    MMM duo/trio tips

    Hey there,

I have returned to FFXI forr the millionth time, and while I am still strapped for time (hence the sporatic subsciption rate), I do find time to get on nightly for 2-3 hours. I play mainly with my bro. I have a lvl 65whm, and a 54smn, some other jobs too, but nothing else past 30. He is lvling thf, and is currently at 51.

In trying to find ways to grind out exp solo, while not constantly relying on FoV, and it can get boring, I thought about trying out MMM. I just want to get his thf to 60 so he could maybe lvl some in Campaign.

Anyhow, we went in twice last night. First time was our first time, so I was 65 whm and I had him go 10blu just so we could get a feel for exactly what it was like. No exp there of course (but 8 marbles!).

Having a feel for it, we went in again, this time as 54smn, 51thf. The maze had Coerl (don't know the sencond mob, didn't get that far), which took maybe 5 min to duo one. Knowing that we'd never make it in time, and the next pull being certain to link 4, we compassed out.

So my question would be, what are some good ways to collect some marbles and maybe some exp as a duo or trio in MMM so we can get some new runes to make a duo more feasible (such as tiny warrior, the exp boost, other things to make it a tad easier)?

My bro has some lvl 30 jobs such as WAR and DNC and NIN that I could sync down to as well.....just kinda confused as to how to get a decent setup for this. (I know I know, we simply just don't have the time to find people interested in doing MMM lower lvl.....or at least we can't rely on this as our playtime is sporatic sometimes).

Btw, we did get a dragon rune drop the first run, which was a maze populated by scorpions and I think those things in the meadows.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!!!

One way to improve easily is to use the runes that you guys are strong to. i.e. make all the monsters a type that a) you have an advantage against and b) don't have nasty skills/aoe's. An example is birds (weak to piercing), on my dragoon. Also, this gets rid of the possibility of you spawning an elemental map... high def = thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass.

Until you get those runes though, a good way to get marbles is set up nightly pick-up MMM runs with your LS. My old LS had 3~6 people every night, once people got into it we had 12 so we just made two parties. Keep in mind that the mobs are sync'd to the lowest member of the party, so plan accordingly. When we would farm marbles we'd go for quick and easy, sync to a lv ~10 job and just clear all the mobs with 75 BLU or something. 8~15 marbles * 6 is great. Also, there exist runes that increase your drop rate on marbles given certain conditions, etc., so look those up.

Another thing to note is that you can learn blue magic from MMM mobs. Otherwise I wouldn't have Radiant Breath yet. Hope this helps... P.S. This is my first post!

Let me preface by saying that it takes a lot of time to get going in MMM, and MMM is really only proven for XP for merit parties and perhaps BST.
I personally think it is a very fun event so I am recommending you try it anyway, because after all you are playing a game and want to have fun, right?

It takes a while to build up marbles. Here are the common tactics for marble farming:

Bring one high level job and one level 1 job. Crush all the mobs for marbles. As you accumulate marbles over the days and weeks, buy and use the following runes to increase the number of marbles you get per run:

    101, 100, 102, 103, 104, 018, 017

I have listed them in the order of greatest benefit to least. 018 is near the end because it costs 300 marbles, and 017 is at the end because you can't buy it, it only comes from the crate at the end.

There is a system called CC points that allows you to get more marbles for minimal effort. If you wait 72 hours between MMM runs, you will build up 6 CC points (6 is the max amount possible). If you do an MMM run with 1 or more CC points, the person who hosted the run gets a second reward crate at the end of the run, containing extra marbles (more CCs = more marbles). Only the host can open the 2nd crate.

You'll actually accrue marbles slightly faster if you just spam the event every single day, but going every 72 hours is a lot less effort per marble. And just to clarify, you should each host a run every 72 hours. If you have mules in Jeuno, have the mules host runs every 72 hours as well.

Once you have tons of marbles, you can buy 094 which makes it possible for the increased XP rune 108 to drop. It is a rare drop and could take ages.

A couple of runes that make XP easier are the ones that lower the levels of the enemies (and also lower the marble rewards). Those are 019 and 020. They are like the opposite of 017 and 018.

You'll need a lot of perseverance to continue doing MMM until it pays off.

hmmm i got all these runes 101, 100, 102, 103, 104, 018, 017 but can only get up to 24 marbles, is there a way to tetris the rune in M01/voucher 1 to get more marbles? according to wiki you can get 46 marbles if you got all the runes 100-104, 18, 17. I have tried to set the runes in differ spot everytime i doing but still get 24 marbles

That combo used to reward 46 marbles. but due to recent ninja-nerf by Square, they drop it to 20++ marbles..

The rune setup you listed gave 46 marbles up until the April 9th patch, now it gives the 24 you've been seeing. People are investigating whether other vouchers like V06 might yield decent marble farming runs, but unless and until that pans out, it seems that 24/run is the most efficient way to get them now, even if it's half of what it used to be.

Technically it's not a "ninja" nerf since it was in the update notes, but yeah lol it sucks.

Anyway, you might be able to find a tail/earring setup on Duplidoc if you check for it after a couple days (people will need time to re-register their mazes after the maint). People put up their mazes for friends or to do extra runs for their own drops, and you can sometimes grab one to leech off of. Won't do much for you in the way of marbles, though, for your longterm MMM plans.
