    So uh... (Recovering data)

I was trying to make a backup image of my Main C drive with my OSs

using Norton Ghost, I think I used the wrong settings and instead, Cloned the OS drive onto my Terrabyte(backup drive).

Now all my shit I backed up is gone...Can I use software recovery to get the shit back? also, it partitioned my fucking backup drive too....not sure if that makes a difference...

also What software to use? I used GETBACK ntfs before, not sure where i put it...

Software recovery usually operates off the fact that when you "delete" something it flags the space taken by the files as open. That's why you can recover files recently deleted if you don't waste time or get the space overwritten.

What you've unfortunately done is overwrite the data on your terabyte drive. Ker-splat.

Depending on how long you let ghost destroy the backup drive you may be able to recover what wasn't overwritten. If you let it complete, that's not good. It's like taping over the first few minutes of a VHS tape, where you've destroyed what was there but the rest is salvageable.

R-studio is good for data recovery. Can't say I've used it in your exact scenario.

Best of luck, and my condolences. I wish I could say there was some super expensive trick like Drive Savers, but the only way you can recover data that's been written over is wacky NSA shit involving magnetism differences (along those lines) to see if a 1 or a 0 used to be there (that's why you do 7+ pass for DoD)

R-Studio is your best bet, like Kriz said. If you're lucky, you won't have overwritten your backups, just 'hidden' them with a new partition.
