For IV calculations of newborn level 1 pokemon, I just do a wifi battle with a friend and sync to level 100 and then plug those stats that I see into one of these calculators? Also, which one of those would be better, or is there a better one somewhere else?

For level 50+ Pokemons any calculator is fine, as you will get pretty accurate results anyway. I personally use Veekun's (http://old.veekun.com/dex/calculators/iv). If you are like me, and breed a ridiculous amounts of Pokemons (Skarmory took 3 generations to get a decent one, something like 70~ eggs) you probably won't be checking every Pokemon by WiFi battle. The method for checking multiple Pokemons IVs takes a bit more time and effort, but you can do it without using WiFi.
First of all, there's a man in Battle Tower (at least in HGSS, can't remember where the one in DPPt is) that can tell you rough estimates of your Pokemons IVs. Basically he will say something like "this Pokemon has decent potential", or "outstanding Potential", and he will also tell you the Pokemons best IV. For example, "I'd say this Pokemons best stat is Attack. It's fantastic (25~30*)/can't be better(31)". It's good to check out a lot of Pokemons this way so you won't end up wasting time checking IVs of Pokemons that don't have at least one 31 IV.
Now, when you've found some Pokemons with either 31 IVs, or "superior/outstanding potential", you start feeding them Rare candies, writing down the stats, and then soft resetting.

It's the most accurate IV calculator out there, but it takes a lot of time to fill it out, and you need to have a good amount of rare candies.

This was very helpful, I met this person recently and had no idea what he was saying actually meant, and I was trying to breed some good pokemon IV's lately but found out I had no idea how to easily and accurately check IV's. My wireless router isn't compatible or some crap also, so wifi wasn't an option. Definitely going to give this method a try...just I only have like 12 rare candies to work with. That's not a problem, just means it will take a bit more time. The first 13 levels you can get with those 12 rare candies will give you a good overview of the IVs (depending on species and nature, you can get pretty accurate readings), and if you see that the calculator is telling that you have 20-31 in several stats, you can soft reset and go battle against any Pokemon, get 5-10 easy levels that way (just remember to count EVs you get this way) and then use rare candies again to get more accurate calculations. Just remember to SR after all that, nothing sucks more than wasting rare candies because you happened to save the game by mistake.

Oh, and ANOTHER one had 0 attack IV.

Psh, 70 is nothing. I have 136 Yanma eggs on Platinum and still don't even have nature I was looking for.

I need to release my massive amount of babies, really. I only have 1 box of random caught pokemon, 1 box of various pokemon I actually use, 1 mostly empty box reserved for legendaries (and a few overflow babies), and the other 12 boxes are completely full with random babies I bred. Was considering getting Pokemon Ranch and going for the Mew at 1000, but I heard it doesn't work with Platinum, only D/P.

So I just got my 16th badge, and Climb. What all does this enable me to do? I've seen a lot of areas where I need Climb and a nimch of areas that needed 16 badges. Anyone have some kind of list? Or just know?

I know, I got frustrated with Skarmory's double ability so I kinda gave up. The one I settle with had a pretty poor spread, but decent defense IVs and 31 Attack.
But still, 136, and not even one of the nature you are looking for? You have worse luck than me. :D

Happy I could help. Most of my battling Pokemons are "relatively superior", I have a few "outstanding potential" ones too, but they take really, REALLY long to get. You need the both parents to have at least two 30/31 IVs (technically you could get one even if only one parent had one decent stat, but it's unlikely), preferably more, and a lot of luck. Also, even if you luck out and get an "outstanding" one, the IV spread might still be screwed. Good example of this is my Heracross: he has 31 in two IVs, 27-30 in other three, and 16 in Attack.

That's about it, aside from reaching one of the trees that can be headbutted for a specific pokemon, and some items that you'll probably never use scattered around. Maybe Articuno too, but for the life of me I can't remember if Seafoam Islands actually needed Rock Climb, or if it was just for the purpose of picking up extra items.

I fought at level 42 all around using X items and I was fine. Came close on the Dark trainer and Lance though. A Nasty Plotting Houndoom can and will destroy you. A good place to train is right there below the League, in Victory Road.

I was having this problem myself with my Misdreveous that had to be fathered by a Nasty Plot Spiritomb. Could not get Timid in 70 eggs. So I looked up the egg group, and went through all of my games until I found a Timid pokemon that could breed with Misdreveous. It was a male, so I brought it to SS and put an everstone on it. 6 Eggs later I get a female Timid Misdreveous. I couple that with my Nasty Plot Spirittomb. Sure enough, 4 out of the first 5 eggs were Timid and had nasty plot. The 4th one even had a great IV spread and 30 speed to boot. HGSS's addition of father-everstone has made nature hunting SO much easier. Give it a try!

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to ask... The Masuda Method works in Pearl right? That is where I am doing most of my breeding and wanted to make sure it wasn't a Platinum/HGSS thing before I started the long journey to get my shiny Kabuto. Thanks! I have a Japanese ditto and a HG English Kaubto... am I doing it right or does it have to be a Pearl kabuto? Any other advice about the Masuda method?

Yup, only problem is dual ability Pokemons. Abilities are pretty much 50/50 spread just like nature when you use Everstone, but somehow I keep getting right nature/wrong ability, wrong nature/right ability combinations most of the time. I mean sure, statistically, when using Everstone with a dual ability Pokemon, only 1/4 of the Pokemons you breed are gonna have the right Nature/Ability combo, but it's still frustrating as hell to keep getting either wrong nature, wrong ability or both.

No, Masuda method was introduced in HGSS.

Edit: Actually, disregard that. I remember reading that it was introduced in HGSS but some sources say it works in DPPt. Have to look it up.
Edit2: Yeah, Masuda method should work in every Gen IV game, I'm not sure where I read from that it was introduced in HGSS, sorry about that.
