as far as Sandslash.. I've never been a big fan of him. I always try to use them as I go through the game, though I end up running into a better ground type later on D:

nidoking is pretty beastly, nothing amazing but he has a good mix of special and physical so he's kinda hard to deal with. awesome moves but shitty stats.

sandslash is kinda meh for a ground type. he's good but not great. donphan is generally better (or gliscor if you just care about the lightning immunity)

Nidoking is alright but...

Gliscor is bosssss, so is Swampert and Gastrodon, Hippowdon and Mamoswine are great too for ground.

Some suggestions:
I'm gonna guess and say the Gyarados is the one you catch from Lake Rage? If this is the case, I would say stick with Feraligator solely because it will have accumulated more EVs over time and will be a good bit stronger than the Gyarados when set up propperly.

... lol I don't recall EVER EV training during story mode (especially for before beating the game entirely) and even so Gyarados just packs more punch and speed overall. Intimidate is nice to have occasionally too.

Donphan is superior to Sandslash in every single stat but speed.

Nidoking is a champ if you use him right, his type coverage is amazing, and if you abuse him to the fullest with a mixed sweeping moveset he can trample things with ease.

Because noone uses Jynx?

Magmar evolves when traded with a Magmarizer on, you have to grind wild Magmars to get one.

Electabuzz evolves when traded with a Electirizer on, which drop off wild Elekids.

There's a Magmarizer sitting on the remnants of Cinnabar iirc, there's an Electrizer laying around somewhere too but I can't recall where it is.

I'm not a fan of of Sandslash because it doesn't learn Earthquake naturally. I tend to stray away from Nidoking a bit mostly due to its very common weaknesses (Ground, Water, Psychic, and Ice), but I could say the same thing about a lot of pokemon that I use frequently.

Let me rephrase lol- I meant NATURALLY accumulate EVs, so like when you first go from new bark town to cherrygrove city and your starter is your only pokemon, you're unless you run away from every pokemon you meet, they're getting EVs before you can even catch others. Since you've had your starter since level 5, and you catch the Gyarados at 30ish, your starter will have better stats until the Gyarados catches up EV wise.

And yes, intimidate is epic lol.

Sad but true statement. I usually like to keep at least one psychic-type move for STAB on things that may not resist or have a weakness from other moves. But the days of me using psychic-like moves/pokémon has decreased considerably since Dark came about.

Granted, I still keep a couple. Gallade (Psycho Cut), Gardevoir (Psychic), Metagross (no psychic-type move though). I had these three together in my original team but seeing things like Weavile outspeeding them and using Night Slash quickly puts these out of commission (Focus Sash giving it more survivability unless Stealth Rock was out) so I try to seperate them when I can.

While Dark types wall Psychic pokemon (Umbreon especially) carrying only STAB moves or BoltBeam combos, often times they also have Focus Blast to use as a counter for them. That, and one of the primary reasons Mewtwo uses Aura Sphere is because its a guaranteed hit with 90 base damage but it will only out speed Darkrai (only Dark based Uber) with a Scarf.

Do eet, its a great handheld system~ more durable then PSP >_> I know this because while working at UPS, my DS was always in my pocket never got damaged while lifting heavy packages, but when I decided fuck bringing the iPod and brought my PSP and had it in my pocket, shit got destroyed and to give you an idea of the abuse, I'm talking about 60-120lbs packages being lifted up having to be propped up on mid thigh first before lifting over your head or above waist level (yeah that's against all safety regulations at UPS but it makes the walls look good! and it injures the un-loaders :D)
