They could always remake the Game Gear/Saturn version of Magic School Lunar - though it is always interesting to mark the changes from Sega CD to PSX to GBA to now PSP of the original.
yeah, Magic School hasn't made it to the US officially yet, has it? although I'm pretty sure Gideon Zhi over at AGTP is still working on it. but that wouldn't be official.
I actually don't know much about Magic School, I've heard good and bad things.
fuckin nice. i played the ps1 version on my psp and i still enjoyed it more than the tales remakes and star ocean remakes for the psp port itself. i cant wait till this one comes out :D
What are you talking about? Working Designs reopened up this year as a new company name. Gaijinworks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yeah but Vic Ireland hasn't done anything with it yet and I doubt he will. WD didn't have anything to do with the development of Lunar; you're thinking GameArts and Studio Alex. All WD did was localize the games. It was rumored for years and years and years that they were working on Lunar 3 and I still absolutely refuse to believe that Dragon Song is the result of all of that waiting.
Christ, this brings back memories of lurking on WD forums, lunar-net, and a whole bunch of other forums "back in the day". Not to mention the fruitless search for Lunar hentai since Vic went sue happy on anyone making Lunar hentai saying that it degraded the characters that GameArts made. It's because of these fucking games that I started looking at hentai(and started browsing 4chan) in the first place!
EDIT: I stand corrected on Gaijinworks; apparently they've translated ONE game(for DS lol) since they opened nearly 4 years ago. Clearly, the same WD tradition continues of doing things at a snail's pace.
oh, I had no idea. that's good to hear. I'm a bit wary, as they've only done one game yet, but WD was always slow as hell, so that's nothing new. I'm glad Vic Ireland is back in business at least, WD's localizations were always top-notch (controversial, maybe, but still top-notch if you liked their style, which I did).
10$ extra 'box set' announced.

Spoiler: show
Looks like its going to do a back story on the 4 hero's also, kind of a spoiler
This is the type that they need to make, dont get me wrong I love 1 and 2 but they need something fresh, thou I wouldnt mind a EB remake like this, Ronfar was a badass in that one.
Just picked it up and got through the intro. First thoughts are :(
While I liked how they did the backstory, theyre using a completly different sounding cast and music D:
The original SegaCD and remake PS both JP and NA casts were very similiar, one of the few RPGs where I really liked the NA cast. But all the voices are so different in the PSP version D: Nall for example sounds like a guy, not a girl. They also completly changed the opening song :/ I wouldnt have a problem with this if they used a new into and new melody, but since all they did was just change the lyrics, it sounds so bad.
But, thats just the initial impression, hopefully the rest will be fun. It's the only bad thing about remakes, I guess you cant please everyone in every way, but they should have left the major parts alone. I swear if they changed the boat song..
I downloaded the demo and had the exact reaction - WTF are these voices?
Then I realized I was olde, and that the chances of me loving this game as much as I did when I was younger was pretty zero-sum. I'm note sure what beating the demo unlocks in the retail game, but one things for sure: If I play this, I'm going to download it first.
ooo its out? gonna torrent this, thanks for the heads up!
I'll have to put this on hold because of FF13 and God of War 3 coming out soon.
I forgot to mention that the gdamn sound effects when a spell or ability is first about to go off makes my ears bleed.
I beat the white dragon cave, then got to the forest, and aside from my initial complaints.. nothing else to really bitch about. Good game just for the nostalgic aspect, not sure what a current gamer would make of it though.
I was interested in it until I heard all this. I think I'll stick with my Sega CD version.
They changed the mother fucking boat sing. Pissed.
Didn't notice that Wings was also changed?
I love it, the new voices are hit or miss for me; Nall's is definitely an improvement.
As for what the demo clear unlocks, it gives you a ranged weapon for Luna that sleeps the enemies which is AWESOME early on.
EDIT: I enjoy the remixed music and am glad they didn't keep it the same as the PS1 version.
Yes, I noticed, was the first thing I hated about it lol.
To me, there's no point in doing a remake if it's going to be a carbon copy of the original. Sure I can put my nostalgia glasses on and complain about everything that is different but instead I'm enjoying the changes. Sure some things aren't as good but there's plenty that is better. Hell, I'm hard pressed to say that things are worse, just different, which is fine.
I dont mind changes, as long as theyre not important thingsI always saw those two songs as very pivotal pieces. I wouldnt mind so much if it was a compeltly new animation + melody, but since all the did was just change the lyrics, it really irks me.
