite on the same level as Ho-oh/Lugia, more like Mercury to Ho-oh and Lugia's Jupiter.

Legendary Birds/Dogs/Regis/ are all sort of underlings or guardians of the god-like Pokemon.

Pixies < Palkia/Dialga/Giratina < Areceus

Personally the reason I enjoyed Gold/Silver so much was the world seemed so established there. They had the mythology for Lugia/Ho-oh/Dogs/Celebi in there cool, interesting places to visit.
They have sorta repeated this for all the following games, but when I played Gold/Silver after playing through Blue version, it was 1000x better, blew my mind!
Sadly all the following games have only been slightly improved so I think that's why Gold/Silver left such an impression on me and so many others. =)

I've been wanting a Typhlosion and Feraligatr so bad in 4th gen (only way to get was via Emerald or stinky GC/Wii transfers).

This was easily the best generation too, not to menton it introduced the ultimate badass Tyrannitar.

Yeah, it was the greatest idea ever put into a pokemon game. Imagine how fucking sweet it would be if they just made a damn game where you could visit all the regions. I admit it'd be hard to configure properly but the idea of adding a second region was just awesome back then.

I know it's asking for a lot since the game tries to cater to kids as well but I hope they raise the difficulty again. I did notice a nice change in platinum but I'd like some "hard zone" with mixed trainers that actually have a decent AI. I remember a Battle Tower in one of the games but I also remember that stupid Level 50/100 cap so it was kind of annoying if you were stuck in between.
