Actually, I think he was referring to the fact that a roaming Pokemon gets all it's values (IVs, shininess etc.) calculated when you first encounter it, so it's not really practical (or possible?) to try to SR roaming Pokemons.
I mean, you could save just before you encounter it the first time, but you would have to use repel trick to get the roamer to appear fast after each reset, and even then it would be slow.
Ah, that's right, forgot about that. For some reason I remembered that it was when you first encounter them.
I haven't tried to get any legendary shinys yet, seems like an awfully lot of work for a slight cosmetic change. 1/8192 chance to get the legendary to spawn in shiny form, that's a lot of SRing if you have crappy luck like me.
I still love shinys though, I just don't actively try to get them.
Depends on which shiny... mostly they are annoying to me because they make the battle last like 5 seconds longer when they come out and the shininess proceeds to occur.
I can't imagine trying to SR my way into a shiny legendary, I think I tried for a day once on Kyogre back in Sapphire and then said fuck it. The only time I'll SR on a legendary is to try for better IVs, but even then it's a crapshoot, because iirc Synchronize doesn't work on Legendaries, so it's nearly impossible to catch an "optimal" one.
Yeah, some people have either incredible luck, huge amount of patience, or both. The 1/8192 chance means that "on average" you will get a shiny legendary once out of 8192 tries, but since it's the same chance everytime you SR, you might do it over ten thousand times and you still won't see a shiny. I'd rather not even think about how much time it would take to SR over 8000 times.
Of course, if you are lucky, you might do it ten times and get a shiny, but like I said, I'm one of those people that would probably SR well over twenty thousand times and still not get a shiny.
I think a lot of shiny Pokemon look damn awful anyway. Do people really like them so much? There are exceptions of course. I'm not much of a Charizard fan but even I like the shiny black version.
Only shiny I have ever found was a Tentacool back in the original gold version.I have received a few shiny Pokemon in trades or from events like my shiny Milotic.
The problem with a lot of the shiny pokemon is that they're either that toxic ooze green or bright purple. Those just originated from the original Gameboy Color's limited color palette and wanting them to look extreme, but they made some horrible color choices.
There are some nifty looking ones though (Gallade, Metagross, Charizard, to name a few). I never managed to break Charizard's hold on me from when I was younger and playing Red/Blue, it's just a good thing that he's still moderately useful if you can clear the field of Stealth Rock.
Don't forget about Steelix! Steel types are so pimp as shinys. :D

Edit: Oh, I just remembered something, didn't want to double post. The original (2nd gen) shiny colors were actually different from the ones that Game Freak has used since 3rd Gen. For example, if I remember correctly, Oddish had golden leaves instead of green. Since 3rd gen Oddish has been completely green in it's shiny form.
I hate voltorb flip
I've been in this room for so long, haven't left since I got here, accumulated like 18k coins so far lol.
I think I'm gonna stop at 22k, get dratini and 2 tms, and gtfo. Thing is, which ones should I get? D:
My ingame team is going to be Electabuzz, Magmar, Totodile evo, Dratini, Kangaskhan, and Crobat.
Electabuzz and Magmar I think are going to be physical, but learn the special version of those moves anyway, Kangaskhan is also physical. I could teach Totodile ice beam, but he should be learning ice fang soon. So I guess my only real choice is either save the coins, or teach Dratini one of those 2 moves? Dragonite has a way higher attack than special attack(and dragon dance!), but the type coverage should help since dratini wont be getting any good moves for a while, and it's only an ingame team? but then idk which of the 3 attacks to get, unless I stay in here for another 10k >_>
edit: Could also use heart scales (if ss/hg have such an npc) to get fire/thunder punch on him.. meh
Mix Dragonite is pretty good but if you're going to use Dragon Dance you prolly should stick to more physically based.
Whats a good electric type pokemon to use? Right now I'm mainly using Gyarados and Quilava, and training other pokemon to evolve for the pokedex. I want to get a Dratini to train at some point, and I was planning on Pikachu until I read the last few posts lol.
I'm not hardcore into the wi-fi battles, so it'd be just for the game right now. Reading all this stuff about perfect IVs and EV training makes me want to stay away from it until I beat the game.
So finally finishing up Platinum, and wondering in Distortion World will Dusk Balls work all the time? Looks sorta like a cave to me. If not I can just wait till tonight to catch Giratina, but rather be working on it now if I can. Only have I think 30 Ultra Balls since Dusk are so much better (got 70 of those). May end up having to use Masterball anyway cause my team is waaaaaaaaay under leveled, and false swipe won't work. >.>
so i got my Wireless Access Point thing in the mail today, little WIFI link USB contraption needless to say installing this thing is a HUGE pain in my ass i cant get it to work with sharing the connection. anyone have one of these/have any advice on getting this damn thing to work?
The Wifi thing posted a couple of pages back is doing a giveaway of the Toys R Us Arceus right now. Here's the set-up info again for anyone who didn't see it the first time:
1. Start up your copy of Pokemon on you Nintendo DS. Any Gen. IV will work.
2. Got to NINTENDO WIFI CONNECTION SETTINGS
3. Edit the setting for your current connection
4. Set AUTO OBTAIN DNS to NO
5. Set PRIMARY DNS to 99.41.98.43
6. Save your settings
7. Go to the GTS in-game, make sure you have 6 pokemon in your party
8. If it doesn't work, you either don't have 6 pokemon, or the server is busy, and you'll have to try again soon.
9. When you connect you should get your pokemon automatically
10. Disconnect from the GTS and enjoy.
old but goood

) Smeargle's Baton Pass attack switchs Pokemon while keeping the stat changes. For instance, any attack or speed raises Smeargle got Magikarp now inherited.
2) In the beginning, I let him hit me so that my Focus Sash could kick in, leaving me at 1 HP. Flail is an attack that does more damage depending on the HP of the attacker. When Magikarp has 1 HP, Flail has a base power of 200, almost as much as Explosion!
3) Belly Drum quadruples the attack of a Pokemon at the cost of half your life. Combined with Substitute, Smeargle is left with 25% of his life and therefore activiates his Salac Berry, which provides a 50% boost to speed.
4) When Smeargle Baton Passes into Magikarp, all of his stat changes are inherited by Magikarp. That brings our friend Magikarp to 388 speed and 520 attack! If that were not enough, Magikarp's ability, Swift Swim, makes his speed double in the rain to an even better 777!
5) The end result is an incredibly fast and strong Pokemon who can spam attacks nearly as powerful as Explosion against my opponent. Hence, the Magikarp sweep. Plus, there is nothing more embarrassing to losing to the long-time considered weakest Pokemon in the game, right?
