Am I doing something wrong, Tomoe and penta is what give me the most reliable number on most monsters lately?

Depends what you use your sam for and what songs/rolls you have. If you have a big acc/atk advantage over what you're fighting, nothing can beat penta really.

Jinpu? Really? Never knew it could do 3k
Yeah Jinpu can be intense, I might have the SS laying around still, but I did ~3.3k on a Groundskeeper in sky waiting for Despot to not pop.

Also if geared right, it leaves a trail of destruction and crying widows in 60 cap ballista. (But ballista is dead etc, so that's sort of a null point.)

Might as well bump this instead of asking in random question thread. At what ratio should STR/atk generally be preferred? Ignoring acc, shura head vs. hissho hachimaki? AF+1 hands vs. o. kotes? etc.

Pretty much that, tempted to organize a WTB run for a Levy Couse, not like it's gonna be hard nowadays with everyone having 75 SMN

I really like Rana actually, and tend to use a lot on squishy mobs, for opening SCs and stuff. Sometimes you get a whiff and 1% tp return and shit, but overall with this setup I've been really pleased with Rana's numbers.

The only things that differ form my regular WS set are Byrnie +1, Myochin Kote +1, and Justice Torque. Very happy with the output.

Edit: I tried it out with Bandomusha Kote for a bit, and found the AF+1 hands better overall, i'd maybe I was just eyeballing it at the time, but still.

If you're concerned about the WS's overall consistency and damage and you use it on fairly evasive mobs without using sushi, there's a rather substantial lack of accuracy there in my opinion.

I'd use Haubergeon+1, Sea Gorget and a Potent Belt.

That's interesting. What subjob were you at the time and did you have any DA gear, because based on the stat mods of the weaponskill itself, 1400 sounds about right damage wise with Amano, capped fstr/pdif, and 3/3 hits. Roughly 460 dmg per hit, 2k Rana could have been from 2 double attacks.

For war you mean? For sam couse doesn't seem worth it compared to just using tomoe. You're trading 5 acc (well and 10 parrying 5 subtle blow) for 3 base dmg and 3 atk. For all that effort it's barely an upgrade, if an upgrade at all. If you really want to spend time increasing your sam polearm damage, go farm stones for love halberd and use that.

If I wanted anything from those shitty smn fights, it would be ifrit's bow.

That is pretty normal. Ascetics Fury I believe ignores a certain amount of the mobs defense. I tested this against robber crabs waiting for them to put up their defense buff (+100% defense) and then land a killing blow with Ascetics so that only 1 hit lands. Also tested with Defender up, and the difference between defense buffs and no buffs were very minimal if any at all. Due to the nature of H2H attack when you double attack with some criticals from the WS, you are likely to see 4 digit numbers easily. I've personally done 1300+ to dynamis mobs when double attack lands on the WS.

3 Base DMG is like 12 STR worth of fSTR.

Love Halberd is kinda shit on the ground that it doesn't have 5 hit build (or even 6 for that matter >_>) which is one of the bigger draw to use polearm.

Ifrit's bow is nice and all, but I prefer being able to swap around tiphia sting (black tanthlum if I ever get the spare cash) for TP, olibanum sachet for WS, and bibiki for defense, but to each his own I suppose.

Love Halberd is kinda better than tomoe on the grounds that I parse higher when using it, but hey that's just me.

Black talthum/o. sachet is probably better than just using ifrit's bow in situations where your acc isn't capped yeah, but no reason not to use it for zerg/2hr stuff, or on mobs where acc is capped. Main reason the bow is attractive thou imo is the ability to land status arrows/pull while keeping 3 STR in the range slot. As far as defense is concerned, proccing a demon arrow is going to reduce incoming damage a lot more than 4 VIT.

I used to use Love Halb before I got my Tomoe. Love destroys Engetsuto. Tomoe in my hands parses slightly higher, but not by a ridiculous amount.

What makes Love halb work is that has awesome DoT and that your penta avg really isn't that horrible. The DMG was pretty consistent at 950~ with spikes up to 1500 instead of 1300 w/ spikes up in the 2.5k's.

I actually haven't parsed the difference since I changed my Polearm gear a bit.. I might wanna go do that

As soon as SAM an ability that lets them fire an arrow instantly with 100% accuracy the moment I needed to switch to defensive gear, I'll agree with your assessment.

In the mean time, I'll just use the lolvit as it's better than nothing when hitting the ohshit defensive macro, that and shooting a mob until attack down lands and maintaining it is just isn't feasible on most if not all situation. But yeah, shit probably doesn't matter either way. Also, you're making it as if you'd actually cap ACC on anything that matters with a B weapon outside feint zerg situation.

As far as love halberd vs tomoe, my assessment for it is probably jaded from my overall laziness to go out and farm stones, but I do like being able to 5 hit, and I don't notice much difference in parse between them to really bother with the higher maintenance love halberd

My love halberd suggestion was in response to the idea of trying to do the waking the beast quests for a low chance at a leviathans couse, which is surely a lot more effort probably slightly worse. And I wasn't talking about using ifrit's bow for the 3 STR on polearm, not sure where you got that, it's silly to tp/ws in anything other than black talthum for polearm if you have it. I just thought the bow was a better reward for sam if someone were to actually do those fights for something.

As far as landing status arrows go, it depends what you're doing. For a lot of solo/duo stuff, nyzle, assault, salvage, limbus, etc. it's not hard to land sleep/demon arrows with a good racc build.
