Yeah, so I caved in and bought Heart Gold. Should arrive next week. I need another DS so I can transfer my legends from Pearl to Heart Gold.
And hopefully Nintendo will actually give some unobtainable legends on WiFi this time around. I don't know it they still host Pokemon events here, but even if they would, I probably wouldn't attend. I remember when I was younger I waited in a line for like 2-3 hours to get Mew on my Pokemon Red to complete my Pokedex. I think I'd be too embarrassed to wait in a line with kids to get Darkrai or something. :D

I'd never resort to using PokeSav to get any pokemons or TMs, but I gotta admit that I had some shifty event Pokemons on my Pearl, all of which I deleted however. And by shifty I mean some of them were probably duped. I know most people don't have problem with duped pokemons, as technically they are still legit, but I'd rather have only non-duped Pokemons.

I had a couple of pokemon given to me that were hacked, and I had no motivation whatsoever to even bother with them.

Also going to events at TRU and GS isn't that bad. I've been to most. You don't wait in line. You just stand around, connect to the wifi, get gift, and leave. If you parked in front of a gamestop you could probably still get connection from outside and do it there. But at most events, I've seen more people my age (20s) getting the event pokemon rather than little kids.

Also, all you guys having trouble on gym leaders, do you have a snorlax????? Probably not or you wouldn't be getting pwned.

If you have to wait in a line for a Mystery Gift I'd be super surprised. For both the latest events I literally just walked up to the Game Stop door and hit receive then walked away. Never even had to go inside the store, and didn't see anyone else there trying to get the event (granted I live in the south and not a big city). Besides, there is no need to be embarrassed about it. =)

I'm hoping Nintendo has learned that people can't make it to places like Toys R Us always (closest to me is 1hr away). They distributed the Shiny Pichu over Nintendo WFC (any internet connection will due, not having to go to a certain place to receive it). Hopefully they continue this trend with future distributions. I have no problem with letting the stores have a month exclusive period prior to Nintendo WFC distribution just as long as the events actually make it to Nintendo WFC. I'm sure most people would probably agree.

God I hate lance and his Aerodactyl its fast and has moves that one shot all my pokemon. Crunch destroys starmie and Allakzham, thunder fang destroys feraligator and blastoise and togekiss, rock slide kills growlithe, got lucky with a quick fang surf from blastoise to finish it off but then his dragonite took me out with outrage. I guess I need more lvls.

Woot! Finally managed to save right before picking up an egg that had an Adamant Inner Focus w/ Crunch Riolu! That only took me... two days? I'm so glad it was mentioned earlier about that soft-reset method to get an IV spread you want while locking down nature+ability. Wish I could get Bullet Punch too cause ExtremeSpeed's 5~8pp kills me, but oh well.

I could be wrong, but the way shiny is calculated normally (not sure how egg IV's may screw with this) there is a value assigned for the nature, gender, ability, and IV's and are lined up and the last 3 digits chopped off like this:

Random numbers cause I can't remember everything about it, but the basic principle was that if the columns on the left added up ended up with an all even number then the pokemon was shiny, and the odds of this were the 1/8000 something number that is always quoted. This is how it was changed to work in Gen IV (might have been in Gen III too idr).

Since you can soft reset for different IV's then that would usually mean another chance at shiny because the IV's might line up to make the number be even. Which means that you could lock in the perfect Nature, Ability, and Gender and keep SRing for shiny that way your shiny could only have bad IV's in the worst case. I know egg IV's are all weird though and overwrite themselves so not sure how it would work in the end. Just something to think about until someone who knows more than me can confirm/deny it would work. ^_^

lol too much of a headache trying to figure out all that. I don't care too much about shiny its just a nice goal to aim for, and I get the rest of the easier stuff done in the process (like getting good natured Riolu's with good stats/ability etc).

Ah, that's cool. Yeah, I didn't know how they distributed event pokemons these days because back in the day they just connected your gamecart to a machine that uploaded the event pokemon to your save file.

When I started playing Pearl I just traded with fellow BGers and didn't even think to look up info about the events. But that actually sounds kinda nice, have to see if my local GameStop is holding these events in the future.

Also, it just occured to me that there probably are a lot of older Pokemon fans now, seeing as how fans of the original Red/Blue/Yellow are adults now. :D

The only rule that seems really lame is the pokeball rule. You don't find enough pokeballs for that to even work... you'd have like 6 maybe and you'd waste them all on one pokemon most likely and the ball failing.
