Well my rant was due to last night.

I drove home in a clearly unmarked police car. There was no mistaking this for a normal crown vic.

Lady was going 48-50 in a 70.... long line behind me, so she starts to brake check me multiple times. So I flashed my cruiser lights, and what does this genius do? Slam on her friggen brakes in the far left lane.

Thank god no one rear-ended anyone..... but you guys can understand the next course of action for this young lady -.-

So would the correct action to do in this situation be to speed up and merge over if a cop is flashing high beams first?

OT: Just today going to school I was on Rt 30, and 2 different people turned on and merged across both lanes, which I'm sure is illegal, but they did it in from of me so I had to get around them. I've had worse, but I can't remember right now.

Never need to flash the highbeams, proper response would be to activate the lights.

Usually i'm a asshole in the left lane of the highway, because I want to get home quicker...... but if your going 50 in the left lane, of a 70 MPH highway. DO NOT BRAKE CHECK THE PERSON RIDING YOUR ASS!

Nor covered part of it. You also missed the fact that the person you hoped would get caught by police is, in fact, a police officer.

And you missed where as a police officer classed as a professional driver instead of pulling her for unsafe driving, decides to tailgate, police love to do this in hopes you will break the speed limit.

Also Officer it would be up to you to prove that there wasnt a reason to brake harshly and why you were so close to start with rather than the other way round in most educated places. She wasnt right for being so far under the speed limit in a fast lane but neither were you for being so close that her brake check should have bothered you.

You do not need to be tailgating to be brake checked. Good car length behind, and someone repeatably puts hard pressure on the brakes numerous times is break checking.

Did I ever claim to be tailgating this individual? Nope

To keep a honest opinion going, yes I was closer than I should have been.

Simply a pet peeve of mine, as driving un-marked cars on a daily basis I see this all the time. I also see the accidents that occur all the time, from brake checks. In which usually 90% of the time I respond to a accident that involves a "brake check" situation, both parties involved are written up for various violations.

You brake check someone, he/she slams into the back of you..... what do you do?

Claim a dog ran into the middle of the street? Hate to break it to you, but here in MA.... your expected to avoid via evasive moves, or hit the dog. Not slam on your brakes. It a sucky thing to deal with, but its illegal to slam on your brakes (here in MA) unless you are in a emergency situation that will cause bodily harm to another individual (person).

Oh, i've also had someone claim they had to slam on the brakes because a deer ran in front of them..... too bad none of the people who stopped to assist after the accident, remember seeing a large deer run into the middle of the street/highway.

So like I said.... brake checking = no one wins.

Speed has nothing to do with violating road safety. Riding someone's ass doesn't get anyone anywhere. The worst part of it? If you do get in an accident because of "brake checking", you are fucking everyone else over including yourself (and possible injury/death). So, it's a vicious circle that can be solved by both parties - but when one of them decides to pull stupid stunts, then you get nowhere.

People like you just need to get the fuck off the road and monitor the radios at the station.

I have never even heard of brake checking until this topic, that seems really unsafe (and way too blunt). I just usually let off the gas slightly if someone was riding my ass unnecessarily. If, for example, I'm doing 65 in a 55 and can't get back over to the right, someone riding my ass isn't going to magically get me to go faster. 65 wasn't good enough for you? How about 63? No dice? 61? 58? 56? etc. That always seems to work, and people usually get the point.

I occasionally follow up with 'Shave and a haircut' on my horn when they eventually do get to blow by going something insane like 90.

People have various opinions on the subject, and I do agree with you.

Actions by both parties are idiotic, including myself for following too close.
