Pikachu yes, but as for Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander, Professor Oak gives you a choice of one of them when you go to talk to him (can't recall if you need all 16 badges or the fight with Red done), and that's it.

There's also a guy in the Silph Co. building that gives you a choice of one of the three Ruby/Sapphire starters as well. (Again, think you need to beat Red for this, but it might just be all 16 badges.)

Formatted much nicer and seems to have better info at times compared to Serebii. Between Smogon and Bulbapedia they cover all my needs. I use Smogon to get a feel for what the best movesets and natures would be for certain poke.

I'd say Smogon for movesets and the like, Serebii for general info. Serebii has info laid out better than Bulbapedia, the latter seems to just have too much shit that no one really cares about on a Pokemon's entry and feels generally cluttered to me.

Eh I don't see the use for volt tackle. Shit takes away your HP (which is really bad generally for a pikachu/Raichu) and it based on Atk due to physical base. Better to have a pikachu w/light ball and thunderbolt!

I have a lv11 shiny charmander but I used unnecessary means to obtain it. If you want it sets. I also have a lv46 charizard(using currently) that's shiny,with the virus.

The virus doesn't seem to apply in HG/SS whatsoever, it appears that trading any pokemon over that's infected with it causes it to immediately recover.

I'm not quite sure what the thought process behind it was, but I can only imagine it was something like not wanting to introduce a R/S/E and D/P/Pt element into the metal generation. Which doesn't make any sense, because HG/SS are literally the metal generation brought up to D/P/Pt standards.

The original G/S/C had Pokerus as well. The only generation that didn't was gen 1. I think I remember reading at some point in time that your pokemon would be cured if trading between certain games. Can't find a source for that now that I look, but I'll pay attention to it once I dive into HG+SS which finally arrived today (amazon delays yay) \o/. I don't have a link cable so can't test if trading between like say Leaf Green and Sapphire would cure it or not. It might just cure them when traded to different regions like from Kanto to Sinnoh which would explain why D/P/Pt trading didn't cure it. If it does though I would imagine they did it to "try" and make it harder to spread it around in new games. Pointless in the end though thanks to pokesav/AR and the GTS.

Edit: I have two boxes of legit Riolu's that have been bred by me the last few days. If anyone wants one shoot me a PM and we can set up a time. Would feel like a waste to release them so figured I'd offer them here. ^^

This is one of those games I really recommend buying especially if you pre-ordered because then you got the pokewalker, the game, and a kick ass Kaiyodo figure all for <$35 shipped if you went through amazon. Even without the figure though it's still a great deal for $30. Don't buy the strategy guide in stores either though as you can get both for $4 more total on amazon vs buying one of the two in stores. Yes, there are two guides - one for Johto, and one for Kanto which will be released soon.

lol, figures, just did the math on IVs on my Giratina and it has a perfect IV in HP and attack. Only problem is it's a Bold nature and being setup as a special sweeper. The perfect HP IV is nice, but gdi all the same.

Curious if anyone could help as I've only been breeding for nature/shiny up until now, and have zero experience with egg moves.

I'm trying to breed for an egg move (Crunch) on my Riolu, and I get I need a female Riolu and a male w/e (Luxray probably for me) that knows Crunch and can pass it down to have a baby Riolu hatch with Crunch, but after I have a male Riolu with Crunch can I then breed that one with a Ditto, and pass on Crunch to the offspring? It would make things a whole lot easier as far as getting good IV's/Nature/Ability and the extra chance at shininess if I can make a male Riolu with Crunch mate with Ditto. Thanks in advance for the help. ^^/

Edit @ Ratatapa: I try to catch them all to complete the Pokedex, but only bother getting good natures/abilities and level the ones that I personally find appealing/fun to use.
