Miami is definitely the worst place in FL. Basically all of FL is bad, but Miami is insane.
El Paso is crazy too.
I'm a florida driver, I'm a bad driver, and most people here still scare me.
I'm from Maine (more importantly New England) and I'm now in Ohio.
Needless to say I'm constantly aggravated by the drivers here, it's like half of them are waiting to die while they drive around with their heads up their asses talking in some fresh air.
Don't get me wrong I'm not a bad driver, I'm actually quite good (albeit quite fast and I do break the speed limit on regular occasion) I just hate going like 5 under the speed limit or the fact that no one fucking uses a blinker around here, I mean is it so hard to push the little lever up or down? C'mon now.
I don't really care if people drive slow, as long as it's not right next to someone going slow also.
I mean seriously there are two freaking lanes if you're going to go slow side by side with someone you are just being an ignorant asshole. speed up for 5 seconds and get in the slow lane and let people who actually care about getting somewhere in life go by.
I know it is sort of a low blow, but handicapped people can't drive. It seems like 90% of the time that physical part also carries over to mental when on the road. We're talking going 45 in a 70 or making a dead stop to merge from a cloverleaf (when there is still over 100 yards left on the cloverleaf)
Also, people riding bikes on city streets annoy the hell out of me too. What happens when you have something going 15mph down a city street where everyone else is doing 45? The motorist in that lane has to either try to merge to the other lane where there is no room to merge. This could cause a sideswipe or the person has to slam on their brakes hard, which could very easily cause a pileup when they slow down from 45 to 15 out of the blue.
A slow moving vehicle is also virtually the same thing a lane closure too because everyone will eventually have to pass it (unless they plan to go 15) and therefore will have the road always bottleneck down one lane.
I wish I had the money to put up a "Stay the fuck off my road" billboard next to those "Share the road" billboards.
Those riders are doing it wrong, but there are some real self-righteous assholes who organize events (Critical Mass) where bikes just take over the streets and block 5pm rush hour traffic.
Riding on the sidewalk is illegal, so street riding and following the same rules as cars is really the only legally sound option. Not all places have bike paths to segregate the bike riders, and some of the paths are in relatively poor condition (Northampton-Amherst, MA; I've punctured two tubes just from glass on that trail).
DMV/DOT regs classify a bicycle as a moving vehicle, not a pedestrian device, so they're supposed to be on the road; if the cyclist is riding in the middle of the lane he's an asshole but really any decent road has more than enough space to pass a cyclist without causing him or the opposing traffic grief. Most cyclists with a brain know what roads are safe for this reason too, any road that doesn't have ample space for cars to go around you is usually avoided whenever possible because they know that a contest of a ton of steel vs 200lb of carbon and flesh is no contest at all.
Critical Mass can go fuck themselves, they're like PETA in terms of effective positive change and total obnoxiousness
I deal with bad drivers all day, comes with the job..... however, I just have one pet peeve.
DON'T BRAKE CHECK!!!
Usually i'm a asshole in the left lane of the highway, because I want to get home quicker...... but if your going 50 in the left lane, of a 70 MPH highway. DO NOT BRAKE CHECK THE PERSON RIDING YOUR ASS!
/end rant
Don't ride my ass then. I'll happily move when I can but your urge to drive recklessly in no way motivates me to get off. Generally if I'm in the left lane there's a good reason for it, I don't Left Lane Vigilante people.
PS- You flash your lights at me and you just guaranteed a slow ride home
Edit: Just noticed you said 50 in a 70, dear god those people can go die, I do the limit but seriously get people doing 70 in 50 zones alllllllll the time who think it's their god-given right to drive like a maniac and somehow find it impossible or *gasp* illegal to pass me on the right...you're already a moron, just pass me for crying out loud
Taxi drivers in any city are the worst. In Chicago it's just disgusting. There isn't a whole lot of stop and go traffic in the city except during peak times (morning/evening shift gridlock etc - applies to every city). Cars crossing lanes and cutting people off to hit lower Wacker etc.
As an avid left lane user, if someone in the left lane is going slower than me, I give them the benefit of the doubt and allow them ample time to merge. If it doesn't happen (i.e. middle/right lane wide open by this time) I pass them. I hate passing via middle/right lanes. I won't ride people's asses except assholes that cut into the small amount of space I'm leaving for the car originally in front of me. Even then it's only for like 15s..
Also, I can confirm that I-75/41 are terrible places to drive in Florida for someone that lived briefly in Naples and continued to visit Myers/Naples.
Well my rant was due to last night.
I drove home in a clearly unmarked police car. There was no mistaking this for a normal crown vic.
Lady was going 48-50 in a 70.... long line behind me, so she starts to brake check me multiple times. So I flashed my cruiser lights, and what does this genius do? Slam on her friggen brakes in the far left lane.
Thank god no one rear-ended anyone..... but you guys can understand the next course of action for this young lady -.-
Every time I go to Orlando or Miami I see like twelve accidents on the way there. Some people just can't drive for shit.
I live in a town in Florida where the majority of the people are over 70. I see old people driving 15mph on 41 all the fucking time. It used to take me 30mins to get to Fort Myers now it can take me anywhere from 45mins to an hour depending on how slow people want to fucking drive.
^pics nao
Okay... NJ drivers are really the worst. Up here in northern jersey I have encountered some of the absolute WORST drivers, those mainly being dumbass kids who just got their license (there seems to be absolutely no shortage to them..), or these fucking old people who do 15mph regardless where they are. I love driving on the highways because a lot of the morons cram into the left lane since they think its the fucking autobahn or something, and end up moving at like 20 mph cuz of the cram hahahaha. the side roads however are absolutely horrific, since thats where all the people that are "scared" to go on the highway are. I've had so many "almost" accidents the past years its kind of ridiculous, I wish I didn't have to drive, I only get pissed off when I do =.=
