Hey all, I'm kind of new to the whole EV training deal. I've done some research but I still have a couple questions.

1.) If I have a pokemon in front of my party and switch it out for a stronger pokemon to kill (in Elite 4 grinding, for example), does the pokemon I switched out get EVs? I think it works that way with Exp. share, but wasn't sure if the same applied to just switching.

2.) On my lv2 Lucario, I used 10 Calcium/ 10 Carbos for sp. att and speed. Could anyone elaborate on how many EVs that would be? Furthermore, how many gastly/zubat would I need to kill to get max sp. att and speed, assuming the 10 calcium/carbos have been added?

EDIT: Nvm, caught up with the thread and I think question 1 is answered (I receive EVs as long as the pokemon gets exp.), but clarification on number two would be lovely <3

Yes the switched out poke would still get EV as long as it got EXP. EXP share will also give the pokemon EV's as well so you have to be careful using EXP Shares that you don't accidentally EV train something incorrectly.

As for your second question 10 vitamins would be 100 EV's which would be the maximum a vitamin can give, and after that you would need 152 to get maximum boost in a stat (255 is cap, but 3 poitns are wasted since it takes 4 points to get a stat boost of +1, therefore 252 is the smart choice - that makes an ideal spread of like 252 252 6). If you don't have pokerus you need to kill 152 of Gastly/Zubat to cap them at this point as both of those mobs give 1 EV each. Adjust appropriately if you have virus/power items.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah I got the pokerus, I've killed 60 gastly/zubat each, seeing +14 special attack on a level up is crazy. I need to reset my EVs still, thought I could just pick the berries later, but I guess my "mom" needs to save my money.

Sure np! @60 kills with pokerus on each kill then you should just need 16 of each to be finished then. You can get the berries given to you if you save in front of the "daily berry people" idk their name, and just soft-reset if they don't give you one of the EV reducing variety. You can also soft-reset at the masseuse to try for a better "found" fashion accessory for what it's worth as well as soft reset at the newspaper for both different requested pokemon or saving after you've been given a requested pokemon you can soft-reset for different pokeball rewards (I like soft-resetting for dusk/timer/luxury balls personally). I just wish you could soft-reset the lottery! :(

Sometimes I almost hate knowing about EV's cause I can't just play with a pokemon anymore it drives me crazy to level it without making sure it's EV's are set right lol. Freaking perfectionism...

Sure, that'd be fine. Even if it needs work, you can just breed Phione with Ditto to get more Phione if I'm not mistaken.
