Kotaku - Lunar: The Silver Star Getting PSP Remake - Lunar: The Silver Star
It's been announced in the latest Famitsu that the PlayStation Portable will be home to the latest upgraded re-release of Game Arts' classic RPG, Lunar: The Silver Star.

First released on the Sega CD all the way back in 1992, the game's already been ported and upgraded several times, for systems as diverse as the Saturn and PC. This latest version, Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star, will feature not only updated visuals, but an all-new user interface, along with new art and new music.

At the moment it's obviously only been confirmed for a Japanese release, but since most other Lunar games have been released in the West sooner or later, fans of the series can have some hope of seeing the title.

lemme read up on it and see if they're going to be any extra performace upgrades to it. would be really cool if they added a few cool extra CS's in it.

Hmm, not sure how I feel on the graphics overhaul. I feel it's going to lose some of its charm not being a simple 2d pixel-art game, and some of those larger towns are going to be a pain to navigate with all the isometric houses (in the remake) blocking your view of the roads, unless they accomodate that by changing the map layouts slightly.

No mention of changes to the voice acting, hope it stays that way.
(they better do a voice overhaul in an inevitable #2 remake though, some of the actors in Eternal Blue were grating, especially with their special attacks, AGH!)

*marks it down on his PSP calendar*

PSP list starting to finally grow now, hope it keeps growing.

I loved the Lunar series. Started on the Sega CD, loved the update on the PS1 (which was neat in SSS, in that they changed the plot ever so slightly to keep a character with you). The third game that was Saturn/Game Gear and Japanese only never interested me. The remake of SSS as Legends on the GBA was pretty bad, I couldn't really play it. Also, I look at Lunar as a game that relies on voice acting to be more entertaining.

The company I connect Lunar = awesome in my mind is Working Designs, the ones who ported it. They added fun pop culture NPC text and made amazing pack-ins with the PS1 games (maps, scarves, a freaking amulet?!). 5 different Sega CD covers for Lunar SSS...
But they are out of business.

So a graphical update on the PSP isn't too bad. Will they rerecord all the speech?

Whatever I'll buy it cause I'm a Lunar whore.

Lunar was the first game I ever saw animation playing smoothly on and I remember it so fondly. Great soundtrack, very solid save the girl story. I still prefer the Sega CD versions.

In fact, if you wanted to play Lunar or Lunar EB for Sega CD I can hook you up with the files, but I don't have the PS1 versions.

At first I was thinking WHY??? when we have waited so long for a new installment. However, I'm guessing they are testing the waters to see if the series still has legs enough for a sequel.
    Regardless, I'm buying.

I still have my copies of Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue Complete that i scored for $10 each brand new at Target back in the day.

Should have never been clearance items, they were too good but oh well.

finally that J-PSP my parents bought em as a gift will get more use.

No the characters arent all the same, the GBA one was terrible, if this is a port of the Sega CD or the PS1 version its going to be great. The GBA one was also a port of Lunar Silver Star Story (otherwise known as Lunar or Lunar 1), Lunar Eternal Blue is also known as Lunar 2 with different characters/story.

The thing that concerns me the most is how the localization would be handled. Working Designs actually put effort into the localization unlike a lot of companies, and I'm afraid that whoever picks this up will half-ass it and ruin the series (again).

If you look at the GBA version on it's own it's not a bad game, but compared to the earlier versions it's subpar. The translation is shitastic compared to earlier ones, they also made the game retardedly easy with the special abilities for the characters (yhalothar Mia's invincibility one).

Yeah thats part of what made Lunar games fun, they were actually a challenge. One thing in the GBA version (other than the eh translation) was the boots they sell in Vane that give you an extra 2 attacks? what the shit.

I agree, the bonus stuff was pure win. I still have SSS & EB somewhere and I should still have the Ghaleon puppet from preordering EB.

I'll pick this up when it comes out even though I dunno where I put my PSP.

I have the GBA one, but has anyone played this one:

I found it at BestBuy one day and picked it up. I didn't even know there was a DS one out. Haven't started it yet though so I was curious how good/bad it was.

I liked lunar series until i discovered that internet provides more anime pictures/clips to masturbate to

Then again, I only played Eternal Blue, so maybe I'm missing something fucking amazing on silver star, but considering the only reason I really played was for naked lucia CS and those endgame only bromides, I somehow doubt it.

I was excited when I heard this, until I remembered Working Designs had closed down, and that any localized version would be a bastardization of the fantastic fan service they offered back in the day.

I'll stick with Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, because it was about as good as I can hope for the game to be.
