Has anyone had any luck breeding shinys with Masuda method? I've bred about 300 Pokemons now with the Masuda method, but I haven't had any luck. I don't breed just to get a shiny, it's more like an added bonus while I'm breeding battlers or Pokemons for trading. Well, it would be an added bonus if I didn't have a crappy luck I guess.

gengar with hp fire is a brutal scizor counter

actually anything that gets ohkoed by scizor but has more speed and can ohko him back is good, since they'll bring in scizor when somebody dies and then lose their scizor too

Got my first within 30 eggs, and my second after about another 300. Up to about 600ish eggs hatched so far, and all but a hundred are masuda method. So two shinies in ~500 eggs. Teddiursa and Mudkip.

Edit: Are you 100% sure that one of the parents is of a foreign language to your game?

Yes, it's a japanese Ditto, and it can't pass it's nature via Everstone if I breed it with one of my own Pokemons. It can pass it's nature with other Japanese Pokemons I have.
    I have a crappy luck.

Another double post, sorry, but I need to vent about something. Actually, I'm pretty sure I've ranted about this before in BG back when I still had my original forum account (Anderian): Hidden Power. This move is fucking stupid.
First of all, Smogon and other theorycrafters love to put this move on every special sweeper with a shallow move pool. Let's say Pokemon X can only get two types of attacks. No worries, you can still put Hidden Power (element) on it with 70 power and call it the best sweeper ever. Now, if all you are doing is playing ShoddyBattle or similar, this is all well and great. You can just say you have the 30/31 spread that the Pokemon needs to get the specific element with maximum power (70). But if you actually play the games, you know that can't just "get" Hidden Power of specific type. Anyone who actually tries to get a specific Hidden Power for their Pokemon has to be mental (hi!).
Which brings me to the reason I decided to rant about this; I decided to train a Magnezone. Anyone who has trained Magnezone, knows that not only does it have utterly shitty move pool, but it's also one of the Pokemons "blessed" with dual ability, and like all Pokemons with dual ability, the shitty one (Sturdy) seems to be the more common one. At least with my luck. I have done this once before, with Glaceon in Pearl. I did get the right Hidden Power, but with a very poor power (30-40 range). Getting Hidden Power of a the specific type you want with a good power is IMPOSSIBLE... unless you PokeSav of course.

tldr; Fuck Hidden Power. It should be removed from the game, or at the very least they should give the player the ability to give Pokemon Hidden Power of specific type instead of it relying on IVs.

Yeah Hidden Power blows. That's why I hate smogon and their shitty tiers. I'm glad it's not boosted by Technician.

I'm probably alone in this, but I would really love it if they normalized the stats a bit. It's crazy how some Pokemons have incredibly low stat pool even in their third form and a terrible typing on top of it. It would be nice if Pokemons with multiple resistances/immunities would have a bit weaker stats, and Pokemons with a lot of weaknesses would have a bit better stats. Sure, there would still be legendarys with great stats and typing, but it would be nice if we didn't have to create tiers in order to have level playing field.
I honestly don't even understand why some Pokemon need to have such vastly superior stat pool than others. All it does is create a need for all sorts of arbitrary rules when it comes to battling (and tournaments especially, but those usually have just afew rules; mainly no legendarys and no Double Team move).

Well there are several OU pokémon with the double weakness =x Not to mention it is also about the type of weaknesses they have how rare they are to begin with (hi2u Kingdra).

Tiers aren't going to disappear in most if not all competitive gaming. There will always be something to tier on or have some advantage than another. Although I am not sure why it matters because I thought no one here was playing competitively? I made an OU team to learn how they are played and to test against friends with their teams which aren't ever more than 1-2 OU at most and have had trouble against and even lost to them.

I agree about Hidden Power but the times I've tested it I never really NEEDED it it was just a backup-backup and didn't often SAVE me if ever. Not really worth the hell to get it with good IVs until they make it customable from a move-tutor or if you hacked.

Curious, what classifies as legendary? Stuff you can't breed? I never saw the Regis as legendary but someone I knew would say they were. I know the ones straight up legendary are majority of the others but I guess the Regis were the ones I was curious about the most (except Regigigas).

With so many pokémon out it isn't going to be a surprise there will be an imbalance somewhere. Fight for fun, fight with OU stuff, fight with UU rules, whichever.

Oh, keep Garchomp banned thanks. Yanmega for OU tier too!

Well, I'll start with the easy one; to me a legendary is a Pokemon which cannot breed.
I would battle competitively if I didn't know that most people either PokeSav their teams or just use pre-selected builds from Smogon or Serebii. Also, I'm a *bit* of a perfectionist as some of you might've noticed, so it takes a ridiculous amount of time for me to breed and train a Pokemon I'm comfortable using against other players. And if the moveset I selected turns out to be shit in actual use, it bums me out because it essentially means I wasted hours of my life to make a Pokemon that sucks.

