UU is a tier below OU which is Overused (the highest tier allowable in competition while "Ubers" are banned). UU is considered to be just as good as OU competitively but not quite as efficient. Hard to explain really... UU builds against others seem more fun to me than seeing the same OUs everywhere.
http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/ What ^ said. Just what some people classify pokemon as when doing competitive battling.
Oh okay, I get it. Interesting, I'll have to read the link over too, thanks Sam.
You know I haven't really considered competitive battling yet, I just like using the pokemon I like for playing the game itself. I have yet to actually fight any of my friends who have the game yet.
My pearl version probably has the most unusual assortment. HG is mostly my happy fun time team from red with some new ones mixed in.
Just wanted to throw out there on the topic of Rapid Spin that Claydol is an amazing rapid spinner since he has resistance to Stealth Rock damage and, with Levitate, avoids both forms of spikes not to mention a pretty good general wall.
Never under estimate Stealth Rock's damage even if they don't have a weakness to it. It destroys Focus Sash users which are important on some of the more fragile pokémon (Weevile) or those that need another turn to set up (Rock Polish users or those wanting to activate a Berry that don't have access to Endure or Substitute I suppose)
Focus Sash ung. With so many weather teams around it gets destroyed regardless of spikes/SR.
Well, the most popular ones tend to be Rain Dance and Sandstorm. Ice is ok but is way behind these other teams (100% Blizzard is fun though). Rain Dance doesn't do damage which just leaves Sandstorm.
I won't lie and say Focus Sash is as common as it use to be but the ones with Focus Sash tend to be some of the more dangerous ones; freaking Weaviles...
Had many laughs giving Focus Sash to my Adamant Rampardos with Rock Polish sweeping many things until it met a priority move ._. Seeing as he was Rock-type, Sandstorm wasn't going to bother him if not help him survive with a bit more HP thanks to the special def+ from it. Hail is another story... and occasionally Rain Dance.
Rain Dance is far scarier than Sandstorm and is often the bane of many of my teams. Without it active though, for most teams, they are pretty dead weight. Difficult to stop the very common Electrode with its 140 base speed unless you really wanted to use Choice to outspeed it with a Taunt or Earthquake as a starter.
Not to mention there is always the occasional time where your opponent was prolly at 5% hp which could've been alleviated if Stealth Rock had been active. If you see your opponent switch to a Rapid Spinner switch in a Ghost since Rapid Spin is Normal XD I think Kangashkan is the only one who can hit Ghosts with Normal/Fighting (<3 Substitute + Focus Punch/Return/Sucker Punch)
Stupid moving i can't play alot latly![]()
Anyone know anything about Venomoth being any good? Its abilities look pretty nice tbh. any good TM for it?
Oh thanks for that haha Miltank is faster indeed but don't think it can learn Substitute/Focus Punch build, less hp too... but really good though my friend ran one and was a pretty good tank speed-wise compared to Snorlax
Eh... Butterfree is better because of Compound Eyes letting Sleep Powder/Stun Spore land 97.5% of the time. Abusing this in-game as I am completing it XD
But if you really want to use Venomoth, when in doubt, use Choice Specs and throw on Bug Buzz (STAB and strong) and Sludge Bomb (STAB and strong too with 30% poison chance). Other two moves I am not sure but pretty sure Smogon has something on him. Obviously with Tinted Lens too.
I wouldn't use Venomoth if you wanted a bug-type on your team. It's stats are pretty bad it will die to a good Eruption/Flamethrower and as the poster above said, Butterfree is a better choice but I still wouldn't recommend Butterfree either. Venomoth could probably serve as a Baton Passer with the bug skill that boosts all your stats. (Not sure what it's called)
I was just curious is Tinted Lens(nullifies the type disadvantages of user's "not very effective" moves: 1/2 damage turns into regular damage, 1/4 turns into 1/2 damage) could be abused with any powerful TMs. Paired with high sp.attack and quick claw could make bug buzz/psychic decent?

Just in case you do decide to try out Butter/Veno I thought those two links might help you out, Gorki. They list a bunch of movesets, base stats, which natures compliment said movesets better etc. Hope it helps.
One of my better mono teams is Bug (not sure why)
I would love to find a place for Butterfree in it but his speed is just below most leads... Focus Sash? lol
Shuckle (lead)
Heracross (sweep)
Forrtress (Rapid Spinner + Toxic Spikes)
Scizor (sweep)
Yanmega (so awesome imho)
Pinsir (sweep)
Edit: You've made me more curious about Venomoth now with Tinted Lens hmm... I am not sure how the damage is calculated in regards to "not very effective" with it. It would make damage as if it were normal? If so, throw in Psychic with Bug Buzz. Seeing Energy Ball as a choice makes me wonder about Sludge Bomb hmm... Not too thrilled with using sleep moves that isn't Spore/Yawn/Sleep Powder via Butterfree but the Hidden Power to counter Steel/Rock seems a good idea but which one is the question really since both cover well.
I'll give Venomoth a try just for kicks but as the above said Fire can eat up Bugs pretty well along with Stealth Rock so be weary of it and have a proper counter.
Yanmega has Tinted Lens, no?
I know late response but thanks Setsuko for the clarification. I'm going to be mass producing Gligars so if anyone wants one of a specific nature just post and I'll see what comes up. They won't have any egg moves but whatever.
It does but I use Speed Boost with Protect to scout for moves and Hypnosis (the only one I ever really use with this move lol). Air Slash for possible flinch, although I am not a fan of it not being 100% accuracy. Bug Buzz obviously STAB. Think the build is similar to the one on Smogon too. It gets ripped apart by Stealth Rock though which is where Forrtress comes in >>
Deadly bastard even though others favor his Baton Tossing counterpart Ninjask for obvious reasons.
Edit: I would like one actually Metah but chances are my router won't work with this until we get a new one. Heck, it is so old it was discontinued years ago...
Miltank actually *can* learn SubPunch lol Now, I'm not a really big fan of SubPunchers tbh- I used to use SubPunch on Gengar and T-Tar before the Physical/Special split, but as of this moment, the only time I really use it is on my Abomasnow lead for my Hail team.
Miltank walls are fun though- Milk Drink/Heal Bell combo is safer (imo) than Rest, STAB Return or Body Slam are epic when used in a Curse set, and they can learn Hammer Arm for those pesky T-Tars

Man I don't think I've used a single normal type post-Elite Four since original Silver Ursaring. Been meaning to try a lot of them out (togekiss, blissey, snorlax, stantler, kangaskhan), just never got around to it. Miltank is sounding pretty good too, hadn't looked into it before.
Man I've got so much stuff left that I want to play with, and I've already got 24 battle-ready(ish) pokemon on platinum...
