Are black kids just dumber?

I hear constant excuses that the sole reason black kids lag behind all other races academically is because they are economically disadvantaged, and the schools are so poor in their areas that they can't possibly succeed. I've even heard this recently in Philadelphia, where the new school superintendent is lobbying to reallocate funds from the performing schools in the burbs to the failing ones in the city. Basically they want to take money from schools where the students excel, and send these funds to the schools where "students" run wild, assault their teachers, and basically waste everyone's time and money.

Anyway, I've started looking at different PA school districts in the process of deciding where to buy a house. On the PA state dept. of education website, you can pull up district report cards, and I've noticed, even in the most prestigious school districts, there is still a large achievement gap between the white/asian students and the blacks. For example, the state target for overall proficiency will be like 56%, the asians will be @ 98%, whites @ 96%, but the blacks are like 73%... I see this same discrepancy in district after district. These black kids are getting the same education and opportunity, why are they still lagging? Granted, a 73% proficiency rate for blacks is unbelievable if you compare to the inner-city schools, but why do they still lag their peers?

Black brain is structured differently from non-black brains.

Black brain has diminished dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the area that retrives memory for evaulation before executing it. The larger your dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the more memory you can retrieve and hold of at any given momenet. Black's DLPC doesn't have enough capacity to hold more than 2~3 second worth of movement scenario, basically a chimp level capacity.

This may not apply to where you live, but in my area, it is a general consensus that an education is not that important inside the black community. I live in a mostly minority populated neighborhood and I actually have asked one of our neighbors why so many of the kids on our street don't go to school. They basically said that at least in our neighborhood, a good chunk of the people are either on welfare, work menial jobs, or sell/do drugs. If you are raised in this kind of an environment, then education doesn't have as much of a value. Combine this with the pop-culture image of no education rap stars making money being idiots and you have a group of people who don't see the point in education. Frankly, I don't see much being taught here anyways. Right around the corner from where I live is gentrified yuppie-ville where the demographics are sharply different and the expectation is that everyone will go to college. That being said, I don't think it's really a "black" thing. The same problems are consistent here with Hispanics as well, though much of that could be blamed on a language barrier and the failure of our school system as a whole. Texas is only 6000 years old apparently...

I think kids either do well or poorly because of what society expects them to do. Environment effects people a lot more then you realize. But you should do is raise your children in a parallel dimension that doesn't have racism, Archie Bunker, Rev. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.

83% of people who sell crack are black. 92% of people who sell crystal meth are white. Bottom-line is that statistic's can be ridiculously skewed to favor a certain argument. It's a rosy way of ignoring other factors to take into account. Again, the point of this thread is?

I haven't heard any serious racism in this thread so far. Noone has yet claimed (seriously) that any race is inferior to any other. A statistical observation that certain groups of people perform at certain levels in relation to others isn't racist, it's just a fact. Frankly, I'm a little sick of the racism card being thrown out as much as it does in modern society. The idea that you can have a black fraternity with only black members, a hispanic fraternity with only hispanic members, an indian fraternity with only indian members, but you can't have an all white fraternity is stupid. I'm by no means advocating that there should be a white fraternity, I'm simply saying that many of the times the groups who claim to be racially segregated, do so of their own accord and with the same kind of bias as the people they complain about.