And no, there isn't any specific reason why tiers couldn't completely go away. Currently they are there because there's a huge difference in stats (for a pretty extreme example, Butterfree has a base stat pool of 385, while Tyranitar has a base stat pool of 600), move pools and typing. Move pools are easy to change around, but the stats of all Pokemons would need to be normalized so that they would still have individuality, but not outrageous differences like the one I demonstrated.

Fighting for fun is kinda impossible unless you specificially negotiate rules. Or do you wanna pit your Butterfree against my Tyranitar, perhaps? Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not obsessed with winning or anything, but if I really used all of my favorite Pokemons, most of them fall under Never Used, so yeah, the fight might be fun but it will ultimately end up in my loss, if your favorite Pokemons happen to be Ubers or OUs.

Also, about the Hidden Power: you'd be suprised how many Special Sweepers *need* it in order to have a chance against their counters. Or, like in case of Magnezone, just need it because their move pool is too shallow otherwise.

My team is 100% non-hacked, all legitly bred (no hacked dittos claiming to still be legitly bred either). But I use garchomp which apparently is banned now or something? Well it wasn't when I put my team together, I don't see why people say its super amazing when it still dies like a bitch to anything that can take a hit.

Never really cared if someone used pre-select builds from Smogon because many of those tend to not know how to strategize during a fight such as switching in and revenge killing. Even if they did I still don't really care that is up to them and it may not always work right.

OU isn't impossible to beat as I mentioned earlier. You could be at a mionr disadvantage but you could still pull through since the types don't restrict the moves you get (as in bug don't only have bug obviously). Winning with mono teams is an attestment at that not counting other generic stuff (sandstorm, rain dance, non-mono in general etc). Butterfree vs a Tyrannitar? Don't be surprised if it doesn't always go your favor lol

Edit: Since I can't really explain Garchomp in words it is best if you check out the guy's earlier videos, the one with the magikarp beating the legendary guy's team, where he was even commenting on it as he was using it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply people here use hacked ones. I meant generally, if you look for battles in Pokemon forums (such as Serebii).

I don't really care if people use pre-select builds either, I just mean that generally it means you are going to be playing against same Pokemons over and over again which is boring (specific ones that everyone loves to use, for example I love Tyranitar, and I know a lot of other people do as well).

And yeah, if Butterfree could go up against Tyranitar without bullshit tricks (like Double Team spamming or something) there wouldn't be a reason to use tiering now would there?

And my main concern is that the strategic depth is being essentially sucked out of the game by the fact that some combos and moves are so overpowered compared to others. I know there's still room for diversity, but it still seems like options for "good teams" are narrowing instead of widening, if that makes any sense.

Honestly, the best I've ever seen was a level 50 competition.

They took tier ratings (might have been from something like Smogon, actually) and randomly gave people six-pokemon teams to work with. Two from each of the top three tiers, six eggs that they'd hatch on your system and check the stats on before releasing the cartridge for you to train them up. You got to pick the eggs from a box full of 20 each.

A week later, you brought your team in and played.

It was fun, and some completely unorthodox as hell teams showed up as a result. I think the winning team was two-thirds Water and Ground types, with a Jolteon and a frickin Bidoof.

It was. The entire metagame got tossed out the window for the competition, because people couldn't field net.team or the Ubers of the Week, since 1) they had no fucking clue what everyone else had, 2) Nobody could know WTF their opponents would do, especially since you wouldn't have the usual synergy, and 3) You had to build from what you had, and that meant some off-kilter move choices compared to the norm.

Only downside I see in that is that it's taking egg moves out of the equation, but it would be cool to do something similar via WiFi. Something like everyone breeding six Pokemon from different tiers (2 from NU, 2 from UU, 2 from OU) and then trading them one at a time with other participants for matching tier.

That was brought up when the original idea for the "three-tier-random" came up.

Was felt that not having them meant it was less likely for a lucky egg choice to end up with a tournament-breaking team- plus it would have been a fuckton more eggs to have to breed/store for each and every Pokemon. Natural moves + move tutors + TM/HM's was enough variety.

Yeah, I didn't think of it that way. I guess the whole competition is better off without egg moves.
But yeah, if there are enough people here interested in doing this, I'd be willing to organize this kinda event. I think we can all trust eachother enough so that we don't need to write down the teams (until after the competition, for fun), and if somebody gets a Pokemon with an egg move or from a wrong tier, they can just notify me and we'll replace it with a proper one. Winner would be rewarded with a shiny Pokemon to commemorate the event or something similar.
