What's wrong with Marlon? He's a good actor, it's his first action block buster's but he's had comedy and drama blockbusters before this, along with his whole family, they're all rich as hell! You haven't even watched the damn movie so you cant say it'll suck just because he's in it, unless you just hate a black person playing a white character role (Yes original Ripcord is white), but who gives a fuck, the movie's getting good reviews so far, and all of the cast has been going around the different shows and promoting it.

In the film, Ripcord is a new recruit to G.I. Joe, so he's suppose to act like a noob, and Marlon is a newbie to action films, so gtfo before you start saying bullshit.

Marlon also had to bulk up for the film, while Tatum had to tone down, and they became good friends, and Marlon even went to Tatum's wedding (he married his costar chick from Step Up recently). Now go see the movie, or you can go suck a dick and choke on it, while you sit there and judge someone negatively without seeing them first kkthxbai.

It was released to selected critics, who all said it was surprisingly good. They didn't want the bad press that Transformers got from critics who were overly harsh. I wish no studios would release movies to the press early 'cause you just get a bunch of idiots who don't know what real people really like, telling you what they feel. The whole idea of a "movie critic" is asinine. No two people are going to feel the same way about most movies. I usually take sites like rottentomatoes more seriously than I take Ebert because a general cross section of the populace is much more likely to be right than some dude who watches movies for a living.

But this is a flaw common to all bloggers, which is why I presume RT implemented their 'featured reviewers' filter feature which supposedly only picks the sincerest reviewers by reputation. Besides, this is a brainless summer action flick, so expectations of how good this will be are framed in that context. Reviewing movies like this is as simple as a checklist.

Does it have tits? yes/no
Does it have cool fights between ninjas? yes/no
Are the heros likable? yes/no
When you laugh at the script, is it a meanspirited laugh? yes/no

and so on. The bar can't be set that high.

I agree, the site is far from perfect. I just am so jaded by the general "film critic" now that I really don't pay any attention to them. Correction is 100% correct about judging movies based on what they are instead of holding every movie to the same standards.

I saw a clip on conan for this and I would expect the reviews to start dropping on RT soon. It seems a bit fishy that so few have reviewed it and its just 1-2 days away.

I thought when you go watch a movie with friends/girlfriends/wives, you're there to enjoy the god damn movie. Especially since you KNOW that the movie is going to have a lot of "oh shit it's snake eyes" moments. Especially since you know you wanna see Scarlette in all her red hair glory. Especially since you want to hear the shrill that Cobra makes when he talks. I will enjoy this because it was a cartoon when I was growing up and I always wanted to see them create a cartoon into a live-action cept "masters of the universe" with Dolph Lundgren ugh. But now since movie budgets are enormous, they can make w/e the fuck they want. I'll watch!

I agree, I love CC's voice in the old cartoon. But.. slight problem. The guy who did his voice.. Chris Latta, I think, died. Quite a while back too. It's a shame, I love that rough/scrappy voice he was capable of.

After reading the bad reviews on RT, it looks like the movie is being rated down for the exact reasons why fans of GI Joe would want to go see the movie.

What did you expect, Casablanca? The movie was incredibly entertaining. Action packed, humor, and it even laughed at itself.

Over at /Film there's an article asking what people thought of the film. This comment made me laugh:

This movie was terrible. It was like a Saturday morning cartoon. Channing Tatum is extremely unlikeable. Looking into his eyes on that big screen all I could see was doucheness and anti-charisma. The whole movie felt 'urrrck', lifeless and stale. The feeling you get standing in a dirty stinking alley while it's raining, and you're trying to eat a hamburger, but the rain is making the bread all soggy, and the rain is dripping down you're nose and you just want this terrible feeling to end - That's what seeing G.I Jo felt like.
